  1. Found the water to be dead calm with a hint of fog. Set up in 20fow and began a southeast troll. Hit a dandy rainbow on a frog off the rigger 10 down in 9 fow. Missed a few then a coho and big brown from the same 10 fow. One on a 'rican and the other on a blue/silver rapala. Missed a screamer on the same rapala and did not have another hit the rest of the day. Wind picked up out of the NE and shut things down--big TIME. CC
  2. This week I purchased and installed a RAYMARINE Sport Pilot. I installed it in just over an hour and then sea trialed it in half that time. Today that thing held my boat on a rock solid line in 1-2' waves and wind gusting to 35 kts. Impressive. This is the unit that mounts to the steering wheel for cable steered boats. I know that it will be well worth the investment! Any questions about it are welcomed. CC
  3. The remedy to this is -- DONT TELL THE INSURANCE COMPAY WHO TOWED YOU IN. JUST SAY SOME KIND BOATER AND I DID'T GET HIS NUMBER!!!!! The real remedy on LO is for other boats to help out. BUT if you are in a contest you should not expect another contest boat to assist unless in the case of an emergency and adrift on LO when no SCA is posted is not an emergency. At Pt. Breeze the Sherrif does the towing. CC
  4. What a wild day!! That pretty much sums it up! Fishing was ok, hard to keep the lures in the water when the releases are being blown up the planerboard line at you!! Boated fish on a blue billy kboom and black and silver. Fished west between Green Harbor and Shadigee. Mixed bag -- even caught our 3rd Atlantic of the year -- a 22inch throw back. Took a beating out in the wind. CC
  5. Bill, Still a bit early for the kings on the US side. Usually we find a fair number of lake trout before the kings show up. I would set up a king program, riggers with sliders and divers. Start with black and purple with glow (NK vampires, Moonshine Bruisers, Purple thunders) on the riggers with silver orange slider on one side and a red and white honeybee on the other. Start in 60 fow and try to cover the entire column top to bottom. A 200' copper would be a good idea as well. A black and purple bomber or watermellon reef runner would be a good idea first thing in the morning on the boards as well. If the kings are there they will bite if they are still in canada you will do ok on lakers. Good luck, CC
  6. DEAD!!!! That would be the summertime answer.... the rest of the time - watching the kids - Volleyball, Football, Cheerleading, Track, Piano recitals, Musicals, concerts, Bible quizzing and running them to the practices for all of them! Then I work, hunt and farm but you'll never catch me doing any of that!! CC
  7. Nick, FYI Fishhawk included the fuse. Congrats on the nice stuff -- Call me when you get to Wilson, I'll have to come check out the new boat! CC PS. I'll buy lunch 'cuze with a new wife and boat and..............you'll be broke!!!!!
  8. Back to reality fishing today. A bumpy raod and cold open lake breeze gave the day a different feel. After several hours of fishing we finally got our first bite on a black/gold thunder stick, a dandy 9# brown. Made a circle and doubled up with a coho and a 7# brown both on b/g #11 rapala. Several HOURS later we had a hard hit on a black/gold smithwick, this fish ran twice and took out all three lines on the opposite side of the boat. Thinking it was king until it came to net, a dandy 11# brown. Ended the day with another 7 pounder on a b/s thunder stick. A very nice quartet of brown trout for a day with only 6 hits. All action in front of the glass house in 10 fow. Back to the real job until the weekend. CC
  9. Remember the Captain' Cove Sale and picnic on Sunday 4/19 from 12 pm to 4 pm. Good a time as any to stock up the tackle box and support this icon of Lake Ontario fishing.
  10. Very consistent action all day. Mostly small coho, did manage one nice brown. Fished east 8'-12' Hot lure was a black/gold #11 Rapala. Went out to 50fow to clean fish and take a look. Banged a quick triple on the boards, but only landed one of the fish. Turned out to be a 2yr old king. I wish we would have seen the other 2 fish, I have a feeling we found a pod of feeding juvenile kings. If they were there their cousins may not be far!! CC
  11. Nick, Not planning on it. It would appear that we will have what we need right here at home this year. If not I may be around. CC
  12. Once again the conditions were perfect. Flat and good color. Temps in the mid 40's. Found the Billy Baroo by Kaboom and black & purple honey bees to be hot. A few fish came on other sticks as well. One nice 11 pound brown at a bleeding shad Rapala. See the nice trout come to net on YouTube follow this link to fishing report then click on the youtube link. (tried to do it using the tools to embed in text but it did not work) http://www.salmocharters.com/index_files/SalmonFishingReport.html Click on the link within the report. Should be in HD with a big mouth capt. narrating. Roxanne is really excited at the end of the fight. Good luck on the weekend, CC
  13. I am no expert on wire but the 2 things you will have to watch out for are kinks and memory. CC
  14. Change the name --- it's only a hunk of glass or tin anyways!!! CC
  15. Headed out for a half day of fishing with 2 friends and my 9yr old. Found fish east in 8 - 15 fow. Fished 4 hours and ended up just 1 shy of the box. Good to see a mature king in the area!! Maybe there are more! Black and purple honeybees off the riggers. Straight 11 rapalas in silver, gold, rainbow, purple, copper Kaboom Bill Baroo (Took king off board in 14 fow) Here is a cell phone pic of the king: Looks like it will be a good weekend!!! CC
  16. Our prayers are with you during this difficult time. Get a Bible and read St. John chapter 14 .. it will help. CC
  17. If your boat is fiberglass, the very best way to do this is fill the hole with epoxy. Get the best stuff at the best price here: http://www.jgreer.com/ What I do - under water line - is drill an oversize hole (1/2") then gouge out a little of wood in the core around the outside of the hole put duct tape on the inside (if the hole goes thru the transom), then mix my epoxy with some filler, stuff it in the hole, let it harden, do it again if needed because the hole was not completely filled, then sand and paint with bottom paint. No gel coat needed below bottom paint. Landshark, I bought the 500, but I will still use the transducer. I will mount them both one in front on on the rear and run them at 200 and 50 khz respectively. I will get rid of the humminbird I have up there for a tru digital picture!! Sorry!! CC
  18. Congrats Ray. Good report, I can see the 6yr old takes after his old man!!! CC
  19. Drove down the 190 this morning and the upper river was 100% ice free, the lake had very few bergs on it. Turns out that the north and north east wind has blown all the ice down the lake toward Silver Creek and Dunkirk. Some ice went down the river over the weekend. It could be a year with minimal ice flow into the big O. CC
  20. BP Fill the holes with marine tex or 3M then run a bead around the perimeter of the mounting block and fasten it to the stern. West System epoxy is a wonderful thing!! CC
  21. I agree with Tom. This gets tricky when/if you have a unit with coated cable because coated cable does not count out the same as uncoated because of the diameter difference and how it lies on the spool, also coated cable does not cut the water as well as uncoated causing more blowback. If you have coated cable you have to figure out what it takes to match depths and then space your set as you wish. Using my counters, I simply run my fish hawk in 50 degree water on my deep rigger and set the other 2 at 8' intervals above it. Mup a couple and slide the other and you have it covered!!! CC
  22. Go down to the beach and cast with Moonshine glow casting spoons. You will catch fish right from shore this time of year. If you cant find Moonshines, a little cleo. CC
  23. Hero to zero Trolled point to Bald Eagle, two pops (missed both) on boards that was it. Another capt. went from the point to Green Harbor 1 fish that is over 30 miles of trolling for just 1 fish. Too much mud would be my assessment. Water temp 40.2. CC
  24. thanks LS That is a great unit, for that price I may just replace the one I have had for 4 years....I think I have the 400 it has scratches all over it because I have it mounted on the transom and it gets slimed alot. One of these and a good plotter is all a guy needs. CC
