  1. You may not get any response for a while -- I happened to see a moon rising over the Oak this afternoon!!!
  2. I just tie the wire to the swivel then hook the swivel to the eye of the weight and hook the swivel for the leader to the other side of the eye of the weight, 6-8' of line and the lure. You will (hopefully) have to get the rod out of the way when you are in to multiple hook ups, the swivel right to the weight allows you to detach the rod and stow it, I usually just throw the weight into a rod holder and the flasher on the floor under the gunnel until things are back under control. It is simple, easy and effective. CC
  3. Dave, Once that inshore water reaches the mid 50's the fish move out and bass, bait and moss move in. Even though the temp should be right the fish just are not consistent. Moving out to the deeper water and watching for some temp breaks on the surface is the thing to do. Run your divers out about 60' and 100' on setting # 3 to start and go deeper as you feel the need to. (marking fish below 40' or not catching any) One techinique that I use this time of year is to set my dipsy at 50' and loosen the drag so that every so often another foot of line comes off. When a fish hits it make a mental note of the number on the counter. Then set it at that depth on the reset and adjust the other side accordingly. Don't be afraid to put a little weight on the flat lines an oz or 2 can get a spoon into strike territory. Good Luck, CC
  4. Congrats Maverick!!
  5. Yeah, you need to go bigger, penn 330, Diawa 57, Shimano 700, or a 15 tld will work. Also Okuma makes a sweet lever drag that will hold it check out their website. My fav over the years for leadcore has been the Shimano 15 tld, sweet fast reel. Not a bad price. CC

  10. The whole idea of a thumper rod on LO is it's use as a speed indicator first and a fish catching tool second. To set it up you need wire or braid because the transmission of the action of the dogger is what you are using to see the thump in the tip of the rod. The rod is also important in the selection of the system because you need a fast action tip to communicate to you the thumping action. A slow action downrigger rod will not work well in this application. Irish seems to be talking about the other thumper. That is a thumper that thumps the bottom -- bouncing on the bottom. If this is the application any rod/line will work, but wire/braid will get to the bottom quicker than mono. Linecounters are nice for the reasons Irish stated. CC
  11. Min is 30# Mono, wire or braid CC
  12. I wish those stream fishermen would quit snagging our fish!!!
  13. Hey Yankee, Don't need to see it, you tell me if it works and if it is simple and if we/I hear what we need to we/I will use it!!! CC
  14. Jer, You should buy whatever you think is the best unit. Whatever your choice I hope that the experience you have with the system you choose is as good and as long lasting as the experience that Ray K, Liquid Plumber and I have had. Good luck. Good Fishin' Capt. Carl Ps. I know that Ray and I have logged THOUSANDS of hours on the lake in the last 6 years, I don't know LP but sounds like he is an old timer as well. TIFWIW
  15. Jeremy, You may want to try Pline floroclear in 30#, I have had good luck with this coated line. Sometimes I wonder how important the floro leader between a diver and a flasher is; with all that hardware down there will the line be the thing that frightens the fish? IDK CC
  16. The X-4 fishhawk is the way of the future but here today. Rock solid readings, long battery life and best of all non coated cable and removable probe!!! Contact A-tom-mik for price and availablility CC
  17. Like Chowder, I use 7' rods, mine are the inexpensive Shimano TDR rods in Heavy action. My thinking on the subject is that the heavy rod makes the fight easier on the fisherman, however, some guys loose fish because they do not keep up with the rod/fish. This may be elimiated by using a longer rod. CC
  18. Found thank you!!
  19. What Gill-T says: Sometimes I put shrink tubing on the twist, sometimes like when I have my dipsy trip and marry one of my coppers, I just cut, grab a swivel, through twice and twist then put it back out. My 600' copper usually is 600' for only about 2 trips, this year it is already a 580'. The stuff really is easy to work with and seems to be just as strong after you splice it as before. CC
  20. Lots of good ones out there for little coin. Shop them and buy to your budget. CC
  21. Get out the knife then the wallet for new line. Chalk it up to experience if this is the only lesson your lucky!!! ----This is one reason I use Big Game line --- Cheap Cheap Cheap!! You could always free spool with your thumb on the spool-- another lesson CC
