Savant's NBK.......

For kings, the holo green herring in "Crusher" or "Savant" sizes are very reliable spoons.......... followed closely by Natural Born Killer and Holo Blue Herring...... you won't be dissapointed.....

Wilson 4/21
Traveling Circus replied to Traveling Circus's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
both kings came on spoons.......Last hookup of the day came on flasher/fly, but that fish was lost and most likely a laker..... 60 - 120 fow, 45 to 65 down....... -
Wilson 4/21
Traveling Circus posted a topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We fished yesterday out of Wilson 12:30 – 5:30. It was pretty rough early in the trip, so we spent most of the day with planer boards and stickbaits in 8 – 12 fow. We took 4 browns, 1 coho, and a huge smallmouth in there…. Then about 3:30 the lake started laying down and we went out to 60 fow and zig zagged from 80 – 120 fow for the rest of the trip. Once we found some Niagara river water we started marking more fish, and we landed 2 kings out there……. One real nice one…… maybe 23 lbs…The other maybe 13 lbs… the color on them was just beautiful…… that purpleish, blue silver…… man I love spring kings….. -
making torpedo weights again.

It's called plasti-dip or plasti-cote...... and you can get it from HomeD or Lowes..... They look great, but the coating is kind of fragile and if you store the torpedos between outings or fish for lakers in the mud they get shiny again...... -

If you want loose singles from salmon skeins, take a hunk of the skein and place it into hot water that's between 110 and 115 F. Agitate the skein with your fingers to seperate the eggs from the membrane.... the membrane coagulates at this temperature, and the eggs can be messaged out...... as soon as their loose, get them out of the hot water and into some cold water....... then, once their cool, drain and treat them with any of the purchased cures, or one of the home recipes you can find on the web...... seperating singles from the skein is easy and effective using this method.

Weird Pike/Muskie Behavior
Traveling Circus replied to Ronix 51's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Saw a pike doing this today at Oak Orchard Creek...... He was totally oblivious to us, and within nettin' distance of the boat while under way...... -
Tank ..... it was a great night to be out..... didn't see you down there..... we spent most of the night pretty much in front...... 28+ is a great fish. bigger than anywe've done this year........ so far..... We're getting down to the end. Looking at the board, maybe we should be fishing for lakers!!! Not that there's anything wrong with that....

Fished with gokudl3 tonight from 5 til 7:45....... All spoons, we never fished SDs/flys or meat........ 2 kings around 20, 2 browns, 1 atlantic, 1 steelie, 2 shakers..... The thermocline was a very narrow band, about 50 down over 60 to 90..... we never fished deeper than 90 fow...... best picture was 70 - 80 fow.... a little W to E current, but not unmanagable... spoons that took fish were gobie patterns, coyotes, & frogs........ down speed about 2.2...... wire divers at 135 to 150, and riggers from 40 - 67 all took hits.... nice night.... tons of bait on the graph, but not many fish were marked..... but they were there.....

Fished with Doug (gokudl3) this weekend.....We fished inside last night and this morning........ Friday night, 2 matures (26 and 27 lbs), 1 shaker, 2 browns.... The kings took a SD/Fly off a wire diver & rubbermeat behind a chrome dodger 95 down. Saturday morning produced 10 browns (to 12 lbs), one really dark king (18 lbs), and 2 steelhead. One steelhead on rubbermeat, and everything else on a variety of spoons (gobies / coyotes / gators were good)........... We spent the majority of the time inside 100 fow, and were never deeper than 150..... The NNE wind was kicking in as we were leaving in the early afternoon today...... Lets hope we don't get too much of it and end up with a scrambled lake come monday......

Sandy 8/17 evening
Traveling Circus replied to JakeyBaby's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nice Report Matt...... we saw you while running in from 450 - 480...... should have stayed inside..... 2 shakers, 1 2-year old, and 1 steelie...... pretty slow for us.... -
what 3 spoons are must haves outta olcott?
Traveling Circus replied to Mark Komo's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Things to change when you're not getting bit...... more or less in this order..... 1. Speed 2. Lead (length) 3. Size (lure) 4. Color....... -
Joe ..... I think Narby's has the FB, and Captns Cove has Erie Dearie..... The vacuum packs of ED look like the strips are very thin, and the pack I got had no scales on the pennants.....?????

Deepwater fishing out of Sandy has been good to us for the past 2 trips. Riggers from 70 to 115 have taken steelies to 10 lbs and Kings to 25 lbs...... Wire divers out 260 to 310 are also taking fish...... green yecks, glo Savants, and Green or White SD's with green flies...... We've been fishing 425 to 475 fow. Except for filling the tank today, it's been big fun.....

I'm considering a 3 - 5 day backpack adventure for bears up in the Adirondacks this fall........ done plenty of BP hunting out west, and thought I should give it a try closer to home this year.... No Montana Tag ..... Anybody have experience with this, or have some advice on an area to try, or what to look for in an area? It would be the early season........ Thanks.

Not sure I'm interpreting your problem right....... but last year, my down speed display would increase with increase in boat speed up to about 2 mph on the DS, then it would read slower with increases in boat speed... I got a heavier cannonball (Changed out a 10 for a 14), and reduced the cable blowback, and that seemed to solve the problem... This year, I'm using 12 lb torpedoes and couldn't be happier with them......
