KSC....... The Wilson launch is the same..... Olcott has a beautiful launch facility, and it's only 7 miles (or so) to the E of Wilson..... If you're looking for a wonderful launching/loading experience, you'll find it in Olcott...

Short trip out of Wilson this morning. We ran 9 mi NNW and trolled N for about an hour before seeing lightning and calling it quits. It was fun while it lasted...... We boated 2 fish on 2 hits...... 1st a 23lb king hit a chartreuse Savant on a wire diver at 165 ft. 2nd an 8lb steelhead took a green Yeck, down 60 off a rigger... The king was starting to show some color.......Plenty of bait and some fish between 400 and 450. The temp probe showed 50 down 65, some current, but not so much to be troublesome..... wish we could have stayed longer.....

Hey Matt .... not sure what port you're fishing out of, but deepwater is better than shallow..... You might consider Dunkirk or Barcelona, as opposed to Buffalo...... been reading about some decent success with copper bladed harnesses.... Mike

One unfortunate guy was struck and killed in a small boat in Presque Isle Bay (Erie Pa.) back in the late 80's early 90's..... he was killed, and knocked out of the boat... and I believe divers recovered the body later in the day.....I also seem to remember that there were 2 young girls on the boat who were uninjured by the lightning bolt. The boat was within several hundred yards of a grain storage silo complex and a power plant (with stack) .... so he wasn't exactly the tallest thing around. You should do everything you can to up the odds, but lightning doesn't always follow the rules.... Once saw a Tstorm south of Rochester while walking on the Charlotte pier...... everyone on the pier had their hair standing up on end in a big sphere..... We ran for the car, but no lightning ever struck the pier area.....

Sandy Creek Shootout

Thank you to all the Sandy Creek Shootout Participants! Tonight a $100 donation was drawn from the entry fees to help sponsor a local youth to attend Camp Rushford. The donation was presented to the Northstar Sportsmans Club BOD. Northstar annually sponsors 2 Hilton/Hamlin/Greece youths to attend the week-long camp which introduces young people to camping, fishing, canoeing, and other outdoor activities...... It's a great opportunity, and a way to put a hook in the kids with respect to learning about, and enjoying the out of doors...... Thanks! Mike Check it out if you're interested......... http://www.dec.ny.gov/education/1879.html -
Sandy Creek Shootout

Rob, Keith, Scott and I met tonight to iron out last minute duties, and dry run the weigh in session...... we're all pretty psyched up for Saturday. Weather is kind of unknown depending on who's forecast you "listen to" but one thing we did arrange was to use Northstar Gun Club on Sunday IF we wind up with a blow-off day on Saturday........... So that's great news....... Here's hoping the fishing stays as hot as it's been this summer, and as hot as the air will be this weekend -

Savant Holo Green Alewives have been good for us pretty much all season...... -
We had a very nice morning out of Sandy today.... Started out looking for browns, but with temps deep we decided to fish for kings...... and we found some great fishing in 115 - 180 fow..... wire divers 270 - 300 with spinny/fly, and s/f off a 100 ft rigger worked well on decent kings and an occasional laker.... the west troll was a challenge with the wind / waves / current.... We wound up with about a dozen fish.... 4 decent kings, and the balance lakers and shakers..... big fun.

I've ordered Savants several times through their website and never had any problems. ....... I've always been very happy with the spoons and the service. There is probably some delay due to supply of the Suttons, or backorder, or something like that. I don't know alot about the Suttons, but the Savant's, Crushers, and Jake45's are great spoons with quality paint. Try an email to [email protected] with your concerns, and Tom will most likely return your email with the reason........

Would a level playing field include a rod limit too? Say 8? 8 can be a spaghetti mess in the back of my boat..... let alone 10..... or more . -
Fished out of Olcott this morning with my daughter and a friend of hers......from 8 - 11:30... we landed 3 kings and lost one steelhead..... not exactly fast and furious, but enough to keep them from falling asleep! We fished from about 120 FOW to maybe 270 between the port and the microwave. The fish were pretty spread out through the morning.... 1st one coming 70 down over 125 on a SS Gator. 2nd one 55 down SS Gator over 175, and the 3rd fish was 180 on a wire diver towing a green SD with a green glow atomic fly in 250..... The steelie hit a metalic blue/pink NK 28 slider on the 55' rod....

Silver Fox 6/12
Traveling Circus replied to Silver Fox's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
It was a very good time...... fun fishing with Hans & Keith anyway! That Silver Fox Captain is a glory hog.... check out the awards photos out if you can find any..... and he practically knocks you overboard to get to all the big fish! Scotty "Zdeno" Bensch....... -
I'm agreeing with Tim.... I fished a boat this weekend with an x4 probe and the old display and ducer.... and there was a fair amount of bounce in the downspeed number.... with the occasional nonsense number..... I don't see that on my DR..... and haven't seen it on other boats with Subtroll units..... I swore off FishHawk when I called CS to see if they could help me troubleshoot my 840....... "yes, we can help...... send us the unit and $100 and we'll tell you what's wrong".... I couldn't order a Depth Raider fast enough.

Sandy this weekend - Putting together a game plan...

Fishin Again mentioned temperature breaks......... areas where there's a quick transition from a given surface temp to water that's say 2F warmer...... usually these breaks collect debris (branches, sticks, logs, dead critters, etc.)...... so while you're trolling, look for lines of slick(smooth) water with junk in them....... This time of year the breaks can offer great planer board/stickbait fishing..... right on top.....fish both sides of the break, till you figure out where they're at, and then have at them...... Sometimes you'll have to head N through several breaks to find one with fish on it...... When you hear radio talk about fish caught at a given depth, when you get close to that depth, look for some kind of surface feature to fish...... They're usually a very important part of the puzzle... These slick lines sometimes indicate current seams too...... water moving different(faster / slower) on one side of the slick than the other....... You can watch your downspeed, or your rigger cables to help figure that out..... Don't neglect your riggers out there.....it's a great game.... have at it! -
