Was out today checking temps, along the east shore it is around 42° and up near the white light house on the south end we did fine 44° water. Not many boats out still pretty slow.

Heads up when launching a boat at Myers Point

Stopped by and checked the launch on March 17th and it appears that the stump has been removed. Lake levels are starting to come up. Now if we could only get a little warm weather. -

Does anyone know when they will start closing the locks to allow the lake level to come up? Is it weather driven or is it just a date on the calendar? -
Heads up when launching a boat at Myers Point
Fishbowl836 replied to Fishbowl836's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Rollie, you might be able to but right now I am not sure you could get your boat in the navigational channel. It is only about 2 to maybe 2 1/2 feet deep at present lake level. -
Just a heads up for everyone launching a boat out of Myers Point on Cayuga Lake. Currently the lake level is low enough you can see a log that is located in the middle of the channel. This log is currently visible because the lake level is low but in about two or three weeks it will not be and the log will still be in place. It is big enough and right in the middle of the channel that it could very easily be hit and do some serious damage going out or coming in from the lake. A good land mark for the log is it is located adjacent to the first light pole located on the north side of the channel as you are going out into the lake. Hopefully this helps everyone and it will be removed soon, but if not be very careful navigating the channel.

Started fishing with Lead Core last year with some success late in the season. This year I am going to run it starting in the spring trying different setups (2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 color using in – line Church Boards). So could you please give me your opinions on the following lead core setups? As always thank you for your time and input. What pound test and what length leads do you run at the end of the lead core? Currently running 50 feet of 12 Lbs. Big Game. Mono or Fluorocarbon? #10 Spro or what knot to connect lead core to backing which is braid or lead core to lead? I am assuming the length of the lead will change lure action. What length lead do you use and why? How do you connect these setups to your in – line boards? Currently modified my two TX-44 boards per the “Bloodrun†suggestion and connect the backing (braid) to the board by twisting the braid on the stainless steel pin. Have four new Walleye Boards to use this year. Does anyone know if these boards can be modified the same way as the TX-44 boards? Remember the Walleye Boards are not switchable. The plastic pin that I would replace with stainless steel only connects at the top of the board. If not do you use the “Lock Jaw, new mini Lock Jaw or rubber bands to connect the in-line boards? Thank you.

Time to remove the old and reload new line on my trolling reels. Where is the best place to purchase bulk spools (1500 or 3300 yds.) of braided line and does anyone have a specific line they recommend when using it for backing material? Thank you.

Everyone, you should find a topic dated around 7/23/2015 - B & B fall fishing tournaments. It should have a PDF with the entry form. Yes the dates are September 12th and 13th. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Slouiscar Started trolling myself about two years ago and I feel your pain. I went through a lot of the same learning curve that you are going through. One thing is for sure this site is great and the majority of the people on this site are really helpful and know what they're talking about. I also have used the videos from the fish doctor website that quality time is talking about. That knot works really well on all of my wire divers and it is the only knot I use. Another good website to look into is called the Great Lakes Angler Magazine. It is very similar to this site except it is just geared toward the Great Lakes. Between these two sites you can get a lot of good advice that will help speed up the learning curve. Just remember there is no dumb questions and before you know it things will get a little better. Fishbowl836 replied to Fishbowl836's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Lavarock, Sorry it has been so long since I have gotten back to you but I have been very busy. Spoke with the person in charge of the Perch derby and here are the answers to your questions. The payout for the event will be based on the number of entries and there is no kids division. If you have any other questions or concerns please call the number at the tackle shop on the entry form. Thank you. -
Attached are two PDF documents for the Perch Tournament and B & B Fall Fishing Tournament on Cayuga Lake. The Perch derby is August 8th and 9th and the B & B Fall Fishing Tournament dates are September 12th and 13th. Please direct any questions or concerns to B & B bait shop located at Myers Point. Thank you for your support. Perch Derby Entry Form.pdf B & B Fall Trout and Bass Derby Entry Form.pdf

In-line boards for Lead Core?
Fishbowl836 posted a topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Just starting to use lead core this year. Has anyone had any luck running 2, 3, or 4 color lead core off the Off-Shore in line boards? Being new I like the visual I get using these boards because the flag moves down when something is wrong or a fish hits the lure. I have been told that these boards will not work and I will need to change to the TX-44 orange walleye boards. However these boards do not have a moveable flag system like the Off-Shore boards. Has anyone ever tried to modify the TX-44 board to make it moveable like the Off-Shore boards? Thank you for your time. -
Bimini Top Type and Placement
Fishbowl836 posted a topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I am looking to install a bimini top on my 2004 Smoker Craft Pro Mag 168 Tiller. Last year it was just too hot out during the late morning and afternoon sun trolling on the Finger Lakes. Anyone out there have any suggestion on the type of top I should buy, height of the top 46†or 54†and how or where should I install it to not interfere with the fish ability of the boat? I currently have two Bert’s rod holders per side mounted in the back area of the boat that I use along with down riggers on both corners in the back. These items were put in these locations because it is a tiller model and for the most part I am fishing by myself. Any suggestion based on previous experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. -
If you only have one day to go to the show, which day would you go? Was thinking about going Friday because it would not be as crowded, however somewhat interested in the marketplace on Sunday. What do you think? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Just started using Spin Doctors and trolling flies about a month ago and I must say “Why did I wait so longâ€. Attached is a photo of two types of trolling flies that I have been using. Last night I was looking over a couple of flies and I noticed that the leaders are starting to get a few rough spots in the leader materials and I think I need to replace them. The Dreamweaver Strong Fly shown to the left in the photo will be easy to replace because it is just a straight piece of fluorocarbon material to the treble hook however, the other fly (A-TOM-MIK) is connected to two hooks. Does anyone know if someone has done a video of how to tie the A-TOM-MIK rig so they are back to the original configuration or can someone explain it to me so I can fix these flies? Also, what is the benefit of the A-TOM-MIK fly rig with two hooks over the single treble hook used by the Dreamweaver Strong Fly? Both flies have worked very well for me just wondering why the difference and how to fix these leaders? Thank you for your time.

Forgot to mention the dipsey setting was a zero. My thinking was that this setting would be very close to running a downrigger directly behind the boat. So yes the setup that I was running was two wire dipseys off one side set to 0 and the other one set to a 2. During the weekend when I was fishing with the boss I ran two braid dipseys off the other side set to a setting of 1 and the other one set to 3. Sorry I forgot to state that important fact.

Question for all of you that have been doing this a lot longer than I have. I have been running wire dipsey for the last three weeks doing very well on the Finger Lake using both spoons and Spin Doctor/Fly combos. But for the last moth I cannot get a rigger to fire at any depth. Yesterday I had a dipsey firing with a doctor/fly combo every time I put it down to 85 feet. Down it goes and 5 to 10 minutes later fish on. So I decide to take the complete rig off the dipsey and put it on the rigger down to the same depth and the rigger would not fire. Why? Any ideas? I just don’t understand why the same rig at the same level as the dipsey and it won’t fire. I was also using a black dipsey thinking the silver one was attracting the fish in to the rig. Boat speed was the same as when using the dipsey. Downrigger weight are also black. Just don’t understand what would be different from one setup to another. I also tired letting the rigger down another 10 to 15 feet thinking the blow back in the rigger might be the problem. Still not firing. Any ideas would be appreciated. Still learning a lot.

Port Bay 8-9 am
Fishbowl836 replied to bbolger's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Good evening everyone, looking to get up on the big lake for salmon and trout in the next month or so. This area is the closest for me to have access to the big lake. I have a 16 foot tiller smoker-craft and this area over to Fairhaven is a place that I would like to learn for fishing in the fall and spring. Would anyone be willing to share some information about starting points and setups (downriggers, leadcore or dipsey). I have spent the last two years learning to fish my home waters on the Finger Lakes and still have a long way to go. I am willing to pay my dues and learn this area but I am somewhat concerned about how far out you have to go to find fish this time of year using a small boat. Safety – I love to fish but no fish is worth losing your life. Any help with starting points, how far out, what to use, what winds to look out for or winds that are favorable and time of year would be greatly appreciated.
