  2. Anyone got any input on running slide divers on wire dipsies rods? I have been running wire dipsy this year for the first time using the original Lure Jensen dipsy divers and now I want to give the Slide Diver Lite Bite a try. So how do you setup these divers to run with wire? Thank you for your help.
  3. Made a quick trip yesterday morning to try fishing the AES area on Cayuga Lake. Launched at Myers Point and headed north at 7:30. Fished the area in front of AES working from 80 to 200 FOW. Not much for bait in the area but I did pick up 5 Atlantics all around 20 – 23 inches long. Three of the fish were on dipsies set on setting 3 either 150 or 175 out. The other two fish were on downriggers set 50 feet down. One fish had a lamprey on it and did have a few fleas on the rigs once in a while. All fish caught on UV Michigan Stinger spoons running at 2.2 to 2.6 and all fish released to fight another day. Wayne
  4. Yes you are correct. My bad i meant to say fixed sliders sorry everyone. Still trying to learn everything and trying to keep it all straight. Wayne
  5. Well, made my first trip to Deans Cover. A slow start to what was a beautiful morning after the fog cleared. I only had about three and half hours of fishing time and lost probably a good hour working close to shore because I was new to the area and the fog was thick. After the fog cleared I moved out to 60 - 80 FOW. Setup was two riggers each with stacker running Michigan Stingers. Ran spoons back 25 feet off the ball and all stackers were 5 feet long, 10 feet above the bottom spoon that was off the ball. Marked a lot of fish from 20 to 50 feet down and also marked a lot of bait from top to bottom both north and south of the launch area. Caught my first three salmon all off the stackers using a UV Gator spoon. Why did all of the fish come of the stacker? This is my first time using stackers. After the third fish, I switched the spoons on the stacker. The UV Gator went on the ball and I moved the UV Black Tuxedo up on the stacker. Down we go to the same depth, 50 at the ball and around 40 on the stacker. It was not 10 minutes and the stacker goes off for fish number four. Again why only the stacker? With only about 30 minutes left before I needed to head back in, I ran out a dipsey with a UV Purple Tuxedo on setting 3, 85 feet out and caught one more salmon before heading in for the day. All and all a good morning with not a lot of fish but I did get to try something new using the stackers and I did spend some time working a third rod using Torpedo Divers (Snapper and Shark). Also before I forget no fleas yet even with the surface water temperature of 66 to 68 deg. If anyone has an idea about my above stacker question, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thank you. Wayne
  6. I am looking to get some information on fishing Seneca Lake this Friday. I have been trolling Cayuga Lake hard for the last three weeks and I am not doing very well. It is probably something I am doing but I am so frustrated that I need to try something different. I usually fly fish the south end around the dish charge at clute park for salmon and browns in the early spring but have never been trolling on the lake before. My plan is to use the same program that I used in the spring on Cayuga Lake. In-Line boards with sticks and spoons off the riggers. I am assuming the water is a little cooler then Cayuga and the fish should be in the 10 to 30 FOW. I am thinking about going out of Lodi Point and fishing the north and south of the point around the launch area. Or should I launch down on the south end of the lake and fish that area? This is going to be one of those pay your dues type trips which I don’t mind doing I just would like some help getting started. Thanks in advance for all your help. Fishbowl836
  7. Can you use a Spro swivel to connect braid and mono? I am using a size 10 swivel. I know it will go through the guides on the rod but my concern is having the swivel on the reel. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Has anyone seen any alewives on the surface yet? When I have been out fishing for the last month I have been seeing alot of bait around 120 - 160 feet down but I have not seen any birds working or bait on the surface yet. Did I miss it ? Any comments?
  9. Just got a new I-phone and I was wondering what Apps are you guys using when fishing. I was thinking about using them to log fishing trip info along with catch log. Does any use the Fishidy.com site or the App? Thank you for your input.
  10. What website or Apps related to wind/weather forecast do you use for planning your fishing trips to Lake Ontario or the Finger Lakes? Currently I am using the sailflow App for wind direction planning and sometimes it is not correct. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
  11. What website or apps do you use to obtain weather and wind information for planning purposes when fishing the Finger Lakes or Lake Ontario? I have been using the Sailflow app for the last year or so and at times it seems like it is off in some of its prediction for wind direction and speed. Any suggestion? Thank you.
  12. Looking for some clarification on filling my Magda Pro DX Line Counter Reels with braided fishing line. My plan is to fill two MA-20DX with approximately 300 yards of 50 lbs. Power Pro and the MA-30DX reels with approximately 600 yards of 50 lbs. Power Pro. Does this seem correct? I am using an excel spreadsheet called “reel_fill_calculator†that I found on the internet and based on that spreadsheet this should get me to approximately 87% capacity. I am planning on putting black tape on the spool and then mount the braid next. Should I be using some type of other backing and if so what? Also the idea of using 50 Lbs. was so I would not have problems with the fleas this summer. Is this correct? Also with the capacity only at 87% does that mean the line counter will be off? If so, how should I re-calibrate the line counters or is it a matter of loading the reels to 100% capacity? Other questions, does it hurt to use braid when flat lining? Most of my fishing will be done using dipseys so that is the main reason for loading the braid. Some time down the road maybe this summer I may load two reels with wire and play around with that but for now I am just starting out so my plan is to run braid. Any help would be appreciated?
  13. Has anyone ever had success mounting the Bert’s Track System directly to the gunnels of a boat? My boat has a narrow gunnel which is approximately 2†wide and I was thinking about mounting the track directly to the gunnels. Does anybody have ideas or suggestions that have worked for you? Thank you for your time.
  14. Is anyone using the 18†Cannon Pedestal Mounting Track system? My plan is to use this track system to hold 3 ratcheting rod holders to be used when running dipsey diver. My concern is this track system is raised up on a 3†pedestal in the center of the 18†of track. Will three mag dipseys be too much torque on this center 3†raised pedestal? Plan is to mount this in a six track so it can be removed when not being used. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

  16. I am looking for everyone’s input/feedback on the best in-line charger for my boat. What charger would you recommend and what were the pros and cons’ including everything from cost, installation, speed of charge, and most of all is it still working today. Unit will need to be a two bank charger and will be installed in the front of the boat therefore I will need to run extensions to the starting battery in the back of the boat. Other question is, does the unit get hot and do they need ventilation? My plan is to install the unit in a cabinet area next to the deep cycle battery and then plug it in every night when I come back home and then unplug and go the next morning. Also can you recommend the best place to purchase the unit? In advance, thank you for your time. Is spring coming?

  21. My question is about early spring time fishing for trout and salmon on the Finger Lakes. A little back ground first, the boat I am using is a 2004 Smoker Craft 169 tiller with a 4 stroke 25 Yamaha. Started fishing late last spring so much of the fishing was done down in the water column using dipsey drivers and other similar divers to get my spoons down to the fish. For my first year I think we did pretty well considering Cayuga Lake is in bad shape and we did not get over to Seneca Lake as much as I wanted. All fishing was done with braid using the charts to determine what setting and how much line to let out to get to the correct depth. So I am really itching to start back up this spring. So back to the question, taking into consideration the type of boat that I have and that I am generally fishing by myself, should I go with a center mast and boards or do I go with smaller boards on each rod like the walleye guys seem to do so well with? If I go that route what size rods do I need to use? One of the things I really did not like last year was the need to use such a big dipsey to get down to the fish therefore using a much larger rod and then not feeling the fish. I really want to keep this a sport as I release almost everything I caught. What about running stick baits in the spring or tandem streamers. What about any shows / seminars coming up that might help also? I don’t mind paying my dues and spending the time as when am on the water it is so unbelievable. I just would like to get started in the right direction as soon as the weather breaks this spring (now ha ha ha ha!!!!). Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first post so if it helps to provide me some information you can PM me. Thanks Again.
