  4. Interesting that you mention that. I have gotten redfish or channel bass or the same as red drum from the Atlantic. Those have the jewelry in their head as well. Two perfectly formed pieces like ivory in a fluid pocket. Polished they make nice pieces. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  5. That's a good deal, hope they have the needle kit too. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

  9. I looked for c 16 and found it came in high yardage spools for some big bucks which would be good for a reel fill and 80 lb has 18 lb mono diameter, not bad. I found power pro hollow ace comes in a 100 yd spool in 80 lb test. Reasonable price and rigging kit cost break from http://www.tackledirect.com/powerpro-ho ... spool.html I want to try loop end connection hollow ace to solid core braid backing ...finger trap the copper and serve the beginning of the copper. Then the terminal end of the copper ...finger trap it and the butt end of the flouro leader in a wind on style connection like your video shows. A rather inexpensive complete reel fill versus a full hollow core backing, but does require another served connection. Now to make one of these connections, in case of failure, on a smaller open boat in the water, could be a challenge. A clamp on jig for serving might work. The skippers with big boat cabins should have an advantage there. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  10. Man, you got some real challenges fishing out there in Cali Stan!!!...fishing for kings 250 feet down, catching birds, getting tangles beyond FUBAR!...I have had pelican caught on my bunker being tossed to the surf, those are not fun ....last ice season I was out on Hemlock and watched a Bald Eagle come down and steal a guys trout sitting on the ice . Cool pics of a bird we don't have here...but I ride in an Aquasport OSPREY ....Thanks for sharing Stan! Mark
  11. no email address gee I wonder ....yes I would desecrate their sponsored sites. 1 thing about a transom it's really easy to change brands. without good customer support they just became the worst outboard on the market .,,,and I am an owner and 1 of 8000 viewers this forum . dealers have got to be wondering about their future , without corporate support . yes I would definitely hit their sponsored sites and reference this thread . 13. Thanks Chris and Mike! This was exactly what I was looking for ...excellent video!..I will give this technique a go and I feel it will end the problem of knots and the weak link. It is very frustrating to get a good albright to be strong and I have painstakingly tied them dozens of times before finally getting a knot that I "THINK" will hold. Lost a very stout king last year due to the albright letting go. I have tried for hours to get a better version of albright to work but either the knot was too big or it failed. Thanks again everyone for the great info!...Mike if I have any issues or questions I'll take your offer and ask you. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  14. In my travels, I will try to seek out some hollow braid and a needle kit. Sometimes I get near the ocean where I probably would find more chance at getting a sample to try. Thanks Mark for the reply, and the links. They are interesting and informative. Tight lines Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

  16. I know It's tough when your regular fishing buds get life issues and have to change a bit. I have a similar problem with my kids. They grew up and got lives going and jobs that give no time, and they live over 200 miles away. They fished the derby with me for years and so now I am prospecting for new hardy fishermen or women to sign up. Got some but one has back surgery from last fall, another is fair weather, one likes to shore fish (phobia about boats and big water I think), and one who would be the best of all with time and the hardy adventure spirit.....but he hasn't returned my call yet... I'm sure there is someone on here that shore fishes and has been wanting to get on a boat, plenty of good guys on here. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  17. I know there has been some debate on the longevity of tires and the date coding on the side walls but if the tires are stored in the shop at the dealer I myself would not be to concerned. Marathon tires are probably the the best speed rated tire going. Sustained interstate speeds are the most important factor especially for a 13 inch tire. Carlisle is also a good tire, I have experience with both those Good Year and Carlisle tires. I know Kumho makes good tires, just never tried their trailer tires. I would stay away from the loadstars. Bad wear patterns on two I have had and in short order too! I would not trust the loadstars to handle interstate speeds, in my opinion. 18. EZ steer works good, but as in a previous post, keep the clamps tight. Mine has been repaired once where the arm that attaches the adjustable bar broke away from the plate that secures with the clamps to the engine. Was my own negligence for that. Mounting is easy. Keep the bar near horizontal without too much tip with engines down or up. The bar has adjustment screws with detents in it, the instructions are pretty good for setting that, and I believe the setting is 22 lbs to have the bar stretch to its best alignment for both motors. I set mine with a bathroom scale. Then to align your motors for trolling simply steer the main engine hard right or left depending on the side you kicker is on and in doing so you extend the detent tube on the bar to the desired alignment. The detents will hold the bar in place under normal steering when trolling. Sometimes a little tweaking on the adjustments are all that are needed to get it just right. Quick disconnect is handy for removal if that is needed. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  19. So there is this new power pro braid line out now that is hollow weaved strands of fiber. The stuff has the ability to grab (like a finger trap) a leader or possibly backing without a knot. I'm thinking this would be great for running flouro off copper or backing to copper and having the smooth transition between the two without the obtrusive knot catching a guide on reel or rod. It might also be the end of the weaker point of having a knot or spro connection. The line seems no more pricey than regular braid, but the rigging kit is like 95 bucks, and you have to insert 4 feet of leader into the hollow braid. I might try to ask someone who is familiar with It's use and see what they think of a wire connection to the hollow ace braid. Any thoughts? http://www.powerpro.com/publish/content ... w_ace.html http://www.tackletour.com/reviewbigrock10lines.html Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

  23. Good job Jason and Anna! That's the way to get dads equipment in the water, especially when ya reel that stuff in there is a fish on the other end! Looking forward to doing some derby fishin together with you guys when I get home. Great post Mick Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
  24. Nice catch guys, Johnson creek area has been good for Atlantic catches early in the season. Had a 16 lb last year from there. Mark [ Post made via Mobile Device ] [ Post made via Mobile Device ]
