  4. Look for the seagulls coming to peck out the fishes eyes...then you know where it is
  5. Well see, now if yer in the Oval Office ...ya can do anything ya want...but that doesn't mean it makes sense or works very well ....imagine if they ever filled it up where they could run more than 10 minutes at WOT. the best speed they could get would be at the last 1 minute after weight reduction ....cripes what is the beam on that thing. Here...how bout narrow beam and 1750HP...
  6. I have a live well with recirculating lake water going in it from the pump. I almost always have it filled before hand at least quarter to half full and if a fish will not "come to" I have it in the live well with the water filling and dumping from the pump. After a while the fish will be swimming around in the circular shape of the well and then all I do is lift him out and put him back in the lake. Always swim away. I suppose you could make due with the cooler and use a bilge pump or raw water wash down to do the same. Leave the plug out of the cooler and let it replenish. Mark
  7. I'm just out here puttin around in my little fishin boat..2.5 mph...poles bent over the back of the boat..mindin my own business...and ....I'm from the USA...hey does that Zodiac do 105mph in 4 to 6 ft seas guys? wanna do some chase practice and No you can't use the radio:lol:.....OH WAIT.... I gotta finish puttin gas in this thing, see..can we do this tomorrow? Maybe I'll find enough friends to help with the expense and be done by then...Ok
  8. Great report Tim, Now if I can quit trolling the roads and get back on the water Mark

  10. Tim, you have a PM, Thanks Mark
  11. Well I was gonna mention Sears but see you already did that one...LT means light truck application...load range E is very heavy load carrying capacity.
  12. Stan,,,STOP!....no lap dancing here. Now get off the top of the lap and find those pics and get them developed right away,,,we, Tom ,,,and I are ,,,WAITING Mark
  13. Check this out, and don't forget to read some of posts about the great lakes studies. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... CDEQ9QEwBg Tehachapi turbines....just a few of thousands there
  14. Took these images from my truck on I-65 in Indiana. This is a MONSTER of a field of these things. Imagine now, that there is no farmers fields under these wind mills and there is the beauty of the lake under there......silently running ..... no sounds of boats..... lots of lakefront property for sale CHEAP.....No $20 million per year plus in tourism coming in from the attraction of the lake. .........YUCK!!!! Soon maybe I will be able to post pics of the ones that California has that have been around for about 15- 20 years along the Tehachapi Mountain pass on rte 58 coming out of the Mohave desert. A lot of those are decrepit pieces of junk...tipped over, twisted rusting and just plain sick looking. Mark
  15. That is some GROSS weather Stan. I saw the circle of storms going around that area on the radar, looked like a hurricane with an eye of the storm. Great pics dude! I am headed for Cali right now, but am in Utah and going to LA then Merced. If I was able I'd come fish with ya, but this travel agent I have is sending us to Reno to pickup Sun morn and go back to KC and Milwaukee for tues. Looked like some fun anyway there Stan Now get some of that rare scotch and warm up my friend
  16. Jerry, actually the fish took a good run away from the boat but never really surfaced. Lois was reeling the fish and she thought for a while that the fish was off because of the slack on the line and she was not cranking with a lot of speed. (penn 209) slowwww. but I had her reel as fast as she could and sped the boat up a mph to help cause I had a sneaky suspicion that the fish was charging towards us suddenly. Sure enough the fish almost landed itself. It really came fast to the side of the boat, but after netting it, the fish really became active, thrashing all over and knocking stuff out of the racks under the gunnels etc. So it was a quick battle without a lot of runs. It did however stay mostly in the top water as you mentioned. Thanks for the great article by the way, I cloned it earlier in this thread for help in better identifying the species. Mark Ray thinks this is a secret Pro Am thread....just watch out for the buffy guy carrying around ole bugle lips, the carp.I hate to think about the combination of that
  17. Thanks fhf, that is a very nice fish as well. They are all nice!!! Paul I really wanted her to mount the fish, and I called you for the details but she wasn't in the market for it. Thanks for the reply, maybe next time. Ray, try weighing in your carp this weekend ....fish ID cards are a real plus for the tourny ....and I don't want to hear of anybody's goat on the trunk of yer car during deer season neither. OMGanothershortfatbaldone....huh?
  18. John, Are you trying to co-phase two antennas to one radio? Or using two radios on different frequencies with separate antennas? I will assume two radios to monitor and transmit on two separate antennae on different channels. If that is the case you may have some cross channel bleed over especially on 25 watt settings. Try to keep them as far apart as possible if that happens or you can try to angle the tips away from each other which will affect the DB gain or distance somewhat if not truly vertical to horizon. Also you may try to differ the tip heights from each antenna. If you only have 3.5 to 4 feet temporarily mount the antennae to check the performance, if it bleeds then you need more space between them somehow. What I have is a hand held and a fixed radio that don't really have the same "plane" of antenna transmit and those work together OK. I have been a trucker for 33 years and co-phasing to one radio on AM band has always improved the forward and backward signal on a large vehicle for maximum gain front and back on the same road. Also it does away with shadowing from the large metal vertical surfaces that a truck has. Co-phasing requires a different cable RG# and then there is the signal to wave ratio to tune with a meter for optimum power output to the antenna. But that is all based on an AM band. I'm not sure how a co-phase would work for VHF but can't imagine it being much different. Mark
  19. More pics from Lois's camera phone of the "Atlantic"......CLICK TWICE FOR FULL RESOLUTION!!!! Mark Forked tail Good sunlight
  20. The condition you are running into is putting the trailer too deep in the ramp and can be caused by an extremely steep ramp as well, however you said that was not the case. The front bunks should be just sticking out of the water when you back in to pick up the boat. If the FRONT bunks are "set" meaning, they are positioned by the boat after you launch when the boat comes off the trailer on it's own without backup power and they do not tip up or down,,,, then it should slide up on the trailer front bunks and the pulpit should be on it's way up over the winch on the trailer with a little power from the drive on the boat using the same ramp you launched from. It will take a little experimentation to get the combination just right. but I always have to winch the boat the rest of the way to the bow catch,,,,which is what I do after out of the ramp while the bunks are still wet. You can hook the safety chain if there is the fear of the boat backing off the trailer when pulling out but it will generally be just for a more confident feeling as I have never experienced a boat sliding back coming out of the ramp. Mark
  21. I like the tip up feature on the Scotty. I have the stop beads set right where the ball comes to the hook on the 5 foot boom when I lift the boom. I just catch it in my hand hook it to the J hook and then it is ready for the line to be placed in the Scotty release. Then unhook and swing the boom up a little and back down to settle the ball back in the water just below the surface. My stop beads are set so that the balls stay below the surface and under control when the water is rough. It depends on the height above the water from the boom to do this but on my boat the ball stays about 2 feet below the surface and that swings right to the hook on the boom when tipping up. Only thing I don't like so much is the angle of the rod holders and there is no adjustment horizontally for that, but you can swivel the holders in any direction you want and lock that in place. Mine were used... I don't know how long, but they have been good to me for three seasons now. Low draw on the battery too. no need for GIANT fuses to run them. ...and so what if they look to some folks (or one folk) like a toy plastic lawn mower. I still have that too and it has all it's wheels and makes colored popping corn balls in the little plastic dome on top Mark
  22. Thanks everyone for your inputs here. I think this has been a great way to help in identifying the correct species. It should be beneficial to those who have not seen an Atlantic and have trouble identifying them from the brown trout. After all, no one wants to get a surprise back at the dock with 3 brown trout 15 to 24 inches long and find out from Mr. DEC officer otherwise that they are in possession of under size Atlantics and too many of them...OUCH!!!! in the wallet a
  23. I heard .......here's your solution......get a piece of wire, kink the end a little and poke it into the offending insect jam and clear the pee hole....now check for water stream coming out ....
  24. Ok, it is clear that there is the possibility that one statement given in the article link posted above is absolutely true and that is................."It's a gorgeous fish and there are probably more Atlantics being caught. Guys that don't know are calling them brown trout. They have similar (black) spots; the difference is the Atlantics have the forked tail."................and........."It was certainly an unusual year," DEC aquatic biologist Jana Lantry said. "And if all the Atlantics were properly identified the catch rate would actually be higher than what we were able to calculate." None the less as FHF said, "It is an amazing fish", and I am glad to have witnessed it being caught by a good friend. I have some reservations on harvesting this species from this point on. I believe they need every chance to get a stronghold on the fishery so that they are as plentiful as the other salmonids that abound in our Lake Ontario. They are somewhat endangered in the Atlantic Ocean and seem mostly to be frequenting the fresh waters of Maine for spawning as a wild salmon. Recent findings have indicated that they may be entering the Hudson River as well. Size and creel in Lake O are probably set right for them at one fish 25 inches minimum. These fish do return to spawn many years in succession as do the steelhead. They can live up to 10 years and attain a great size. Mark
