  1. Well I was looking for some scrutiny here, but not for the difference between a brown and atlantic salmon. I have caught hundreds of browns and they do not look like this fish. Browns have many densely populated spots that are round in shape. Atlantics have sparsely populated spots that are irregular in shape, X's and Y's. Also the brown trout has more of its spots below the lateral line and Atlantic has few below it. The brown trout has a much larger mouth. Also this fish ended up being table fare since the lady who caught the fish was not in the market for a mount....so as I was filleting the fish I noted the color of the flesh being pink. Browns have almost always been very Orange in flesh color. Article in D&C on Atlantic comeback http://www.democratandchronicle.com/art ... ke-Ontario OUR OWN JERRY FELLUCA he knows what they look like...a big fish in his box From Lake O this is an Atlantic which is this which is this one one side on the boat other side on the boat....the fish....Lois is not the fish I am sure it is the Atlantic Salmon. No more 1% doubt
  2. Yup, had that happen to my little 9.9.....stinkin insects
  3. Love my troll master. It is very easy to install...at least on a Yamaha 9.9 like mine. Very accurate speed control. The company is great too. I had a servo go bad that controls the throttle and they sent me a new one after a whole year absolutely free and overnite shipping NO charge Been using mine for three seasons and wouldn't have anything else. 4. RAY!!!!!!!! argggghhhhhhh......
  5. Thanks Rick, I will consider those.
  6. I've never gotten a fish mounted, so I guess it could still be done as a replica. I have it on ice still, and can have better measurements taken yet. Just not sure of what it takes to mount a fish. I'll have to try calling around and see. If anyone has a suggestion near Point Breeze, let me know. Thanks, Mark
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/31 Time on Water:9AM-12NOON Weather/Temp:SUNNY WARM Wind Speed/Direction:8-10 MPH EAST/NE Waves: 1-2 BUILDING TO 2-3 Surface Temp: 65.6 Location:SHADAGEE LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 1 Total Boated:1 Species Breakdown:ATLANTIC Hot Lure: DREAMWEAVER SS NBK Trolling Speed: 2.6 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 70 Lure Depth: 45 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Well....I thought I wasn't going to fish today since Chris and his G/F Erin were worn out from yesterdays hot sun. They did get toasted pretty good so I wasn't gonna pressure them to get out there today.....but....I hadn't counted on Lois. Lois is Cher's friend and... well mine too, and she loves to fish. So we hadn't heard from her if she was going to actually go today, but when the door of the bedroom flew open and she wanted to know why the skipper was still in the sack at 6am and not getting the boat in the water, well heck let's go for it. So off to Point Breeze we go. Ran down to Shadagee to see if there was still a good picture and man was there a picture. Bait and fish all over the screen and good color being pushed on shore by the N/E wind. Along the way we noticed a lot of fish in the 40 to 70 FOW range, so we set up about mid way from Johnson's to Shadagee. Two riggers and two dipsy program. Wasn't long before the starboard rigger fires off and Lois hollers "FISH ON" ...wow that was loud and there she goes after it. She reels the fish to the side of the boat and I am shocked...man is that an atlantic? Well after it is on the deck I am 99% sure it is after all the posts on here of atlantics with pictures. I have never seen one in person as of yet so this is a first for this guy. Weighed on my hand scale a shade over 16lbs and measured 30.5 inches. Muttered to myself.."might be a coho but I don't think so with the small head and white mouth". The scales are thick and staying on the fish, the markings are x's.....sooo..I took many pics and they are here for scrutiny. They are from my cell camera and the framing is not good but they are clear. Lois may be able to send me pics from her camera later too. Was the only hit and fish of the day but it was a nice 3 hour tour anyway. Mainly.... Lois was happy and that made the day for me. 9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/30 Time on Water:7AM-5PM Weather/Temp:VERY NICE...HOT SUN Wind Speed/Direction:SLIGHT WEST Waves:RIPPLE Surface Temp: 63.5-66.8 Location:PUMP HOUSE TO SHADAGEE LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:1 LAKER,2 KINGS, 2 STEELHEAD Hot Lure: Trolling Speed: 2.6 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 175-275 Lure Depth: 32, 105, 140, AND EVERYTHING BETWEEN ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Took my son and his G/F out of port west to the pumphouse and set up trolling west. Ran a program of 3 downriggers and a down and out off one, and two braid dipsies. First hit of the day was on the corner rigger running a DW SS NBK off the ball down 32. A laker was the first to throw the skunk off the boat somewhere near Johnson's Creek...was beginning to wonder when, as the radio was saying it was rather slooooowww out there, and it was. Kept moving west and deeper as we went, found some good breaks and color in the water, and finally the screen lights up with good marks down deep off Shadagee. Quickly set the deep rigger from 80 down to 105 and three minutes later it's off and running. A king comes to the deck hanging onto a Hammer fly lead by a green dot pro troll flasher. Not big but a king and some more down there too. hit the waypoint again and the down and out off the port corner rigger takes off. This was a nice steelhead about 8 lbs that went for the green halogram NK28 lead by a #3 dipsy on a 3 setting back 50 feet and stacked 20 feet above the ball. High sun now and everything slowed even more. We ran around and set riggers from 65 feet to 140 feet and watched as the screen had fish at all those depths. Only 1 more little shaker that just fell off the stocking truck came 66 down on a stinger 42 second spoon, and an under size steelhead on the SS NBK came in the afternoon. Most fish were ball shy and ran away from them, heading for bottom. Lots of bait on the bottom everywhere. Mark ==================== Erin with a nice steely, her first time fishing....not bad It's still wearing diapers, change em and put him back
  10. wow Stan....Kings at 270 ft?...that's crazy amazing....hmmm wonder what the blowback is at that depth. Mark

  13. AW shucks .....a day late ....oh well does it matter after a whole year more on the pile...um...well not till yer really old Mark
  14. I have 4 across the back of my 8.5 ft beam and I find myself not using all four at one time 95% of the time when enough people are aboard. There is just not room enough to put all 4 in over 40 ft deep....UNLESS...it is very calm water. The weights can tangle and there is the potential for a snafu of terminal tackle in deep cross currents. I think you would do fine with just one more rigger down the chute where you can angle it a little to inboard side of kicker and extend far enough off the back so that a swinging ball does not crash the boat or the motor. However I have run three riggers deep and the fourth inboard rigger shallow (under 20 ft deep) and use a 0 setting dipsey hooked to the release on the ball to achieve the "tailgunner set" straight back and out 120 or more. This keeps the fourth ball shallow and the added pull of the dipsey "drags" the ball back a little away from the other sets for less chance of a tangle. Keep in mind sometimes less is more, especially when there is the concern for tangles and then there is the scare factor to the fish when they see/hear all those cables buzzing by. consider if you really need to run more than 5 or 6 lines when the fish are jumping on everything out. And as far as stealth goes in my opinion you can't beat far and wide from dipsy or big board presentations over concentrated downrigger sets. Outriggers are a plus for getting more width too and can be obtained for the about the cost of a down rigger. Mark
  15. State land is public access.....use it....your tax dollars were supposed to pay for it.... can the state really put up no trespassing on public tax payer owned property?
  16. Nice fishing report Rick, I think the salmon are hitting the smorgasbord of smelt near the bar with a feeding frenzy every so often. They get stuffed and lay around in their living rooms watching fishing lure shows Mark
  17. Good job Mike , Again , the smile is worth the whole day Nice outdoors girls you have there Mark
  18. Ahhh the humbling of the finicky fishies ...they make you wanna come back with a vengeance for more, just to prove you weren't doing it all wrong......hopefully they will help out with a little bit of give instead of take Mark

  20. I don't think the Village and Town of Wilson will let the park close entirely. It was mentioned some time ago that the village has already made an offer to take over the operation of it. Like Mike said, the area tourism will suffer greatly and in turn cause real havoc with the revenues that all local businesses collect. The tax base from loss of sales alone will gut the State fund even more. A joint effort by the county planning office for Niagara County should coincide with the Village of Wilson business owner's associations to push through a solution to keep it open. We have kept after the Orleans county planning office and it has worked to keep open the Oak Orchard Marine park. Mark
  21. Happy B-day Chad....SALUTE! May your Pinnacles find a cup in one stroke Thanks for the neat site, LOU is the greatest! Mark

  23. http://smithsedge.com/products/product.asp?id=61&cid= Smith's is what I have been using and it is great as long as the carbide v notch is in good shape. They do wear a little over time. It is quick and easy and most of all CHEAP... OR inexpensive if you prefer. A few licks on this thing and a quick strop of the blade on the pant leg and it is razor. I like this and it is the first sharpener that I have had that really is foolproof...no fiquring angles and such...you can "feel" the sharpener do the job on the blade. Sold almost everywhere..got mine at bass pro and cabela's think I have at least 4 of them in different places where I need a sharp knife. Mark OOPS my bad I had Knife sharpener on my head.....well now you can get a cheap knife sharpener
  24. I knew I shouda went west...farther west than Shadagee, tried the Oak today in the PM and it was a no hitter. Cold 48 degree surface and no color, some chasers most likely lakers. Nice report Bill, great pics, now I gotta wait till I get home again....on the road again Mark
  25. not sure Tom, but it is kind of small and is in a location that will get a lot of boat traffic. Maybe it will not be there too long. Mark
