  1. Was out in front of the breakwall setting up today. There is a data bouy, yellow in color and standing maybe 4 feet high above the surface. It is directly in front of the breakwall anchored (I believe since the waves were slapping it and it appeared to be resisting movement)...it is in 65 feet of water. Keep an eye out for it. It will be difficult to see in rough water and low light. It did not appear to have a strobe on it. Mark
  2. Paul, go west of Point Breeze, unless things change by the next few days. Fished the Oak today and the water was cold 48 degrees and colorless. East wind had the water cleared up from the big blow we had over the weekend. Saw some good marks out at 70-80 feet but no takers, probably lakers, they just followed. tried spoons and flasher/ flies no hits this afternoon. There have been sporadic periods of good fishing off the oak but not real consistent yet. Mark
  3. That's the ticket to future fishing for the boy ....hey nice lineup of "bling" on the rack there...Saltist show Mark
  4. If you got a 4x4 rig be sure to take it. You can drive the beach and access it from maintained ramps over the dunes. It is very handy to get to places that are a far walk. Just air down the tires (10-15 psi) for some floatation and you can go anywhere even with street tires as long as you stick to trails and have an easy foot on the gas. The hot spots for me are the cape point out of Buxton and the Light house access point. It is a very far distance from paved roads and only a vehicle is the way to get there. Also try the Ocracoke inlet for some flounder and other fish such as the blues and spanish there. Pompano should be around at that time all along the surf side and although they are not big fast fighters, they are some of the best eating. Catch them on pieces of shrimp or harvest some sand fleas in the roll of the surf and put them live on a hook. look for pockets and troughs and pools of water along the shore at low tide for pompano. If you camp, you might like Frisco Woods Campground http://www.outer-banks.com/friscowoods/ . We stay there a lot and have very nice sites right on the sound. Cabin rentals are available too there. This site has many links to info on beach access and tides and fishing reports etc. http://www.hatterasoutfitters.com/links.htm. As for casting from the beach I would have primarily two rods. One rigged with a big spin cast reel loaded with 20 to 30 lb line for heaving bunker with a 6 to 8 ounce pyramid sinker and some 2/0 50-60lb leader hooks for red drum and bait rigs for blues and cobia. The other would be a speed casting rod and long cast spool spin reel for hurling a metal lure for the bluefish and spanish feeding frenzies. Hopkins No-Equal are a good choice of lure and cast a country mile on 12 pound line. be sure to spool on a shock leader of 30lb flouro leader material so you don't loose the lure to acceleration or the toothy critters, or have the 12 lb line saw your finger on the cast (a little finger protector is sold at most shops to keep that from happening too). Here is a place that will set you up with all you need for tackle and info. on Hatteras Island http://www.friscorodgun.com/tackle.html . If you like a good seafood dinner, the Channel Bass restaurant in Hatteras village is very good and not too pricey last I knew. Also the Hatterasman drive in has great crab cakes. Bubba's barbeque right at the campground is very good in Frisco. If you get down as far as Hatteras village, you can go to the south end of town and get your vehicle on the Ocracoke ferry for free and drive down to Ocracoke Village for the shops and sites for the family. Fishing is good along the beaches of Ocracoke too. The trade winds bait and tackle company is a good source of info there as mentioned above in a previous post. Here is another site for tackle and info in Hatteras village. http://www.teachslair.com/the_roost.htm. they have charters and I used to camp there as well, but not sure if they are still operating a campground. They do have two brothers there who I have done some business with for tackle and tips. They are the Hissey brothers and they are well known outfitters and rod builders there. They can help you with the right stuff to get the job done. Hope this helps, if you need more info on Hatteras island or Ocracoke shoot me a PM and I'll try to help in regards to fishing or places. Mark

  8. Solo fishing is a connection to your inner-conscience. You can question and answer yourself (aloud) and no one will know how crazy you want to feel about it Always a good time.....of course if your Ray solo, then the rubber girls might think your crazy, but, what do they know. They are rubber and not so inflated with opinions at the end of the day Great fishing by the way Mark
  9. I think if I really wanted a 26 powered by outboard, it would have to be a big single 300. Other factors include the beam of the boat. 8.5 beam is easy to push around but a 10 foot is pretty tough. Unless you are trying to achieve speeds in excess of 40 mph for any reason. A single is WAY less expensive than a twin just to gain 100hp. Also if you go with the four stroke version the fuel consumption will be way less than two stroke. The models with digital throttle control are very fuel efficient compared to two strokes....and you always have to factor in 1 gal of two stroke TCW 3 every 50 gal of gas for each outboard at a cost of around $24.00 a gal for the oil. SO two of those monsters running is very very expensive at 40 gals (which I think is a tad lite in my experience) per hour. Gas 3.20 a gal X 40= $128.00 + 24 for oil= 152 bucks for an hour ride. The single will also give you the room you want in the transom for a kicker and room in the cockpit as well. The Out board will have a little less weight than a 454 too. The 454 is probably the cheaper way to equip the boat for power however, but maybe not. It is something to consider in the price. In case your intrested in used ...this one I found is for sale and equiped for Lake Ontario...fresh water boat..wellcraft 2600 coastal 10 ft beam. http://www.listown.com/books/ny/201002/655987.htm Mark PS...found again more pics http://boats.oodle.com/view/ny-1994-26- ... hester-ny/

  16. On the tailing end of the dipsy diver I have used a flouro leader of 15 to 30 lb depending on fish specie to go to the lure or flasher. The flouro leader I tie for this has a perfection loop tied on one end and a snap swivel on the other end for the lure. No sense in loosing too much terminal tackle on an unfortunate breakoff. The perfection loop is easy to tie and lays straight along the plane of the line. It can be pushed through the eye of the dipsy swivel and the other end brought through the loop to form a half hitch around the dipsy swivel eye. The half hitch affords two wraps around the eye for double the strength. Mark
