  1. Yup, what Pete said!...I like the long lead (48 inch?) clamp on scotty release. Gives plenty of length to get it clipped on the line.Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Makes a great setup, only be careful on the drop of the ball if you are using a fixed release on the wire with the diver. Too fast and the diver will turn over and spin, collecting the ball rod sometimes. Go slow and let the diver stay in plane, and you will be ok. 4. Ahh jjeeeezeeeerrrs!...I thought I was the only one with these problems!..don't know what to tell ya anymore!..I know the feeling about the new boat. You will get it eventually, like I do, by accident and you won't know how it happened. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Sounds like an issue with the tablet. Does the tablet work ok with all of its apps and stuff? On that tablet, you can do a hard reset by turning it off. Then hold down the volume up button while pressing the power on button. It should reset all the properties. Maybe that will get it to run the screen mirroring function of wifi..Frustrating electronic stuff!..Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. The blank screen is on the tablet, Nick? Is the screen even lit up with blue or black? Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I did some reading on this WiFi setup. It appears you have to enter a network key that should be on your GO7 connections screen. Have you turned on your scan for WiFi devices on the tablet, then entered the network key for the GO7? I don't think you need a password unless going through a wireless hub, or connections to a wireless provider such as a marina supplied hot spot. Also as mentioned above there are two modes. One to connect to a wireless network providing a broadband Internet connection for updates to the GO7 software and the other mode is client mode for your own interconnected wireless devices direct to the GO7. .when you get the prompt, "always allow" after typing in the key from your GO7 onto your tablet, you should select "yes" and then you don't have to enter the password each time. Essentially I believe the password is the connection key listed in your available WiFi devices in range identified as "Nexus 7" If you experience more trouble, you can do a hard reset by holding the power button down for 30 seconds and listen for 2 chirps then release. Restart with the power button. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Thanks for the report! Figures after the big flip over that things would be scattered off shore. Very nice looking fish, in great shape! Well I guess I got my big Yammer fixed up just in time for a long sea trial! Hope she runs better now! Mark Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Soon as you get that GO7 up and running with a test, screen shots etc...(you should stay seated behind it...you know...crutches..oops!) let us know how it works for you. I am looking at the NSS 9 or 12, but would like to know how you like that unit (size and touch features, intuitive rating, visibility, and power, mostly). I just installed a 2 weeks free trial of navionics on a Acer A500 tablet. That seems pretty nice so far ..from the couch anyway. Hope your hind leg starts working better for ya! Its not really that you're getting unhealthy, more like just getting older. Don't worry though, soon over time, (several decades) your mind will adjust to the rest of you, and then you'll be ok. I do alot of couchfishing these days until my body catches up with my mind... Mark Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. The only way I know of to run wire on the outriggers is to use a roller release like one from AFTCO. I used them, but didn't have any luck with copper on them. Your wire dipsy may work ok, I don't know because I haven't tried the AFTCO with the dipsy wire yet. What I do now is use braid over the pin on a blacks release with no loop twist. I know the fleas are an issue with MOST braids, but there is one that is very good at reduced flea collection and I have found it to be better than wire in side by side equal time running. It is Fireline Fused Original in 30lb test. It is slick, and so far the fleas are minimal compared to other braids. Try it if you can, you will be better off with it and it is ok with the blacks release over the pin.I had the AFTCO break a copper and one of the releases actually broke, loosing the roller out of it. 11. I actually like the short coppers. I have 2 of the 100 foot 45lb. They work great in many different positions and can achieve most any depth when used in combination with a downrigger or a snap weight. Kids and ladies especially like them as they are easy to handle, lighter and less line out to start with. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Sir, I hope you don't take offense to my offer of advice for his question on the outrigger and copper program. I don't do face book, sorry. I can see that you have a Carolina style boat with a wide beam and your outriggers are trussed, meaning they are probably of the 20 to 30 foot length variety. Those can be very effective and the wide beam of your boat gives plenty of separation for coppers and a dipsy or 2 inside. As you mentioned every boat design is different and yours is obviously a much wider boat than mine with longer poles for outriggers. My boat is center console and the riggers are T top mounted about 5 feet apart. My separation is only 35 feet, yours probably close to 50 or more with 20 foot rigger poles and a 10 Foot beam. Very nice rig you have there by the way! A beauty!...What make is it? Mark Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. As I mentioned earlier, and as Rick pointed out, the dipsey will be out under the long coppers on an out rigger. You can control the dance manually on putting them out and bringing them in, but when the king is controlling the dance it all goes downhill from that point. You will have no control over the other end of 200 to 300 feet of dipsy lead and a charging king going at right angles to everything...you just can't predict it. I try not to go over a 1 setting and keep the rod close to the boat and at water horizon. Like I said you still can get tangled even then, but you can get tangled on any long copper in the chute too...it's just easier to manage when only one copper is running in the chute. In most cases I don't even run a dipsy when running the outrigger coppers. On days where I feel it's necessary to get more than 5 lines in the water, I will only run 1 long copper in the chute and use the outriggers to get more separation on dipsy and then I run 4 dipsy rigs at once. As Les pointed out, the outrigger poles are a point of concern with divers. Obviously longer poles take on more leverage and can be tough on mounts and roof attachment. I have 15 foot aluminum Taco and use paracord for rigging so the divers can pull without breaking something. They flex pretty wild with the dipsy and a ring, but do work nicely with the blacks release over the pin and no twist on the line. Use the drag as normal to hold the dipsy at its predetermined distance out. That's it, either I choose copper or dipsy and go from there as to the setup. Typically I run all dipsey AS MANY AS 4, then 3 riggers and one long copper in chute 8 TOTAL..., or I run 2 long coppers (outriggers) NO dipsy, three riggers either clean or stacked with 2 100 foot coppers 20 ft above the ball, sometimes the short coppers on the ball....SWR style😆 TOTAL 5.. OR 7 WITH STACKERS. outriggers shine in rough water where the planners would have some trouble. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Yeah I think he will be happy with that combo. The simrad stuff is really nice and it's close to the nss evo model, but I don't think the screen gers bigger than 7 inch in the GO series. The tablet idea takes care of that and with a 12 inch screen there you cam have a unit to move around and velcro it to the helm area or the rigging area..where ever! Its a good combo! The transducer is a key element to its power in the water as with anything sonar. Good choices Nick! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  16. Haven't done one of those reels. Its a little bigger than the seagate 60 that holds 450 yards of 30 lb, but my calculator says you would only fit about 400 feet of 50 lb power pro. You could get about 700 feet of 30lb backing if you wanted to go lighter. My calculator works on blood run diameter copper and this is the calculation for that, and, with a little more room deduction figured for the Atomik copper diameter being .004 thousands thicker. 17. I run long coppers off 15 foot outriggers set about 11 feet above the water surface and angled back behind center of boat. The copper enters the water nearly 30 feet behind the boat, out of the way. When running dipsey off the boat, the setting is #1 for me, and only one dipsey per side. Anything higher numbers on dipsey, you run the risk of a fish carrying the diver into the copper. It still can happen even then though. I would never run a 3 setting with outriggers running copper, they would be crossed for sure. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. http://www.imarineusa.com/SimradNSS7evo2FactoryRefurbished.aspx This ain't bad! Has nice navigation and sonar in one, 7 inch, touch screen, insight maps, I think you might need a Transducer for broadband and the chirp functions if you want to use those. Navico TM 150 (transom mount) is compatible but is a bit pricey at almost 300 clams. The refurb unit is under 1000 however.. I'm looking at the same for my boat, u tube has some some nice demos on the Simrad nss evo2 9 inch model. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. 600 clams?....hmmmm..a Barbi fish finder!..😆...how about one of the refurbs from raymarine or simrad..not the big bucks and probably as good as new but just smaller warranty coverage. Usually can upgrade the warranty for a few more clams though.. Mark Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Nick, you need to change that Barbi reel out for zebco 808!...more backing! 😂 Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Well you could very well be correct! No one ever said Cuomo was a fiscal genius... if the state doesn't stop to think about where their bread is buttered already by the feds.Sporting goods excise tax that is allocated to all 50 states for freshwater fishing. I think we may have a very large portion of that tax allocation when you look at the large amount of fresh water fishing there is here. However, the state has already screwed themselves on the salt water federal tax grants they could have had. 1,500,000 dollars was left on the table just because the state never had a salt water fishing license last year. Shows how stupid Albany beaurocrats really can be!. . So if they choose not to stock salmon in favor of fed money for lake trout, they will once again, shoot themselves in the foot. Not many fishermen gonna buy fishing equipment just for the lake trout. Without the salmon, the equipment sales go down, so does their allocated fisheries funding from the feds... Dominos!... 24. Seagate 60 is a nice reel. I have 2 of them 400/ 45 lb and 600/ 32 lb both with 300 yards fill pack of 30lb power pro. Right to the top of the spool. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Remember. ...cell phones are only good if there is someone who you know is out there with you nearby. Unless you want to spend money on a tow service. I carry 2 radios...1 portable scanner, on all the time. One fixed 25 watt on a high gain antenna to reach out. I will respond in need. Won't take your cash either!.... been in need myself in scary places...BQE out of fuel at night, before the Verrazano bridge. Not on water but, not in good neighborhood.
