  1. Way to go fellow Lyntuckians, glad to see you put the Oak on the board .Nice job, maybe see you out there this next week. Finally can park this truck and fish after the 1st. Mark
  2. Once again a very nice post. Beautiful pics, love the tiger markings. Had one come to my ice jig last winter, saw him on the under water camera. Came outa nowhere like a torpedo thru the weeds, stopped short and turned sideways just hovering there near the jig, showing off his markings in the sunlight coming thru the ice. He moved on after a minute. I was thinking the bluegills were really starting to come around and then they disappeared just before the tiger showed up. A wolf among sheep so to speak Mark
  3. dipsey on copper? CRINGE i (i do it, but don't tell anyone, cause i got a train horn on my tricycle )
  4. Like Captain Carl said, don't go crazy with the maximum number of lines in the water. It becomes tedious to try to manage too much. By that I mean, if the fish are actively feeding and you are into them, six lines is plenty, especially with a double and triple hookup. On the other hand if you got six lines in the water and some cheated, you got most of all the exposure to the fish covered with bait choices and presentations. If there are all six lines in and no fish are jumping on your setups then it's likely the bite is slow, even if you have varied speed and direction. Two or three more lines in will not make a difference to the fishes mood. Less is more= fun+simple minus frustration due to tangles or just the "I can't believe they aren't hitting, I got everything in the water I can get". Believe me it's happened with ten lines and twelve baits. Then there's days when I get a double and a box full by myself ( two lines ) Mark
  5. Don't get me wrong....I didn't say anything about the arms and the government in the same sentence. However it is at least one reason why we don't have Iran's fun and games right now. They would just like to have a REAL election and not a dictator telling them I WON I WON I WON. and don't you try to tell me different or I'll sic my republican guard on you, you rock throwing rioters! BANG BANG ,,BOOM . and they all fell down..now the rest of you, give me everything you own and all your money.
  6. that's why we still have a second amendment....for now..support the NRA and SCOPE (shooters committee on political education). Dangerous times indeed!
  7. Same thing is going on with the NYS DOT. They are increasing their inspections of commercial vehicles as well. Just a couple of days ago, friends of ours went to the state land in Otter Creek with their horse trailer for a recreational ride there. They were inspected by the DOT police and they wrote 10 tickets for safety violations ranging from no fire extinguisher to no safety chains hooked to the tow vehicle etc. Now I'm not condoning this kind of safety ignorance ...but each violation was $350 for a total of $3500 bucks . That is just plain rediculous, and not unexpected from our stupid state government. Add this to your list of gripes for the idiots in Albany that can't figure how to get their heads out of somebody elses a$$ (spitzer). the new one wouldn't know except for the odor Now the next will be your boat and trailers being fined for whatever they can for the same rediculous money. Heaven forbid you should have a light out and get pulled over and inspected for your safety equipment, just so they can try to settle the state deficit. WITH OUR MONEY. maybe the governor should take another LOOK at this. Mark
  8. Ok, gotta try it I suppose. Must have adjustments for the jigging action so it doesn't plane off and come to the surface right?
  9. Ok...I don't see how a little spring, has got the tension enough to do the job. Especially when there is three to five footers yanking and tugging on the diver. Hope somebody (me) will try it and see what the "hey". Just looks strange... and what keeps the plastic thingy from tripping over under "pressure"?
  10. sorry guys about saying the "norm", I was using my own experience with the 30 lb vs. 45lb. I do have both on board but like the 30 for the less winch cable feel. I have not noticed a huge difference in the depth capability as the 30 lb still gets the approximate 22 ft for 100 out in my tests running in towards shore at an angle waiting for the tap on the bottom. It's only a preference for me with the reel capacities I am using, especially with the 600 ft copper. Mark
  11. 30lb copper is what is the norm. 45 lb is available and I have used it but it is like winch cable and requires too much reel to spool enough on. As far as rod goes, I have a couple of medium surf rods that double for the duty of a copper rig. They are 8.5 ft long so if ya got some old rods around not being used that seem pretty stout in the middle section you could save some money and use them. Length is not to much consideration if you are going to use them off the big boards or even "down the chute" as they say, which is merely sending a bait on the rig down the middle in the prop wash between your riggers and dipsey spread. You do not have to send all 600 or 400 feet out. I basically have a 600 that is sent out to target a depth that is productive with the downriggers activity zone (ie. 100 ft out equals approx 22 ft down) so if the riggers are fireing with kings at 66 feet I let out 300 feet of the copper. It is just "old school" kind of fishing before modern man invented the downrigger. My grand pa would have said this is the way we used to fish for deep water lakers and "Cooperstown Bass" back in a day cooperstown bass were a species of whitefish that were great table fare, they came from Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, NY.......anyway, It is worth a try if you want to do something different with your program. It goes out on Planner boards to spread a deep water program, it goes on my outriggers to the side of things, it goes down the middle in the wash and gives the fish that came to the spread and didn't bite a second chance for the trailing copper to hit the mark. It is by no means accurate fishing equipment as far as depth goes depending on speed type of lures and current. The shorter coppers are used mainly to pull on boards where you let all the copper, say 150 feet for 33 down, or 300 out to get 66 down, and place the backing in the release so that it doesn't kink the copper. Also I use dipsey divers on the coppers to get depth and keep seafleas from collecting on the lines. This also facilitates the common "combat fishing" problem when you have many boats fishing close to you, so as to avoid the long lines tangling with others you can achieve great depths close to your boat without the long leads. Typically the copper/dipsey will achieve depths 1 foot for every 2.5 let out on the copper... dipsey set at 2.5 on the dial with no ring. Ie. 165 feet out will get you down 66 feet without 300 feet dragging way back there behind the boat. Mark
  12. post the pics on here so we can all see the "meatheads" who might also be on here then upon recognition...well you'll all know how to deal with them in your own way. ME....AVOIDANCE....I loathe entirely, stupid people and believe they should fish from rubber boats near many sharp objects
  13. frowning fisherman....or...poor timing with the shutter release....but nice atlantic salmon the fish brought no immigration credentials Mark
  14. I leave home without mine (wishlist)...but everybody is on the radio giving down temp most of the time. Speed is nearly the same as GPS if you go on a north south troll from the south shore. I still catch my share of fish...maybe I could catch somebody elses share of fish too, if I had one..I don't know Mark
  15. Nice post Phil, as usual, the pics and the story draw me right in, like I was there....thanks. Reminds of a time when I was in Wellsville, and fished the beginnings of the Genesee for trout with a canoe. Mark
  16. thanks, gambler for the insight , I was thinking of them for a trial, but now I'm not. Hate wasted money Mark
  17. Great report Ray, glad to see the fish are there finally. Been a hit or miss venture until now at best. Got spoiled by the gobs of bait and fish at the Bar, but still challenged the gin clear waters at the Oak, only to find active steelhead 90% of the time. Now take the wifey and the bowser and go camping more than 22 miles from the house Mark
  18. What is Ray scratchin about? Invasive fleas?hmmmm? crabs ?
  19. Good to see the Lake "O" techs are workin for ya Stan. Now feed those fish some alewife and smelt . By the way what do those salmon eat in there? They must grow bigger don't they, or is that the normal size? We can send you some invasive critters to help those fish grow. Just ask Ray to bring his boat and launch it there in Shasta, he has them all living with him on there somewhere Those look like good grillers Thanks for the pics Stan Mark
  20. Tank in the bilge where it gets cold from lake then warm from out of the lake and back and forth will cause condensation and the alcohol sticks to the water and phases out and drops to the bottom of the tank leaving a high concentration of alcohol and water sitting in the bottom of the tank. That off course is where the draw is in the tank...in the bottom. So if you leave the boat sitting for a period of a week or more there's some problems with that association of cold to warm and back again. To combat this and to protect engines especially two strokes I have religiously used Lucas fuel additive as the instructions say and have never had a problem with the pump gas (87 octane) from the stations on the street. Just a precaution and it serves to help lubricate the upper cylinder and clean injectors as well. Good Stuff. Mark
  21. Should be an interesting Proam..... Indeed!...Monday,no bait, no good temps, no green water, no good wind...but they will come soon!
  22. If Ray see's the Pres coming, he will most appropriately adorn himself with a towel worn on head (the one with ears and TWO eyes) and be in his usual customery fishing attire known to the rest of us as "the buffy" suit. Then Mr. Pres. will appropriately BOW to him and ask for his forgiveness for the rest of us morons making the exalted one furious with the USA
  23. Nice vid and pics MG...I was out on Monday and the screen was like the drive-in in the middle of january..temps went down 3 degrees in the NE wind, had two hits nobody home. Great to see the fish are starting to come around at the OAK. Nice to meet you down at the EZ shop. Tight lines man! Will be back around the 4th of July for another round out there. Gotta drive my life awaaayyyy. Bye Mark
  24. You're absolutely a genius Tom. I gotta stop tryin to work my butt off. Darnit my dad always said I had to work hard to get somewhere's, now I wonder what he would say today if he were here. I got this workin thing all wrapped up in my head and can't learn how to live off the system. Now it's too late, if I screw up cause I'm in business, they will tell me it is my own fault for my demise. However, I do like the part about getting the tow truck . I like trucks, I guess I'll always be in one to the last days. Mark
  25. I'm gonna run for ALL the positions that Tom B mentioned above and I will only keep half of the pay and donate half back to the sportsmen in the form of license reduction and fishing and hunting improvements. Then I will become a multi-millionaire in short order and bail out Albany and promptly fire all the dead wood in the capital. oh yeah, I forgot to multiply $140,000 by ALL the ramps around the state....hmmmmm...wonder how many that is maybe around 3000...$420,000,000 per season . that should do it.
