  1. What Ed said....do the hose and pressure trick but I used PB Blaster, that stuff is phenominal on everything from loosening bolts and nuts to doing this trick. Then I mixed PB with lithium grease, (the white stuff), and hit it again. Turn the wheel back and forth (alot) and it will loosen. Pull it hard stop to stop to force air in and out, and THEN if it doesn't work....new cable Mark
  2. Great report ....stinkin weather That's why I'm couch fishin today Mark

  12. Use the Gps and visual, audible clues together to formulate the speed that collects the most fish on deck. without looking you can hear the whine of downrigger cables, and if you look you will notice the approximate angle of the cables blowing back in the water resistance. The most consistent water speed passing the boat and lure spread will be the one going across currents that naturally flow west to east in the big O, therefore north south will be most consistent. If you don't hear the whine on the cables and your cables are nearing 30 degrees or less, (depends on weight and style of rigger ball), You are likely too slow, but you will get a "feel" for whats best when the fish are jumping on the lines, Lastly if you are in the company of other boats, particularly, well known charters and happen to be going in same directions I guage myself with that as well. I have not invested in the down speed and temp probe as yet but seem to not have as much a problem with speed as I do with wondering about temp down there. I'm sure that if you have fished the downriggers for some time you have used some combination of these factors to associate the catching of fish with it. As far as the wheel goes it is useless IHO, and is susceptible to many different influences with stray currents behind the boat and junk collecting on them. As others have said they will not match to each other. I don't have the speed wheel on my boat for that reason. mark
  13. Pete...Great scope...nice price too, I think I like it!..I'm originally from the catskills and had several farmer friends and a golf course owner who were happy to see me show up with the little fly weight bullet with the big boom. Golf course was fun when no one was out during the week there were some 600 yard fairways that offered some nice shots..kinda cool gettin a hole in one from 600 yards I even used the winchester for deer and it was a drop in the tracks for any range as long as I could see them in the clear. Mark
  14. I use the 22.250 as well, had a model 70 winchester 6-18 power tasco with trajectory comp. Worked real good with hand loads. Now have the same Savage as you heavy fluted barrel, laminated stock, real heavy firearm but track driver with 8-32 power simmons mounted. Favorite hand load is 39.2 grains of H-380, pushing a 55 grain sierra PSP at a little over 3700 FPS muzzel. I have pushed the charge to 41 grains, however it behaves badly during summer temps with pressure, so I rarely use those loads for anything over 40 degrees. The groups tighten up nicely as the charge goes up but significant primer flattening and sometime a blowout have occured during hot temps in the summer, so 39.2 H-380 is my favorite. Brass lasts a lot longer too. 41 grains launches 55 gr projectile over 3900 FPS and is just devastating to whatever it touches....BUT BE CAREFULL...and check your headspace if you do any handloading....May the fur fly...BOOM Mark
  15. Happy b-day....May you get many diesel powered toys
  16. this should help Mark
  17. I use two batteries with the perko switch, both batteries the same. I seldom use one of the batteries because I like to keep it in reserve for an emergency start in case of a failure in the battery I'm drawing from. I f, however you are using a kicker motor that does not charge, and you use electronics all day without the main engine running you probably would do well to have a deep cycle combination starting battery for trolling, and still keep one battery fresh all the time for starting the main engine. Once you start the main you can switch it back to the aux. deep cycle for charging on the way back to port. Then when back at port you would probably want to give the aux. battery a good charge with a small 6 amp charger at nite. Just remember you should never try to charge both batteries at the same time. you run the risk of burning out the stator and regulator in your alternator. Also one useful instrument on your dash should be a voltage monitor for the battery you are using so you don't totally deplete the accessory battery. Even if you do, you can still start up the main engine with the reserve battery you keep fresh. BTW you can run two deep cycle batts as long as they have starting crank amps rated as high as you can get them for the series of the battery you are using, maybe a 24 or 27 series is what fits your box or could be even bigger series , I don't know. What ever it is get the biggest crank amps for the size battery and you will have plenty of power to start up and head out or head home. Mark
  18. Proflo jitter fly in goby 2in and 4 in. They look a lot like your muddler minnows. Should work...not sure about a large flasher though... ya might try a smaller version in a darker color if the big ones don't work for ya Mark
