New reels for copper but need some input
skipper19 replied to Chas0218's topic in Tackle and Techniques
The spread sheet is limited to finding the volume of a reel that has manufacturers line capacity specs based on 30 lb mono. Other specs can easily be calculated to find the volume by dividing the rated line diameter, such as 25 lb being .019, in thousands of an inch into 1 and square that answer then Divide by 36. Then Divide the yardage capacity of the 25 lb, which for that reel is 310 by the answer from the first calculation. The result is the volume in cubic inches of that reel. Ok, yeah it's a good ride for you then. I used to be that far away down towards oneonta. Now I'm 15 minutes to point breeze and the Oak! Oswego is a great port with a lot of fun all around! Look up Pete Shelhammer on the red dock, boat name On The Lam, he would be a good source for on the spot info! Good man!Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Yeah, that is probably fine, especially in a chute position straight off the rod in the middle. Running boards or side planners will reduce the effective backing for a king running off. You might have 100 feet deployed from you backing in some cases. I know I do when I use the outriggers on them. I have essentially the same reels in the Seagate 60 model. One is a 400 45lb and the other a 600 32 lb. Both are backed with 900 30lb braid and work flawlessly. Nice fast reels and good drags too! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Your welcome, if you still want to use 50lb braid backing, 900 feet of that will fit a 400 blood run 45 lb very tightly. You would definitely have enough room with 30lb braid without too tight on that combo with 400. 450 will be pretty tight however. Space goes fast with 45lb!Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You wouldn't get much backing on there with 500. I would recommend 900 feet 30 lb braid. And you can get 450 feet 45 lb on there. Also be aware that this table works with blood run diameter copper which is smaller than others. Try to leave about .25 or more in the green box for your leader. A 0 reading is right to the top, no room for a leader wind on.Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

https://www.verywell.com/choose-the-healthiest-fish-2223815 Intresting read. You will find that they talk about species of fish, and which are the least mercury laden, moderate and heavier. Salmon and trout listed as one of the least!..along with many others and the worst is bluefish, swordfishes, etc....those are ocean fish! Big predator fish! Of course they are talking in general terms of geography, since no one body of water or aqua feature was singled out!... Yes, if the fish looks healthy, you opened it up, and cared for it, then you know it's not from some weird place on earth, not handled poorly, etc. It's in all fish everywhere. It's in the fallout of the atmosphere. The cows eat and drink the same water runoffs. They get injected with stuff and we injest it, worse maybe. Largely, I think most of us would ignore reasons to disdain eating a lake trout for the possibility of poisoning ourselves, if the lake trout from Ontario tasted better! Bacon!..Butter!...it's not really good for you, but it makes Ontario lakers more palatable. Just like shrimp...wait![emoji19] ..that has cholesterol!...it's all evil![emoji84] [emoji102] Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Got a Rapala 12 volt with three way power. Cig plug, clips, or 110 volt converter. Many years old. Gets pretty warm on a basket full of panfish but never burns up so far...crossed fingers knock on my skull! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

You could get 10 colors on that reel with 900 feet backing of 30 lb braid. The copper will get you much deeper however.I think the 27lb lead core is just a .001 less thickness than blood run 45lb copper. So it figures about the same in volume. Gotta be better than eating van dekamps fillet of sole from Korea. What's in their water?...comes to a packing plant in korea, goes in a box, flash frozen, goes in a warehouse into a container across the oceans onto a dock, into a truck, in and out of refrigerating systems, that might not be working all the time. Sits in the store for you to buy...fresh seafood! Wrap the bite size pieces of laker in bacon smear with butter garlic baste on a shish kabob stick over apple or cherry wood grill....mmm good...of course bacon makes everthing good! Even mercury! What the heck...you will eat mercury anyway! From any where! Oceans are not immune to it! Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Another thing too, if the transducer is transom mounted, maybe you can change the angle to a more forward down looking? One or two screws off the top of the bracket and slide in a shim to tip the transducer just a bit, and reinstall the screws, so it shoots the cone more forward is a possibility. Ken, I assume you are talking about the cold water series reel? It shows 330 yards of 30lb mono capacity. If you want to go deep copper on that reel, I would go with 32lb blood run for 400 feet. You can get 750 feet of 30 lb braid backing on that and have room for the 30 foot wind on leader. I have a penn 309 reel with that capacity and have the same on it.The 400 feet of 32 lb will get you plying into 80 foot depths. Run it in the chute with 750ft backing and you will be ok. Out on boards can take away more useful backing and give the advantage to the fish! I still feel more confident with 900 feet, but also run out nearly 100 feet of backing on outriggers elevated 11 feet above water surface. I just re-ran the numbers on the calculator, and 800 ft 30 lb braid will go on ok. ...not bad! And I actually like the 32 lb copper better for handling too! 20 is probably ok,. If you are using it now for riggers. You probably know how to play your fish without breakoffs, even with 12lb. Others in your party might not be aware of the finnese of lighter lines. One thing to consider is how much pressure you can put on a fresh king before he spools your 650 feet! 30 would be better. Even if the fish doesn't spool you, there is that bung hole tighten that happens if you are solo and only a few wraps left and the core of the spool is highly visible, no one at the helm!...been there. Very alarming [emoji90] Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Check all connection, be sure to use proper wire guage, those will cause low voltage, high amp draw. Check the breaker next. Swap it with one working. See what happens. It still pops, gotta be motor on the rigger issue. Bad brushes or commutator. Sometimes can clean them up if not worn will make a difference. Sent from my SM-N900P using Lake Ontario United mobile app
