If I may intercede here...27 lb lead core is same diameter as 45 lb copper. (.033).. 400 would be really tight backing with 50lb. ..350 would be safe with a 30 ft leader. But I caution on the reel capacity specs. Factory and vendors state 30 # Mono capacity at 330 yards. The packing box states 290 yards. I used the 290 yard packing box spec for the calculation.

30 lb Mono added. Anyone wanting answers, to any reel can pm me..BESIDES OKUMA MODELS and blood run super braid 65lb.. (use the lists already provided by Legacy Capt. Rob for those) I commend him for taking the time to personally hand check those applications ..,On the others, I'll send you a link to use the sheet yourself, or I can do it for you, and send you a copy of the results. Just let me know your segment choices, (length and test) and give me a reel make/ model or 30# mono capacity in yards of one you plan to use. I'll do my best to help you set up without wasting time or money on guessing the outcome. Looking forward to helping anyone and make the calculator better as it evolves! It does work very well! They're alright, just slow.. the line guide isn't wide so no big knots. Drag is decent. Not gonna get much for 59.95 any reel.

Condensation happens, ethanol or not. Boats on trailers going in and out of 90 degree air to 60 70 degree water with tank in the bilge is the worst environment for any fuel, diesel, gas, corn blends no matter. The water settles. Alcohol bonds to it. It strip additional additives and compounds that are in gasoline to begin with, when it phases . I run the tank down low. Put a double dose of ethanol fuel stabilize in it for what is left when it's stored. Fill it with new gas at least 25 gallons in the spring . I ran the 2 stroke yamaha 225 OX once out of fuel to store it...never again. The rubber parts in all 3 low pressure fuel pumps had pin holes after first two trips next season. The vapor separation tank fine screen was coated in white residue from being air dry all winter. Had to clean it with seafoam. I leave all the fuel management stuff on the engine full of fuel. It's been treated by me anyway. Never a problem now in 6 years. It starts every season. The racor fuel water separator gets drained a couple times a year. The gas is 87 octane gulf. I would rather Leave the tank with 10 gallons double treated than 100 gallons to treat or spoil. The motor is never drained of fuel anymore. Sealed injection gets no air, stays pressurized so it can't.

When I get time, soon I'll put monofilament backing calculation in the spreadsheet and a end result for hybrid reel fill for those who want to spool on braid, mono, and copper. That system is useful to fill large capacity reels with less expensive mono over a braid base. Some advantages are for cost, release attachment, shock absorber qualities (stretch), and flea reduction on certain applications of down rigging. -
Yeah I used to make up brine and one day, I was a bit rushed and didn't have some of the ingredients, so had this brine mix sitting there and seems easy so I did it this way. I just added the brown sugar and maple syrup to it so it was quick. I didn't know how it would come out, but it was surprisingly excellent! I had used the brine from the box before and it seemed to lack good flavor of maple that it said it had in it. So this was a good boost for it. It's quick and easy to put together. I hope it works for your fish. Let me know if it came out ok, or if you think it could use something. Like I say, it was a surprise and could even be improved on I suppose, but I liked it very much.I love food from the flue!..BBQ! and smoke! Good luck with it!

Need suggestions for making quick-change leaders
skipper19 replied to Todd in NY's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Rob is corrrct. Pretied is quick. Some with swivel snaps on both ends. Quality like he said. I like the dream weaver snaps, easy to open and close. Even if you use the big snap on the tail of flasher or spinnys, having a leader swivel hooked in tandem won't hurt. For flies I just tie a perfection loop and half hitch it to the big tail swivel. One cheap way to store the leaders of the same test is to use an empty hand wipe plastic container, with the X shaped slot in the lid. Connect the swivel snap on one end together of each leader, so they form a long chain. Coil them evenly around your hand. Then put the coiled leaders in the container, and pull the end of the first one out the X slot and snap the lid back on. The end hangs out, just grab and pull it out to the next one. Un hook it and your next leader is ready in line. Mark the different containers by test, compound, and length. -

Was last May normal for salmon?
skipper19 replied to flybuster's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Great advise Paul! I would also add something more about the wind effect in May. On what most would consider "bad wind" north easterly on the south shore in summer months ,(typically days on end in spring ),, is often gold for inshore 10 to 20 feet of water where the western end tribs dump into the lake. Coves and bars stack that green, warmer trib water just east of their entries. The Niagara flow also moves closer and brings bait and salmon closer to those small areas against the shore coves and bars. Early am late pm stealth longlines, spoons and sticks in that shallow water is key to success there. You'll probably hit browns, but this time of year the fish of all species kings too, is looking for that green warm water. It's a smorgasbord.Mark
