  1. That WAS a nice buck until it was POACHED...to bad the pic isn't geo tagged. Nothing to be proud of if that is ILLEGAL as the grapevine would indicate. That's not a hunter even if the law is wrong!.that's a weak individual, ,would not be sending that around public..I'm blaming this a$$hole for the next doe getting creamed on my rig in his region...
  2. Now that IS a trophy! Great shot, nice photo, pretty young lady hunter, and a very nice doe with great memories to keep for a lifetime both Dad and Daughter! No horns needed! That's how you spend the choice of happiness if you are a bow hunter of opportunities.... congratulations on an early season confidence booster! Many horns are still out there and guess what! ..48 more wonderful days in the woods!..the hunt goes on!
  3. No need to invite more invasive species of homo sapiens. ..just trade your salmon boat for a bow rider with a wide beam and drive with a helmet and soccer net mounted. Carp Hockey...new sport. Sell them to 5 boroughs down state.
  4. The response was to Vince in agreement about the underlying factors that presumably direct the DEC and decisions they make. Revenues not being one of the highest of those factors, as you pointed out earlier when said the DEC is a not for profit agency of the state government. As for the what Vince was saying, my interpretation what he meant that the DEC is in the opposite side of the financial gain spectrum, and more in the camp of their constituents...ie. state and federal leaning instead of the consumers level..ie us, and revenues from us that support their work on all levels. The Salmon stamp would have supported their work through sportsmen without relying on so much dependency from government. However that would lead to we the sportsmen having a lobby stronger than government if such money was to talk louder. I might have it all wrong but money does have its way of making a tree lean with the wind.
  5. Made the mistake of coming to a stop and turning around because I see a light..it's flashing on and off like Morse code. Went towards it and it stops..so I hit the direction with 300,000 candelpower. I see finally a boat with no nav lights sitting there and I cautiously approach to see if there was an emergency. NOPE!..so I'm yelled at for disturbing his water and what ever he's doing. Maybe watching submarine races...I don't know!....Anyway..I'm saying you need to illuminate something besides a flashlight blinking on and off. I think you have a distress!..not the only time this happened either. Radar..or night vision..can see the benefit! For the idiots too!..
  6. Yes Vince, it does sound familiar! Just like the first sentence in your reply to Rollie. Financial gain is only an after thought. A hand out is much easier...
  7. Hunted for years with a halo sight. Mounted it on a range adjustable mount. Same type of sight as used on a pistol. Arm length eye relief that superimposed ...not project...a laser dot on bullseye, and paralax rings line up a perceived rear sight like a rifle plain sight would do. It is electronic and requires two N style batteries to run it. Works great but did not want to depend on the batteries any more and wanted instant access multi range points of aim. Switched to the Tactical Archery SABO Gen 2. Love it! Non electronic multiple range on a heads up display lense. Somewhat difficult to set up but when dialed in..it's spot on..literally! Shows you form deficiency on aiming as well. Only complaint is on a very bright sunlit paper target the red dots tend to fade out against the background. Thought maybe different color like green would help. Has a provision for low light battery operated enhanced sight brightness control for use in a blind. The halo sight worked very well in all light conditions inside or outside. It's the best one point aim sight I have used for that purpose of all light conditions. Just gotta deal with batteries to have a sight was it's biggest drawback. Great on a flat shooting bow with one aim point. Tip to anyone trying the SABO tactical site. I am like Vince with the aged eyeballs!...this sight uses NO PEEP. . It does help with more field of view and eliminates a lot of dual focusing on sight lines. I never liked peeps for my own shooting style. I have found that accuracy increases immensely for me when using this sight aiming with both eyes open. For me that's an advantage target and woods. Reviews are all over either love it or hate it...probably not the most durable sight for reckless handling and care setting it up must be taken to not over tighten the pin locks. Those are very small screws and only need snugging. No peep is my best performance now with aging vision. Mark
  8. Nice fishing Les! You look like you're saying to the camera with the skate..."would you kindly take this alien thing off my hook"? Reds are powerful. I'm headed for them in 10 days in the OBX. Enjoy the rest of your vaca! ...if yer still down there..Watch out this weekend for that rotten hurricane coming up. Hope it steers out to sea!
  9. That is awesome! Great trip worth the tired muscles! Congratulations on a memorable hunt with the Dad!
  10. Maybe the state should have implemented the idea of a salmon fishing stamp for lake Ontario and tribs. It was thought of. Then see if financial gain would have had any luck over the Fed's initiatives.
  11. It definitely will not give you a nick like a razor!
  12. Thanks Stan, great life perspectives!
  13. In 6.5 I like the Creedmoor but as mentioned hard to aquire ammo. Would make a nice sporting rifle round. Also in 6.5 for a bolt action is the 6.5-284. Great supersonic balistic coefficient out over 1000 yards. Nothing wrong with the .25-06 either. Pro for that round is available ammo and brass. A quality barrel will make any of those rounds a tack driver and last longer if floated and shot with adequate time for heat transfer. Flutes might help a bit, but haven't an opinion on that. Mark
  14. Lake Michigan has a forage base problem. Not like Ontario with way better alewife population. Their worries are more predator to prey ratio similar to what happened to Huron some years ago that caused a crash. A lot of what goes on with alewife population isn't all predators either. They aren't even considering stocking Michigan lake trout in higher number. I watch the tournaments on Salmon Showdown and it's pitiful what the teams are bringing to the scale. A 15 to 18 lb mature is big in their lake. Lack of food! Our state see's fed money and would rather shoot themselves in the foot with lack of economic sense of mind. We won't have to worry about the ecology of the lake killing the economy of the state...it will be a "Man caused disaster" from Albany.
  15. Beat ya to the "old catching up" ....put my bow in its case, latched it, took off my tree harness, took off my jacket, put the quiver and arrows in the cab, made phone call check in. Turned the key and backed out then drove about 100 yards down the road.....CRASH!...WHAT TH!!!...split second later I knew. In the dark it layed there in the road. Left it laying balanced across the back corner of the pickup box. Good thing it was in the case and didn't fall off while backing up. Case is one of those cheap plastic Plano with the velcro straps. It saved the bow, and the case was not too damaged other than road rash...DUH! it happens...now I feel better that it wasn't just me..I agree it was OFS! old fart syndrome fault!......
  16. Hey Dylan, I've always had trouble with my hands after getting mild frostbite on my fingers. It happened because I was bringing in trout one after another on a small mountain lake in the catskills and it was very cold with a slight breeze. This was before the advent of great ice tents and I sat outside all the time. I had gloves, the really big ones that were arctic military grade but had to take them off to do any fishing. Soon as they were off they got cold inside and of course they were wet from perspiration. No good!...the absolute best way is to get a hand heater of some type and keep it going in your pocket. When your hands are wet and cold just dry them with a towel and plunge those cold hands into the pockets or even one of those tube style hand muffs that can tie around your waist. If you are catching fish you will have cold hands. If not your hands are warm in the pockets. Gloves will just be a nuisance on and off all the time. Only time for gloves is when you are walking out or back to home point, then they stay on. I suggest using the shake up packs that warm up when exposed to air or a Jon E Warmer. Put it in your pockets and that will warm your hands best when action is on.
  17. Have a safe and healthy winter you guys! Hope for better fishing next year!
  18. Big insulated pockets and a Jon E warmer!...gloves are always off when I'm fishing. Never had gloves that kept my hands warm.
  19. Hmmmm. ..figured something like that for no Yankee at the Oak report this past few weekends. 2 hours and done...poor grizzly I fished for salmon...no cleanup necessary except one day ...
  20. That's what you say after eating it and look in the mirror..
  21. My son has some on cams from last winter around Sherburne.
  22. I like beer and pretzels. So Shock top has a pretzel flavored offering..not bad! I did craft a beer once. Lots of fun but hard to wait for 30 days before trying it. Once made a very strong 7.7 % dark ale that one of my friends did not let spoil!...and stayed over a couple times -_-
  23. Aye, Captain, it's a great beer if yer having only 1. Tis 8.3% alcohol...having 3 would be like a 6 pack of regular brew. ^_^
