Brian we have been getting extra doe tags for quite a few years now. They were free and offered even after the season was under way. A hunter could go to this region that covers 8A and beyond and just ask for them at no charge. What has been explained to me by an officer is that the majority of bow hunters target older bucks and seldom shoot does all season. The data from deer kill reports support the facts. They also have had an inordinate amount of deer vehicle MVA reports from this area and almost all are does involved. The ratio on both accounts of buck to doe kill is way out of balance both accidentally and by hunters. The next problem is there is very little public access in the area and many private farms along with thick residential settled areas and the deer have basically a little sanctuary of no pressure. My opinion is that they will not effectively reduce doe population this way by simply forcing hunters to kill does. Hunters are still not going to have access to all properties to hunt anything any different. The actual best way is to have quality deer management practices going on where ever hunters are allowed to hunt on these private lands. Trouble is the DEC cannot control landowners like they can TRY to control hunters, so nothing will change there. Every time I go on route 18 to the launches at Point Breeze, I take years of brake lining and tire rubber off my boat trailer trying to avoid the mecca of does crossing down past Kuckville. There are really a lot of does there between lakeshore and 18. It's thick too because most of the land is Amish owned and what they don't farm is left overgrown and tough to hunt if you can even get permission.

Stan, we got clepto running rampant around here too. Folks getting ripped off all the time. Even motors sawed off the transom. Some do get caught though. You'll be in trouble with the other half if ya don't fix that telephone line. How's she gonna call ya from the only store that's 30 miles from yer place in the hills there? She might wanna ask ya how much beer ya need or something

Atta boy old trucker! You should be used to tearing down some phone lines...Heck when I was bedbugging I got everybody's phone and cable on some streets:rolleyes:..what was bad was the the secondary power cables I ripped out of someone's house and dropped a service pole in the road...lines draped over a pickup truck :o:(:huh::unsure:

You probably will do yourself a huge favor and replace the diaphragm inside with a kit from yamaha. The thing will eventually leak into the engine and you will fill your crankcase with gasoline. The plunger that rides on the valve rocker can be removed by pushing it down and turning it to release it from its bore. Don't loose the spring. Clean out the orifices. Reassemble with new o ring to the head. Stinking ethanol eats the rubber diaphragm and you can't find the bad spot looking for it with light passing through.

I have an old PSE. It's not fast by today's terms of speed bows. I've tried a couple different ways to increase speed in an effort to lessen drop of trajectory. My inability to assess distance over 25 yards in the woods was the driving force of my quest for flattening arrow flight. Obviously speed would help in that department. I have since learned you have to work with what the bow you have in your hand will give you. I tried lighter arrows and heads. I even tried an overdraw rest. Both increased speed but sacrificed other parameters. When both used together....wow. Fast as it could deliver...but ..loud, not consistent, and unforgiving on form. The overdraw was ok by itself, but it was the unforgiving on form part that was undesirable for hunting. Target yes but hunting no. As for arrow weight the overdraw effectively made a heavier wall shaft shorter and lighter. Good for me with the 31 inch draw. Good for kinetics too. I wanted more speed yet, so went carbon and dropped approximately 80 grains total arrow finished weight. Not much faster. About 10 fps. I have my own chronograph so I checked it. What I got was as much as that bow could do to lessen trajectory with speed on it's built in level. I hunted one season with that setup and was very unhappy with results on a buck. I got the deer in the freezer but not without 2 arrows of which did not pass thru. I since removed the overdraw that gave me significant speed increase but it lowered the effective brace height causing loss of consistent arrow launch in less than desirable form position. Actually went heavier shaft and an inch longer and back to heavy fixed blades. Told myself 25 yards or less, cause that's what the bow will do effectively with my poor trajectory assessment. It's not really "jarts" anyway...so I live now with 242 fps flat enough to 25 yards of pass thru shots from a 465 grain arrow driven quietly by 70 lbs at 31 inches. Beyond that is pushing the bows limits and my human error. I would much rather catch a fast baseball than a slow bowling ball in my hands....if ya know what I mean! Mark

Last night when picking up in the dark at 175 fow, the screen came alive with fish. All over the screen and appear to come from the depths below 150 feet. It was really awesome. There's fish out there, but it seems they are attached to the bottom in daylight. I was running my sounder on a zoom function at 100 to watch the level of my spread better and should have tried checking the bottom more in that range of water. This was straight out in front of port 175 fow. It's like the fish are staging in the ice water and just not active until the sun goes down. Still couldn't get a hit on the last two riggers I pulled after dark. -

Fished with my son Chris on Saturday and Sunday. Then fished with friend Lois on Monday. Saturday, Chris and I motored to the 130 fow in front of johnson creek and fiddled around for a few hours in the morning between 100 to 150 fow with no hits and ice water just 30 feet below the boat. It became 9 am and we went north from there to the 26.4 line where a few grab and rips happened on the meat in the chute running on a 300 copper. Then the outboard downrigger pops and it flies off to the races. I reel up some slack hand off to Chris and he begins a long battle with a mad king. I tried not to have all the lines back in the boat while he was fighting but this fish was all over the place and I was running a marathon of line pulling and throttle pushing as the fish was trying to out run the boat on a few occasions. Well all lines are in, the salmon stayed out from behind the boat for a good while and finally glided in for the net...very nice fish 26 lbs of king salmon hen. Came on a Mag spoon, ladder back green and black Michigan stinger with glow cup down 50. We had about 6 rip and tear on the copper now running 400 feet out with the twinkie meat. No solid hookup. Later in the day a 12 lb king came on a twinkie meat rig running on the probe rigger at 90 feet in the 26.8 line. The ice water was much further down out there than in the 100 to 150 fow ranges. Had 43 down there at 90 over 350. Sunday, not so good. Went back to the same numbers and the fish were scattered. Only managed one small steelhead all day. We tried out into 28 lines but the screen was pretty barren. We wrapped up a little earlier this day and we had family coming for the barbeque I had to get started on. Monday, Lois came to fish the afternoon. We went west into the waves and trolled from Johnson Creek back east in the 26 to 27 lines 6 rods all different presentations sent to the thermocline and below. Temp was reading 46 down 90 out there and there was a great screen. Lots of bait and lots of fish especially toward the end 9f the troll out front of port in 175 fow. After the sun went down the screen came alive. Very frustrating to see those fish appear seemingly out of nowhere and they would not commit to a strike. I watched many streak through the sets and nothing. We only managed a small steelhead on a spin doctor and fly off the dipsy out 175 on a 2.5. Nice evening though as the humidity trended downward and a nice breeze was from the south west.

Was good times for sure Andy! You guys are welcome to come and camp anytime! Watching the assembly of the charcoal grill was entertaining! Between my son and yours, and especially Jason they did an exceptional job of trying to avoid the directions..... any way I'm glad you got a good hot fire going in that thing to burn off the Chinese paint before cooking on it. Oh and hope your hand is healing ok! ...Fillet knife miscue.. ouch! We all had fun with stories of the day and days gone by. Even Ray K was a source of entertainment and he wasn't even there! Good times, and the yard was permeated with the smell of fine barbeque of chicken, venison, and bacon, as two charcoal grills were cranking out fine caveman style foods! I'll have a report for my son and I fishing, coming up soon..thanks for your report and fun Andy and crew!..Come on out any time my friends! Mark -
where are the salmon

Very true what is being said. I would add that over the past few years we humans have become much better predators as well. Advanced electronics, better intel, and open communication where and when it's peak time to fish. There have been many salmon caught in the 2 year class and that seems as if it will recover some by next season, but on the other hand those 2 year class fish became a lot of creel take. It could be a couple years yet before the high point of adult salmon come back. Some of it will, just by the fact of discouraged anglers not showing up on the lake as much. Also some of those anglers have been targeting other species. I think it will have a natural reset IF the stocking of pacifics continues to be peak output. Just some thoughts of mine...Mark -

I have done this but used a small section of power pro 30lb braid. Used an Albright knot on both ends. Works ok.
