  1. What a great story Les! Nice tribute to the king of the lake! That is one impressive fish and it's fight is relative to a nice male specimen as what it looks like there in your pics. Very stout and broad! Good for you guys, and a memorable outing! Love those anxious moments next to the boat!
  2. What Gill said is right on. Last Saturday they were 28.8 line north out of point breeze and they were busting the surface on bugs all around the boat. Find the big temp break somewhere out there. Gulls will sit in it, it will have junk in it, and it will appear slick that smells kinda fishy too. They aren't too fussy about bait. They took everything from dark spoons like 42 second to bright Moonshine like Crab face and hotlips and even meat on a 11 inch spindoctor running on copper out 350ft. Next day they were gone from there. Found them in the edge of the Niagara flow near 31.7 to 32.8 line. They are tightly schooled and will let ya know when you found them. Stick with the big temp break and work it weaving in and out of it with a little bit of speed above 2.6 down speed. Most action there was 55 to 70 down. There are some 2 year old kings cruising with them out there as well! Have fun good luck! Mark
  3. Yes...what Brian said! Especially in the early am. As day gets brighter a lot of times they may go to the comfort of the thermocline off shore more. Late afternoon they will move in before dark and start the hunt again. Where there's bait on the screen, low light, there is kings nearby even if it's warmer water.
  4. That was exciting, and even I feel whooped after reading that chaos! Lol...good work men!
  5. Mine got her fishing license..not because she wants or likes to fish. She wants me to have three more rods all to myself.^_^ Not sure how that works cause if she does go...she gets seasick by the end of the jetty... 100 yards from the launch dock:wacko::blink: However if she makes it all the way out to setup and the first fish is on the hook...the twenty questions start. "Ohhhh look!...it's jumping and struggling for its life" "Don't you think that hook is hurting it?" "How is it going to live with all that blood coming out" "Isn't it suffocating out of water...we can't breathe in water, how does it breath out of water?" I then say well..this is one for the grill and it's going in the box. As she is sitting on top of the cooler that now contains our fish dinner she has one more question. "How long do you think it will take for it to die"?....of course I offer some sympathy and tell her it's already dead by now..... About 30 seconds later she flies off the cooler and yells "it's still alive!..it's banging on the side of the cooler! Can we let it go now"? Ok..now I think I just been dupped by a PETA member!...she doesn't go much anymore...... I miss those three extra rods!
  6. Saturday. Even got on 200 lb rigger cable and jammed snap swivels. Helps if the fish are biting and ya gotta bring lines in more often. Lol! I think they even chase off fish where too heavy infested. Steelhead had them stuck on their gills! That's gotta be a bit ch! Like the LA basin on a clm summer day..pooey!
  7. Sadly I had to miss this year. Some of the best folks on the lake! Scott, Rob, Brian and everyone involved are immensely helpful! Nice win for Captain Jerry (also chaffuer)! A very helpful friend to have offering his time and space to accommodate me and my crew in the past events. Thank you Jerry again! The rest of the top ten..CONGRATULATIONS! Great boxes! Next year! Mark and team Stand & Deliver.. Point Breeze
  8. Beauty yes!
  9. Oh I forgot! Should we have free valet service? Courtesy of Rebel Redskins van...you know to the campground and weigh in? Jerry the chauffeur 😂
  10. Now that's funny right there!:blink::blink::p
  11. Throw the snubber. You don't need it. Are you using 30 lb braid to pull your dipsy? What broke exactly? Leader, knot?
  12. Down riggers are always the easiest. You can cheat them too for more lures in the water. I would choose a long copper if you wanted kings this time of year on a long line. If you only had a diver for the third rod then you could do that...but be sure the rod is a shorter version and a shorter leader from the dipsy. You will have your hands full trying to net with a dipsy fish. Copper or lead core can reel up closer and less drag on your rod arm trying to net. Also for your net, get one of those small clothes pin clips to keep your net up out of the water unlit under the fish. The drag of the net while trolling alone with one arm can mess you up bad. It will drag back and almost always catch your lure and not the fish.
  13. Diawa Seagate 60 will fit 600 ft of 30lb with 900 ft. 30 lb power pro. Nice fast reel. 149.95
  14. Nice job Rick. Wish I had gone more west now. Sunday was between Johnsons and Shadigee. Nothing stjll. lot of dead water out there for kings.
  15. Nice job Ray, but where ya gonna hang the next bear from on that fancy roof?
  16. I run DC voltage around .550 to .600 to all 3 riggers for a good field . When I notice on certain days the junk lines are getting whacked and the riggers are dead, I add a little juice. Sometimes it works...sometimes I think it does..
  17. Got a black box on my boat. Same kind of idea. I cam say that the phenomenon doesn't hurt. Have read that negative energy will spook fish off too.
  18. Jolly release works well too. Wire hoop end goes around the cable. Pinch the rod line into the pad so it can pull out of the pad to the rear. Snap swivel of cheater goes around the rod line just above or below the pad. Then pull the cheater leader into the pinch pad also. Then tighten thumb screw nut tight. It will hold the cheater in place. Fish can hit either lure and release from the pinch pad. The jolly then just falls to the ball and you retrieve it when you rerig.
  19. Also remember that Rick has a BIG boat. High freeboard and long handle nets. You adjust your cheater to what you can easily net. My boat is good with 8 ft. This is a deadly setup!
  20. No snubbed for me either. However..in the case of this thread.. It's gonna need one!... OHHHhhh SNAP!
  21. I keep telling everyone there is a Ness out there. Likes lead and wire. All kidding aside, that really sucks! I wonder if you encountered the thing some others have reported here. They say that there is something in 202 feet of water near 4 mile. Maybe the thing is moving. . We're you out of Wilson or Olcott? It doesn't show up on the sounder much I guess. Word of advise for your Scotty. Make sure you get the drag set proper in case that happens again, but if it snipped it off like you say maybe it wouldn't even matter.
  22. Could possibly be coming from above deck (rain) or wash down maybe, if nothing showing in the bilge area.

I can't find Stan's fishing forum on line anymore:o:(... Hope he is okay! Miss him for sure and we have talked on the phone about salmon fishing once. Still great having him here though. I don't even get to go to cali anymore with the big truck. I would have stopped off at pollard flat and sat for a spell with him. Man how things have changed in a few short years. Good luck Stan the Cali man! Check back with us once in a while. I think of you often. Hope you are well! I'll pm my cell # to ya. Mark
  24. Right, in the chute. On occasion I will run a shorter segment off the outriggers with a roller release, but I have had one copper break doing that. I think it was too rough on the water and the outriggers whip up and down a lot causing a lot of line slap. I think it got a kink there. I now only run those long coppers off the outriggers on short segments on calmer days. In the chute though, it works for a shorter copper just letting out the desired length on the paint markings.
