I think most of us like our panfish done with breading and deep fried in some fashion. Here is a great way to enjoy those little fillets in a cake kind of way either right on your plate or in a sandwich with mayo, lettuce and tomato! First get a medium pot of water warming on the stove. Leave room for fillets. Next add 30 fillets to the pot and bring the water to a slow boil. Stir them occasionally as the water slowly boils Yup! Sounds sacreligious...poached bluegills! But it gets better... After the fillets start to break apart as you stir they are done in the water. They smell like shrimp! Pour the meat in a colander and let cool and dry. Get them as dry as you can and place them in a large bowl where you can mix in some flavorings. I like Old Bay, powdered garlic, lemon pepper, powdered onion, parsley, chives, salt and pepper, and a few dashes of soy sauce. Mix it all in with a wooden spoon carefully so you don't break all the meat smaller than a quarter inch, some will flake. Use what ever you like to your taste. I can see the spices on the fish meat as a guide for me and I go more with Old Bay than the other spices. After all the spices are mixed in the meat, beat a large egg and add it to the bowl of meat. Mix it in and if you need one more egg it's ok, but don't saturate the meat, you want it to be tacky. Add Italian bread crumbs and stir it gently in until you can form cakes with it. Make them about 3/4 to an inch thick and then dust them with flour or shore lunch fish batter mix. If you have trouble forming cakes cause the mixture is too dry, add some olive oil to help. In a medium fry pan melt half stick of butter and olive oil enough to be about 1/4 inch deep and bring to 375 degrees. Fry the cakes about 3 to 4 minutes per side or until golden brown. Flip them gently so they don't break apart by using two wide plastic spatula flippers. Remove from pan onto a paper towel lined platter and let drain and absorb extra oil. Enjoy your bluegill cakes! New beast charcoal / gas / smoker/ side burner grill
skipper19 replied to skipper19's topic in Fish & Game Recipes
It still cooks great! Modified the fire box a little last year with a raise in the fire grate and now I can remove the ashes in the drawer without disturbing the fire. Just did some venison breakfast sausage and summer sausage smoked with Pecan wood. Excellent stuff. I had a large pork loin that I made into canadian bacon and that was WOW!..tooo good! Thanksgiving whole fresh turkey...beat the oven turkey to the empty platter race! So far the grill has had no failures but I keep it covered and inside the garage. A coat of spray cooking oil keeps her looking spiffy! Older pic of it doing some very tasty wings and western style pork ribs. -

Braid and dipsy divers
skipper19 replied to fish-on's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I will attest to the effectiveness of FIRELINE FUSED ORIGINAL in 30 lb test. Do not use the crystal brand ONLY fused original in 30. It is gray black in color. It WILL do as good as wire at repelling fleas. It will do almost as well in depth as wire. I like it cause you can do different things with it that you could never do with wire and a dipsey like run it as a slider down a rigger cable and Scotty release with a small diver as an out and down close to the boat and your rigger sets. I have outriggers and the braid is easy to run on them in the releases with out damage. If you want more depth run a dive bomb 1/4 to 1/3 up from the dipsy directly on the braid no damage. I run both equal time during fleas and the braid mostly only gets walnut sized gobs of fleas that rip off when aggressively pulled laterally in the water tension. The wire almost always collect more fleas in a finger thickness from the diver up to about 2 to 3 feet of wire from the diver. Mark -

Just don't eat the lead that killed the critter. Don't eat raw meat. Use fire to tender the flesh and kill pathogens. I don't try to eat crow unless my other half forces me to. USDA inspected at packing. Preserved, enhanced, colored, cryopacked.... Warehoused, trucked, Warehoused again, trucked again, stored for sale. Refrigeration non stop? Maybe. USDA stamped how long ago? Ok okay eat vegetables...wait..😞where did they come from? 😔 Never saw a wild critter suffer with steroids growing faster than it's metabolism can handle. Unless it's Kobe beef. 25 bucks a pound. Because it's better for ya! Just like deer about the same per pound...like the Salmon we catch. Ugh..now I got cabin fever! Its contagious!

Same thing...only this was at 2am with willy weaver coming from curlys. Left the road at approximately 70mph through my garage and wiped out all my stored hand made furniture from my senior wood shop class of 1974. Happened last year. Lost forever. I feel your anguish and belong to the same club....

My only complaint was the neighbors thought they were cute..they are not sportsmen or hunters thats why i say "cute". So then they wouldn't feed regular enough to keep the deer in their backyard. What happens next is they became habituated and when the feed was not kept regularly they wiuld browse my shrubs at the front of my house. Those same people came like street inspectors and crabbed about my yard looking shabby. Closer inspection revealed deer browse damage. I was the topic of discussion at my village "elites" board meeting. Do something about it so I CALLED the DEC and had them speak to the council and mayor. Don't do it in a village full of elitist jerks!
