Glad to hear the good news! Perfect ending for compassionate humans! Cent frum my notso smart fone -
I don't live in the catskills anymore, no more mountain climbing and walking 2 miles back into some thick Swamp in the hollow of a mountain top. I used to stay out there miles from my truck until 4:30 p and sometimes shoot whatever had horns on it just as the sun sat on the far ridge. Then drag and emerge from the woods to think the toil was over, alas to find another 500 yards across the fields to the truck...and its 9pm. No one worried to much about me, it was normal, and I was strong and younger than today. It was a challenge fulfilled to get that buck no matter what the rack was. I hated coming home empty handed. Now I'm a flat lander, better for my heavier, not so able body as once. I had to get used to not walking like before into the woods for miles, because I'd walk right out the other side into another field! It took me a while to get used to western NY hunting. I used to never hunt from a stand cause in the mountains my stand was a rock, or ledge, or a bank above the down slope. Last year my knees gave me some trouble for the first time. I was glad to think about all the mountain climbing I don't do any more. Now if I'm out in the woods past dark, people who love me will get worried that something could be wrong and call someone to check on me. Never had that before, but 40 years later I understand their concerns a good bit better, but I still get a sense of nothing to worry about..As my mind fights the body for dominance! Heck, now I even warn certain young deer passing my stand, not to go out in that field on the first day of gun season. ..that guy over in the hedge row will shoot you!..and feel better about that than getting that deer for the freezer...amazing what years have done. Hope I'm here to see my grandson emulate my younger days so I can keep the will to go out 20 years from now. Hunt safe my friends! Thank you Andy, for helping me realize I'm not the only one.. good luck to you and your family as you pursue life's relevance in the outdoors over the fruits of the chase. Lost "Mission" bow-Stueben county----RETURNED!

Sure hope he gets that bow back...i once got side tracked, left my bow in its case on the back corner of the box on my pickup, drove a ways down the road and lucky for me I heard it hit the road and slide. Case was scuffed up but bow was ok. Hard to believe how these things happen but I know they do, and he must feel sick about how it happened. Hope it comes back to his hands. It's a big diesel engine, runs 95% of the time between 1200 and 1500 rpm, but my 2007 Caterpillar has almost 30,000 hours on it with Shell Rotella. I've used it for over 25 years. Cent frum my notso smart fone

Vehicle break in stuff stolen Oakfield
skipper19 replied to skipper19's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I know no one here would want to break into a vehicle right? but if you lock your keys in the vehicle you can get the door open this way if you have the vertical posts inside by the window. The reason this was done to break in and steal the aforementioned goods is the evidence was left behind. A piece of milk jug and floss string. The plastic jug piece wedges in the corner of the door seal then the Floss with a loop tied in it is worked behind the plastic pass the door seal and sawed back and forth down inside. The loop is worked over the knob and pulled up when it nooses the knob to unlock the door. Even a smooth knob is vulnerable if it sticks above the door sill very much. Skill game but it can get your keys back. Cent frum my notso smart fone -

Cuomo to sign SAFE ACT 2 if re-elected. We Better get out and VOTE!
skipper19 replied to DJ 17's topic in Big / Small Game
The ad is running in NYC only where they already have archaic gun control. Like any of them are going to care in their world. Like I said, maybe 10% of them will stay home due to same old same old...Hope they do while 10% more upstate get off their couch and swing the vote in favor of upstate for once. Maybe some Dems who own those banned firearms would like to have their liberties back by 5%..and Howie might take another 5%..make Cuomo loose 30% and he's gone.. Cent frum my notso smart fone -

Those rules were like telling us we could only have 7 rounds in our legally owned firearm and the criminals too...riiight! I had friends who put the X in the tip of fmj 5.56 to even the so called playing field with sub humans who could care less about rules. Anyway. ..sigh...Matt you will find the right load and if your looking for sub minute of angle you will need a specific hand load to consistently do that. You should be able to get 5 rounds under an inch probably two at 100 yards with a factory load and that will be the best you can do from the shelf. Cent frum my notso smart fone

I know that it seems your vote doesn't count but in the end it does. You aren't going to get the NRA to defend your rights here in NY. They have decided that NY is a lost cause and took a wait and see attitude. If you really want to impress that organization you will have to do it on your own with all the other citizens of NEW YORK STATE!...VOTE to take the head off the snake and show the nation that NY is not going to lay down. The NRA has no interest in helping on a state level. If they did they would have sent more than the paltry 1000 dollars to Astorino's campaign. I sent my dues to NRA directly to Astorino because of that. The NRA will only step in on a federal level if YOU, ME, AND ALL who "get it" DO NOTsit by and let king Andy win and move to the white house. The NRA has an arm in NY and it is the NYSRPA. Those folks have had their day in court and found the rest of the snake. Cut the head off and vote for your rights and you will then get national attention with the NRA, but you and me and all have to do the grass roots effort. Mark Cent frum my notso smart fone -
Be aware..If you live around Oakfield there were 8 vehicles broken into and goods stolen a couple nights ago. One was my friend's son's pickup that was locked in the driveway and lost 1400 dollars of sporting goods. They use the Floss method of unlocking the door. 10 seconds and in ..no sound, no broken glass. Shade your windows and it can't be done so easily if you have post type locks. Factory loads can get expensive quick trying to find an accurate load that has the terminal performance your looking for. Do you know anyone who can hand load for you and get the custom load that works with the style bullet you want to use, as for deer and bear in a pointed soft point or round nose 150 or 180 grain like Sierra or Barnes and Winchester could offer? Many times accuracy has to do with the case length and bullet seat dimensions for a particular bullet and it's weight. If one were to take that rifle and measure it for throat and bullet contact with the rifling you could get a custom hunting round that will outperform any factory round in accuracy for THAT rifle and have a bullet design that works for your hunting situation and game animal. It's a bit of trial and error and needs to be worked up in 5 round lots until that load is found. I "smoke" a bullet I want to use with candle soot that is high seated in a non charged case of correct dimension of brass length. Then chamber it and examine the soot for rifling contact. I keep adjusting the seating die until I can only just see the soot scratches from the rifling. Then back the seat deeper about 1/8 turn or until the scratching is very very minute on the ogive of the bullet. There is where accuracy comes from with any particular loaded round. A bullet that engages rifling without a jump in the throat on launch, will be the most accurate. However it will need to be monitored for pressure signs like primer backing or cratered, hard ejection etc. Too much rifling contact and you raise pressure even on a mild or moderate load concoction. In my travels across the country I have noticed pockets of intense activity along the highways. Not large pockets but areas where the terrain and habitat are good for deer which is not unusual but not all the areas are active. For instance, along the I 90 from Saratoga to Chicago last night. I drive during hours 3 am to 3pm, Cher teams with me at the other 12 hour shift. Here's what we notice from the road. The thru way has had its share of deer carcasses and smear marks in the road, also a lot of standing feeding deer along the shoulder. As you can imagine, we drive with eyes wide open at the dark hours and see most of the animals...except for the ones that are on a dead run into the road. In comparison last night to Buffalo. The city deer got slaughtered on 90 in the city limits. 4 were on the westbound side between the toll booths. Then a huge slaughter according to Cher as she described dozens to about Erie Pa. Then again in Ohio as she described SCARY BAD slaughter and lost count before Cleveland, and she slowed down even more! Lol... then it was like there was no activity west of Cleveland and I took the helm at 3:30 am at Indiana. Weirdly there was no deer activities and no slaughtered carcasses through Indiana and there are 100s of deer in many fields feeding all the time. I did notice in western Indiana, a 150s buck two days ago that was just at dusk and he had the familiar posture of a buck on the hunt. Head high, looking left and right over the shoulders, and not feeding, nose whipping up in sample. Illinois has had lots of activities along I57 many slaughtered each trip through for the past 2 weeks. Some Kentucky deer getting hit but not many. Tennessee on south to Georgia has been pretty quiet so far. Missouri has been moderate in deer smeared but one night there were many in a small stretch and a few trucks busted radiators on the shoulder. Oklahoma has had a few hits. Right now it is NY Buffalo to Pa. With Ohio along the I 90 that has been very bad for deer crashes. Last night was worse than any so far. I'm still offering free fender rides and gaining 88 FPS on your arrows velocity! Or maybe 60 ish FPS.... We get slower as the season progresses Lol! Cent frum my notso smart fone

Cuomo to sign SAFE ACT 2 if re-elected. We Better get out and VOTE!
skipper19 replied to DJ 17's topic in Big / Small Game
That's the problem many scream injustice from the mountain tops whilst they sat on their azz and did nothing to prevent it Well that is true and Democrats outweigh Republican in population 2 to 1. However Democrats only garnered 60 ish% over Republican 40ish vote in previous elections. NYC holds the highest population of Dems in the entire state and they don't historically comand the highest voter turnout of the party. So they are resting on their laurels more than upstate has been. They don't see any threat, so why bother themselves. They rely upon their numbers and complacency in my opinion. They say ahh who cares about gun control. ..same old...We already have that here in the city. Maybe 10% more Dems will stay home...maybe 10 % more Republican will vote...maybe 5% Dems will swing cause they are not so happy. ..finally maybe 5% Cuomo would be votes go to another party candidate. Bottom line 30% less for Cuomo and he loses... It all depends on whose values got stepped on worse. Upstate or NYC. I think we know the 12 to 16 year pendulum is at the apex. Astorino is probably not the best fielding for Republican but certainly he isn't what we have now. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile appCent frum my notso smart fone
