  10. Short copper 150 or 200 stacked on an out down cable. Backing in a scotty pinch stacker. Never in the way and the added lead is just the ball you already are using on a downrigger..comes off all by itself too!. Needs nothing attached to the copper to get it out of the way. Drop the rigger deep when fish are on another line provided there is enough FOW. ..carries the copper down out of the way still running (maybe to reveal a surprise hit) until the fish is in the boat. Pop the stacked copper if its on the common down rigger that the fish took the ball bait and let it ride up through the water column for a second tailgunner hit...ya gotta bring the ball up to reset anyway and remove the stacker clip...If not on the common rigger the fish took, then just bring it back up to original depth and bend the rods over again. Short coppers are great and more flexible than the long ones in ways of deep running long Lines. Lighter copper too...30 lb or 32 lb instead of the winch cable 45 or 60! Kids and the ladies even like it! Only if ya don't mind stacking...but still way less trouble than hauling it in with break neck speed or attached accessories to maybe lose to Neptune's treasures. Nothing extra...just a scotty clamp on pinch pad stacker. Long coppers seldom get used until mid to late season but short ones can reach any depth any time and find more water time than any other coppers in my arsenal. I have 2 brand new diawa seagate 60s ready to load long coppers on but they are still in the box till lady O sets up deep thermals. No hurry..but those shorties are running everywhere right now! cent frum my notso smart fone

  12. Try a little offshore..browns have slowed a bit and are picked over pretty good. Should see some salmon out there according to reports...looks promising! See what 120 or more fow reveals. Look for bait pods and scum line..temp breaks and color. Lots of various information to equation along with speed. cent frum my notso smart fone

  15. Yes depending on the part of the lake you are in...often a 330 heading is good in the Oak area to Olcott. Further west gets stronger current running east from Niagara. Where do you fish the lake?cent frum my notso smart fone
  16. Trolling east west will give the largest variations SOG to down speed. More matching would be a north south direction or angle. Your fishing equipment will give you indicators. I watch for several features of "near" correct speed and compare that with gps. Downrigger will have steady whine on cables. Cable will pull bubbles that follows down under the surface about a foot. Diver rods will have a pronounced curve with the tip pointed in direction of line exit. Set drag just enough to stop line creep at the intended speed. If it clicks out later on..current has changed..or you are traveling faster due to wind, current, waves etc....check your gps. GPS starting at 2.5 to 2.7 good to start. Do that north as you set up then go east west and see the difference in the above indicators. Mostly check action of lures at the boat. Run lures that match your speed in your spread. IE. .don't mix light fluttering spoons with heavier spoons like NK. Target a speed and match lures to it. Hope this helps. It's never an exact science but when you have successfully fooled the fish you intend to be your target. ... Repeatability is key. Mark cent frum my notso smart fone

  18. Ok I thought you were talking about rigger rods.. well I wasn't aware that you were pulling dipsy with that but most of us just go straight to the dipsy with main wire or braid and don't put anything between braid or Wire before the dipsy except a large snap swivel to hook the dipsy on. What ever you are comfortable with and it works to save tackle, then by all means use it, but the little spro really won't make any knot stronger in connection with it. It will help with line twist as you mentioned however and that is a good thing. All knots are only good when tied proper and with patience. No knots should be trusted from season to season and less trusted and retied when money fishing. Swivels are something that are overlooked for wear and are tough to call worn out...and in that case toss it away even harder. I've had more failures of snap swivel than knots. They all wear over time.. best brand names as well. The Albright if tied property is a double back style knot.. yes relying on compression where two strands exit each end of the knot. You take the larger line or Wire and double it back on itself in a parallel leg loop then you lay the thinner line in parallel through the legs straight with bitter end up from U in the loop. Then double itself back down the two legs winding itself over the two legs 15 to 18 turns (braid) 6 to 8 mono...and the bitter end goes back through the loop. When it is tightened all winds come to lay behind each other and now you have the bitter end to secure with a couple half hitches if preferred to lock it. It's not an easy knot to do under pressure or numb fingers but it does have double strands in the heavy loop and the windings back over the whole knot to finish. http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php?LogoImage Much easier is the slim beauty knot and just as strong for joining two lines. Very compact when done and similar to a Bimini twist with out needing 4 arms and 40 fingers to form it. http://www.animatedknots.com/slimbeauty/ cent frum my notso smart fone
  19. What two knots with the spro do you use [instead of one knot without] that do not fail with the one pass single strand on each end of the 1/16 inch eye of the spro. Mono to braid double back style knots tied once... But if a knot failure is gonna happen. .might as well double the chance and loose an extra .65 cents with the 22 dollar f/f rig. cent frum my notso smart fone

  21. The part about joining two lines involves tying a knot suited to the task. dissimilar lines of size or materials always involves tying it. Adding a microscopic hardware is no advantage. ..In fact less! Not to mention expensive in that case. As mentioned uni to uni or slim beauty or Albright or one of my favorites , the perfection loop that facilitates easy leader changes without cutting line and re tie knots. cent frum my notso smart fone

  23. Check on some refurbished electronics. Turtle marine I believe has a lot of refurbished models from all kinds of manufacturers. Fact is I have one from Raymarine. Works fine and though it is a discontinued model, it was about one quarter the price of new on the shelf. cent frum my notso smart fone
