New beast charcoal / gas / smoker/ side burner grill
skipper19 replied to skipper19's topic in Fish & Game Recipes
5 racks of salmon Beer can chicken and ribs Beer can chickens & pork butt Ribs and more ribs Dragon tongue...AKA beef brisket Countless wings, thick cut pork chops, venison chops, cowboy steaks, weiners and sausages! I keep it in my shop, even while cooking. It is still in great shape other than some finish burned off the fire box. It can be repainted, but I keep it coated all over with spray cooking oil, and it has no rust. My shop smells like a bbq shack! Much better than the oil and grease mechanic smell..LOL! Well...that's my update! A year and a half old! Oops Still love the thing! Mark Sent from my PC36100 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Been doing a little surfing around and looked at the Elite (one I hadn't considered til now) some good reviews, actually like the Energy 35 over the Tour for the AtA and the IBO was decent. It can go to 31 inch which will fully load the limbs for max power. Not sure what the let off is..guessing 80%? I will check it out in hand at Traditions as suggested..thanks Camomanbg! The Mathews Z9 certainly would fit me, thanks Gene!.. great reviews, guys saying they wouldn't trade it for anything and such. Amazingly it has only 30 inches AtA, seems it might have a very steep angle on the string at full draw, but maybe the longer parallel limbs and the brace height compensate that. 80% letoff..It's just a bit slow at 312 IBO. I'm looking to launch logs of 460 to 500 gr. or more at a speed that can keep down the rainbow trajectory I already have with my old 305 IBO Inferno. I suck at ranging in the woods for some reason, so I'm trying to hopefully give myself a little wiggle room on the poor distance judging thing. I know the distance to my targets if they stand still, but I missed a nice buck 2 years ago because he was moving and stopping and moving quickly again. Needless to say he out maneuvers my predetermined laser sighted trees and rocks and logs with confusion!...so I missed by 5 yards of judgement over his shoulder. I went to lighter carbons to shoot missiles and got a lesson in how a bow is supposed to work with enough preload of projectile. Long story short it doesn't digest arrows less than 420 grains with any regularity. So still looking for some power to launch logs and stay relatively flat shooting out to 30 yards and not be objectionable drop at 40. The Martin bows were intresting to me, I found they were not as good in reviews. The rytera line seems ok but I need to try a draw cycle and shoot a bow before I can condemn one for a poor review. PSE makes a bow called the freak...Hmmmmm..maybe, I might just be one. It goes all the way to 33 inches. One review said it launches 515 grain arrows at 297 fps through a chrono!..maybe at 80 lbs draw I guess. 38 inches AtA is another very long bow. Well keep some more coming if you have experience with newer bows that have the draw of at least 31 inches. I probably measure more toward 32 but I have made my old bow more comfortable by lengthening my mechanical release and did have a loop installed for a little extra, but I couldn't get it to work with my bow as for some reason it pinched the nock and lifted the arrow off the rest at full draw. Maybe it is the steep angle on the string, I don't know but I know the shorter the AtA is on these modern short speed bows it will not work for a draw lengthening device very well. Almost all speed bows end at 30 inches draw today. Some are 30.5.. Maybe that could work but I don't want to be cramped or put any more length on my release...keep them coming guys! I'm open and looking. If you got favorite pro shops to recommend, please do so. I am between Rochester and Buffalo so I can go either way to try some BIG bows..Thanks guys Mark Sent from my PC36100 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

okay I've been hunting with a PSE that dates back to 1996 ...yeah I know I'm like Arnold Schwarzenegger using the bow made from a tree to shoot the predator with...LOL! I'm tall, wide, have a wide wingspan and I drag my knuckles, so I'm looking for a bow that seems to be only about 5 percent of the market..a 31 inch draw or longer. Some of you archers out there are giants... what do you use, what brand, what bow do you recommend pros/cons... cuz I'm in the market for an upgrade. thanks Mark Sent from my PC36100 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Reminds me of my first hunt with my daughter Amanda when she was 6. We were rifle hunting the catskill mountains on my friends farm. Just got sat down and I reminded her we need to be quiet now, and then 30 minutes later the crunch crunch of leaves starts getting louder and closer. She said I hear something, and I said sounds like a deer. She said I see it! I said, Yup, its a buck coming. I look and she has her ears covered already..haha!..then boom goes the 30.06 and the buck ran down hill just out of sight through the trees. She said did ya git it?..Yup..we gotta track it, but not far. I knew it fell only 50 yards from the shot. I let her do the same as you! Track the deer as I made like I couldn't find blood and she got all excited telling me over here dad!..I can smell it too! It was fun watching her go spot to spot with enthusiastic here's some more! She is a 28 year old daughter and vet tech today who still loves hunting and never stops thinking of that first day hunting with dad. We still get chances to hunt together, and each time we relive the first. Congrates on a successful hunt, and a great teaching moment for your son!..you will remember the day for years to come...trust me...I know! Thanks for bringing my memory forward again on a special time like yours and your young hunter! Mark Sent from my PC36100 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Being the season for hunting deer with your stick and string, I figure there are a lot of bow hunters getting their equipment "dialed in" on targets and such. Often as your groups tighten and you fire arrows at a bulls eye you get arrows contacting each other and can cause damage to the shaft, or nock. It's a kind of damage that can be overlooked and have a dangerous side effect. I try to get targets that have multiple bulls on them for sighting in and group analysis so each arrow can be fired at it's own target bull. If you must fire arrows at the same bull, limit the number of arrows shot in succession, and be aware of the telltale "click" sound of an arrow contacting another already in the target. I have had a nock get destroyed this year, although readily noticeable, I was reminded that maybe I should check the shaft with the bend test. I found no other damage but could have easily just replaced the nock and kept shooting the same shaft. A little info, and some shock of reality to keep it front and center! http://www.huntersfriend.com/arrow-safety-warning.html Shoot safe and healthy my friends! Good luck this season, and don't fall out of your tree either! We like to read success, not distress! Mark

Never saw a corporation walk into a firearms shop in the USA, but I have seen a person do that, and have to go through the background check in order to walk out with it in hand....not the same thing even if a person with the title of supreme court justice says so. Never saw a corporate business walk, have hands, or vote, or shoot a firearm....just a human, person. cent frum my knotso smart fone...

Cuomo signs law requiring boating safety courses
skipper19 replied to L&M's topic in Open Lake Discussion
The safety course will help with knowing the equipment needed to help save lives and how to store and use it on a boat. Maybe it Will teach some new and young boaters the rules of the waterways too. But...in the two incidents cited above where two different boats on two different bodies of water had fatalities as a result of turning over or crashing into concrete structure, none of what I just said about the course will change the cause. That cause was distraction. No course will teach that to anyone without common sence enough to pay attention to course and surroundings. Same thing on the road, but maybe even worse in a boat with many different electronic devices to monitor, or not, in the case of auto pilot. Those two accidents still would have happened sorry to say.. course or no course of safety lessons. Distracted driving on a boat is the same as in a car, train, plane, or what ever conveyance one chooses to travel faster with, than the human body was designed for. Water adds an obvious different element to the dangers, and that needs to be taught more than anything for survival in any emergency. In the end it will save some folks, but not all in the case of ignorance. It's on the road, and it will be in the water too. cent frum my knotso smart fone... -

Yes Tim! Not so many as Olcott, and out from the shallows more. Thanks for reminding me. Also assuming, that the OP has only the rods and lures without planner boards, you could use some in line planners to be more stealthy in shallow. If not.. use a S pattern of troll to help keep your lures more off sides of the boat wake so as not to spook those wary browns.Sent from my PC36100 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Early spring at the oak is hit and miss with kings, your best bet is brown trout from late February right to end of May, weather permitting. Troll flatline Rapala, yozuri, rebel style plugs or small spoons in 8 to 15 fow. Browns will be in the edges of colored water, and prefer warmer temp breaks if you have a surface temp guage. Calm water is usually best, and be very quiet in shallows. I have taken kings in mid may off point breeze but the majority are following the bait in the warmer waters of the Niagara bar west. Haywire Out for the year
skipper19 replied to Kooter469's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
It was a hoot meeting you too, koot! I would never have known you were nearby, without the mention of your boat "Haywire" on this forum. Amazing how adding up the names, pictures, and personalities, on a forum can put folks together like they already know them. I even know Beers!... Kinda.. LOL! Definitely know all of you are all about having fun. The forum is not just about fishing! Don't go away entirely until next spring! We wanna see those hunting adventures too! You do a great favor in your stories and posts for folks who can't get out on their own. It's like waiting for your favorite sports magazine to come each month! Take care, be safe and well to you and all your friends and family! Mark cent frum my knotso smart fone.. -
