  3. Nice pic!..great job finding some coho,..and a dry spot in the sky! Mark
  4. Holy crap!...Tim, glad you and everyone and the boat are ok! It's amazing the things that can go wrong...after...you are out and fishing.Folks,,, There are so many ways the lake can get in the bilge on a larger inboard boat. Scuppers, raw water washdown, bait circulators, water intake for engine, overboard drains for fish boxes, drain plugs, transom fasteners. Just to name a few...they are all connected by hoses, pipes, shutoff cocks, clamps, some sealants that crack, and they lead from inside your boat to the lake directly. They all can fail at any time. Rubber hoses rot, clamps break, all can lead to trouble. Even when inspecting out of water everything can seem a ok but pressures change when the boat is loaded and displacing more water and things can break under those pressures. Good thing you know the normal sound and operation of your boat so you knew there was a problem in time Tim! Nice fishing by the way..don't let the bad "dampen" your enthusiasm! Mark
  5. "Noticed that the reason it looks like Dustins hood is cinched up is because when he lifted the fish for the picture his hood strings caught in the salmons mouth...lol."Yeah! I saw that too!...that salmon didn't want to let go of him..said I'm gonna pull your strings some more! Haa ha! Stan I wish I was still running out to Calif....I would love to spend a day in your water out there! Happy Fathers day everyone! Mark
  6. Bait was a little scarce..there was long areas of scattered bait like four boat length or more. There was nothing marking below 75 feet. That was in the 200 to 125 fow. Out deeper was worse picture. Color of the water was a brown greenish everywhere. Lots of sticks and stuff, water getting a little high. All in general there was less bait than usual, but we never went to the red can where things may have been different. 6 miles from the can mostly. Mark
  7. Good report from the east side of port. Gotta be a shocker when a salmon comes into your face next to the boat after a lure. Had that before with northern pike. Tends ta make ya jerk the bait right outta their mouth! LOL!
  8. Since the water out of Point Breeze was still iffy with the cold temps and mixed pockets of color, my friend Tom (tcon) and his son Dustin decided to give the western coast a try. Temps looked like they split around the golden hill area and as we went down rte 18 the fog cleared giving evidence that was the case as well. Wilson was sunny at launch time. Light winds, and went west on 330 heading to 130 fow. Screen looked good in the 30 to 60 range so dropped the first rigger to 30 and turned to get another rod a off it goes in about 30 seconds. Dustin reels the first fish of the day, a nice eater coho with a moonshine hot lips in its face. Put it back down, same thing again only its Atlantic! First ten minutes two fish in the boat with one rod! Went north, action ran out after 160 fow. Looking for kings now, and finally got more than one rod in the water, now we have 7 and its a slow boat ride. A couple hours goes by and not a rod is moving. Moved to 400 fow, good color but no luck...yet...with kings. Time for a change of baits. Pulled the 300 copper and put out a twinkie teaser and dream weaver bait head with Familiar Bite. Large spin doctor in sea sick waddler whipping it wildly. It was the turn on needed. It took a couple of bumps along the trip for 30 minutes. Checking the bait, we found the second bump tore off a hunk of meat and left incriminating teeth marks in the skin. Changed the meat. Now it gets hammered! Hookup! Tom grabs the rod and has what appears to be a bulldog tugging on a rag. Yank yank yank...then runs off yanking again. We thought gotta be a big one but turns out to be about 14 lbs king. Huge lamprey on it. Now we get another bait change and Tom throws down a big yozuri stick off a 30 rigger. It gets a nice coho. Another coho 60 down on a protroll and hawg wild fly. Then the 125 diver on 2.5 with a spin doc and nbk fly goes screaming off and Dustin is on the big 10 foot rod with a true battle on his hands. After some tense moments at the side and back of the boat with a 22 lb king trying every trick at last effort to get away, we finnaly get him in the net. Great job for the young man with a big rod and fish! A great day on the water with friends! Many hits, 7 to the boat, and sunburned smiles Mark
  9. I have used a 9 inch and 10 inch blade for years and thought I needed 11 or more....not anymore, I do any size salmon with a 6 or seven inch blade. Way more boneless meat than hogging off a side in one swipe, and a nearly see through skeleton when done. It is a method I have adopted from fillets of flounder I have done before. Never thought it could be that easy with only a 7 inch shrade fillet knife. It is a little more time-consuming, (about 3 minutes per side) but it is the best tribute to the slain kings I can give for saving as much as possible, and eating its fleshy goodness. Mark
  10. Went west of port a bit and out to 200 fow to set up with friend Joe along. We ran five rods in the beginning looking for something to set up on and the screen was still bleak. A couple of swirls on the surface brought out the 6 th rod to run a flat line off the out rigger with a big yozuri stick 150 feet back. It produced lake trout a couple times. Nothing over 8 lbs. High divers out 50 on 3 brought the same with spin docs and flies. One king 18 lbs took the diver set 175 on 2.5 with a spin doc and frenchy fly. Nice run out to 612 feet before giving up. A double came with it on a moonshine rv hotlips spoon on the 20 rigger, it being another small Laker. Was a nice smooth ride, and very comfortable day with a long slow boat ride most of the time. The fish were tightly poded and required a pass through to get more action. Moving on was a new hunt. The lake is still transitioning, with many pockets of color and temp changes in the 100 to 200 foot range out in the 300 to 450 there was little color and still a lot of junk floating everywhere. Be careful on your runs off shore. Some big logs are anyplace out there. Mark Joe & king
  11. Nice! Thanks for the positive report. Things may be coming back a bit...we hope!
  12. Glad to see you at the winning circle Rich! Great job finding the fish on the Point...Sunday was really close to the fence, as I learned as well..WTG Yankee team! Mark
  13. Wow Brian!...after all that misfortune, you are still able to get it done. Great job! What happened in the house? We just installed a BIG fire detection systems in our home. Glad you were able to detect it quick at that hour. Hope its an easy fix. Mark
  14. 7 am my son and I decided to try the waters off Point Breeze and checked the shore for color after the rainy weather we had, found it , and thought for a moment about brownies, but then dcided to go for salmon.....should a did brownies. Checked the screen east of port all the way out to 32 lines and found the screen like the drive-in in January. Trolled 6 rods flasher flies..spoons..20 down..all over the place to 70 down. Divers out on 3 settings and 50 to 180 out...nothing moved all day until 2:30 when we were in 90 fow and a diver out 50 on three pulling 42 second flasher and a nbk fly grabbed a Laker about 8 lbs. All day the fish we did see in the screen were streaking from 20 feet under the boat straight through the rigger sets to the deep. Totally non aggressive. Hope the lake sets up next time better. Lots of junk floating out there today. Next time! Mark
  15. I had 4, now I have a spare for quick replacement. The base is still on the transom for extra rod holders to switch rods to when clearing for the net. Three is enough for me and stacking the outboard riggers with small directional dipseys known as down and outs gives me the ability to Target deep water kings with four lures right up behind the boat with four rods. The center rigger can run higher or lower in the set and if the deep riggers are taking fish I'll send it short lead 15 feet with a spoon to the deepest of the set with a fixed cheater 8 to 12 feet above the ball mupp style with a flashy mag spoon. Now there is 6 offerings for deep kings right behind the boat on five rods without too much fuss. The fourth rigger I had was just too much in the way on an outboard powered boat with a kicker. Lost a ball once due to rough water swinging the ball in the water just under the surface at the same time the outboard was correcting course and the prop clipped it off. Now the option to run divers or junk lines is open for what ever else may be in play, topwater steelies or whatever. Noise is a factor with cables....sometimes less is more. There are days the riggers are dead..fish are turned off, doesn't matter if you have three or four or 10... they are negative fish. When it is hot fishing the fish are aggressive...you can't use more than you can keep in the water and usually adding more lines leads to more fubarred line and missed fish. I like three riggers for now. Mark
  16. I'll have to remember that Bob! Cher complains the dish washer is full and then she fills it twice...pots pans, spoons , mixing bowls... Counter covered in zip lock bags, wrappers, sink smells like a bait bucket..huh? ...oh well!
  17. Great fish Brian and crew! That's a beauty! Nice report.. Mark
  18. Wtg to Rick and team! Looking forward to the play by play! Mark
  19. Growing like a weed..25 lbs already. My daughter Amanda is a vet tech who is playing with Katie. She said she is very healthy. Still learning about the house breaking yet....and the cats, LOL!
  20. Thanks Stan! Your right about the log book. I like line 1 the best these days, specialy when fishin with family and friends And no roads to follow! Good to hear from ya Stan,..from the land the sun rises first, my truckin brother! Mark
  21. Great job Rick!, we saw you out there later in the afternoon. You circled around behind us as we were picking up for the day. We had a fun day out there and looks like your program was exactly the same as ours! We got bounced around pretty good until that wind switched to west. My daughters knees have bruises from bracing against the transom live well. My knee caps are much looser now as well from the bolstering pads..LOL.! Same as you on the fish coming unbuttoned with that rough water, we had 9 fish in a row slip away before the net could have them. . Mark
  22. Thanks men! It was a good time, yes Nick, you did leave some kings for the rest of us...thankyou..hahaha!
  23. That's a good time for sure, when 1 hour makes the whole day and a lifetime memory..wtg!
  24. I finally got to splash the Stand & Deliver on Sunday. My daughter Amanda, her boyfriend Dan, and our friend Robert came along and we pulled out of the port at 7:30 am. We were greeted with 3 footers in the pierheads before even getting to the lake. Stiff northwest wind had the lake a little angry, but we managed to run straight into the 3 to 5 waves without getting too wet and after hitting 300 fow, the waves settled a bit and headed west toward the bar. Never made it to the bar when there was a distict color change in the water and decided to start fishing about 5 miles from the red can, and trolled southeast with the wind to set up. Not long after we hit 190 fow we began to pick away at kings but the fish had better odds than we did for the morning as they would come unbuttoned after some good fights with two getting off right at the boat. 9 hits and no fish in the boat was frustrating, but after we hit the afternoon hours the lake settled down with wind switching to the west and calming a bit, we were able to finally put 5 nice kings in the box ranging 12 lbs up to 18. We ran just 6 rods and that gave s steady action on fish in the morning at 60 to 70 feet down on everything we put out. Riggers with spoons in green and seasick waddler along with a 300 copper flasher hawg wild fly combo then a green crinkle fly after the hawg got fubarred by an angry king. The wire divers were collecting kings hits with regularity on flasher flys in green. Diver settings on .5 out 180 were good in the morning. As afternoon came on the fish went deeper to 110 120 and a readjustment to the riggers to those depths instantly produced our biggest fish of the day, divers now put out at 315 gave Amanda a screaming run out to nearly 700 feet before stopping to bulldog all the way to the boat for 30 minutes. She did a great job all on her own with this stubborn fish that stayed 300 feet away for a long time with a give and take battle of line. Finally in the boat was the biggest of the day king for Amanda. We stayed in that general area about midway between port and the bar and took 5 fish to the boat out of 15 hits in 170 to 190 fow for a steady pick all day. The boat ran well except for a couple of minor annoyances, the ez steer wouldn't lock in position on the kicker. Couldn't steer with it so used the 225 to troll with most of the day. And the Windows in the Scotty riggers need polishing to see through them. Other than that, all good.
  25. Jerry, I am still indebted to you buddy!..not only shuttle service but a place ta park my boat and even a slip in the marina right next to the Rebel! Class man...class! You da man!Mark
