Ethanol decision expected after election day
skipper19 replied to jimski2's topic in Open Lake Discussion
So much for the "renewable energy" hype...can't renew crops during a drought season...duh! Maybe the corn off the cob shouldn't have been used at a rate of 40% for fuel. It's nice that they are exploring other bases that we don't eat for the fuel but I still an not a fan of trading one volitile energy source for another. Natural gas burned to make biomass fuels still makes oxides..anything burned uses oxygen and makes oxides...(carbon, sulfur, etc.)..the tractors and trucks and diesel electric locomotives still gotta plant, harvest, and transport it to the refineries. Reductions in greenhouse gas is a farce. Guess all we can do is crab while Washington goes deeper in debt subsidizing the idea, and blowing smoke about its viability and greatness. Sure prices will possibly jump at the pump but that won't be because of ethanol supplies. Refinery stocks are bet on every day in trading and that is the worst culprit. In another thread someone mentioned the droughts having effects on water rights. Los Angeles is paying farmers not to plant, big money per acre not to plant so they can get more water to the city from the aquaducts used for irrigation. Las Vegas is afraid that the lousy economy and lack of revenues to tax for their expensive water from Lake Mead and the Colorado River will have them running out of water due to the drought and a government agreement that when the water reaches a certain pool level above sea level the lake will be shut off for supply or at the very least go below the tunnel entrance for the water to get to the city. That would require the city to figure how to get more water with the tax base lower than it ever has been due to housing crunch and other economic downturn effects. A real problem, since the Hoover dam is involved to make electricity from the same impoundment. Kinda places a high value on water in some places where the corn don't grow, and in places where lavishly landscaped living really should have thought about how it would survive. The city pays folks there to remove the turf and have gravel yards by the square foot so they don't have to water the grass. Hookup fees for water are wickedly high. Seems the trickle down effect plays more of a role when you have the rights to the sources at the beginning of the flowage and the ones at the end have enough money to buy it from the middle. That could be the farmer that grows your food...or in this case grows your fuel for your car. Which is more important comes down to who has the most money in hand. Could be the oil companies...see ...water is valuable in a indirect way, and you can bet YOUR dollar will find It's way to the highest bidder no matter what. Whether it is sin city..or smoggy LA..or the farmer if it makes more for him to grow corn again instead of fallow. Mark [ Post made via Android ] -

It's OK Jerry...that arrow is a "conditioning" shot!....next time, park yer truck closer so she won't have to look for ya in the stand. She will know you are there when she sees it and won't look up there. If you get enough "conditioning" shots at her, she will tell her fat boyfriend not to worry, it's just normal woods noise and sticks falling and they never hit you....just stand and ignore that Jerry guy. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: too long Weather/Temp: nice Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: 1 to 3 Surface Temp 63.4 Location: breakwall east LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: millions Total Boated: too many Species Breakdown: brown fat, froggy, slimmy, ugly, rubber gobies Hot Lure: gulp minnows...2.5 inch shiner Trolling Speed: reverse...jigging in reverse.. Down Speed: not fast enough Boat Depth: too shallow...where does the goby finally get crushed by depth? Lure Depth: dragging on bottom...apparently! ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS photo hosting sites upload picture These were some fine examples of trophy gobie!...Mick and I teamed up today and had a tough time convincing the few salmon to bite and only managed a 30 second battle with a trout of some species on a j13 Rapala. Only a few salmon hopping out of the water around us and very clear water. We tried for perch out in 12 to 20 fow and marked a lot of what appeared to be some perch but found that we had a gobie hotspot (everywhere)...couldn't put the bait down more than 5 seconds and whammo!...huge gobies were off running with our "gulp" minnows! Now I know MUSKYBOB is licking his chops just at the sight of these tasty critters. We used his technique of dragging the bottom with our bait and caught tons of these little froggy fish! Some are real trophies, but we need a recipe for them. Maybe Adirondack smoked gobie or something. Sorry Bob, you might just loose the coveted goby award to us cause we really slaughtered them today. T top electronics box
skipper19 replied to ray koziatek's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Ray, if ya can't find one you can make a nice one from marine plywood or even construction plywood and coat it with poly urethane. Use a plexiglass door hinged at the top and a single push button latch at the bottom, and a close coil long spring fastened to the door to prop it open and with just a bend in the spring it will drop the door shut. Also a great addition to storage is the T-BAG. it hangs up under the top and holds pfd and lots of tackle stuff up out of the weather and easy access. I'll get you some pics from mine. There is a very distict difference between small game hunters and deer hunters. As a small game hunter the activity is focused on flushing game. A rather noisy approach in most cases. Scent control is not used and sometimes there are dogs employed. Yes there is shooting, but the small game hunter has announced their presence long enough for deer to calmly leave the area and not be affected by the shooting. It is just not close enough to them for them to be alarmed at any shooting during small game. Stalking deer and getting close to deer unannounced is what alarms them. Throw a couple rounds at them and they are more alert to EVERY small disturbance in the woods. Sure there will be bucks getting short memories when the scent of does come on strong, and that is your best chance for a buck to fall prey to your plans. However many bucks go into nocturnal mode too. Kids have just as much chance during regular season and it is safer by all means when everyone is on the same plan. Get them out there on opening day and teach them about ALL the aspects of gun hunting in the regular season, including the part of hunting with the presence of other hunters in the woods for instructions on safety. Needless to say, once a buck is fired at with a gun, you can bet that you won't see that deer in normal routine again if missed by inches. More activity in your well preserved area of attracting efforts can't be a good thing either. I'm all for helping youngsters get started, but what is wrong with regular seasons? My kids learned just as much AFTER bow season, AND during bow season. It's called bow season for a reason. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
