  1. I knew I was glad to be a Giants fan...I'm polishing my front hub caps with my tongue right now...as I'm driving...from the cab of this Kenworth! [ Post made via Android ]
  2. When things go wrong, like main engine quits and the boat is drifting in breaking seas, especially over 7 feet in 30 mph wind, you stand a good chance of capsize if you don't have a way to keep the bow forward to the wind and waves. I'm sure the 70 year old man would have come in sooner if his engine wasn't dead. Also just him mentioning, he could care less if he died out there at least gives a clue to the thoughts going through his mind. Obviously a little concerned for his own safety. Glad he made it back in ok. Hmmmmm, maybe if I become terminally ill, and I wanna save the funeral costs I should pick the roughest days to fish...ALONE.... [ Post made via Android ]
  3. That's why you got that nice big boat Rick! I get free showers in mine when It's like that! Sure is fun though. Nice fish Mel! [ Post made via Android ]

  5. ....I think Fenway has been on my boat before...with two legs!...if the dog says "fish ON!"..you're all set! [ Post made via Android ]
  6. I found a four leaf clover ...then a leaf fell off soon as I found it...bad luck ever since. Nice job on the trout targeting. I think I have salmon on the brain. Almost like nothing else is there. WTG Brian [ Post made via Android ]
  7. It's pretty hard to tell with oncoming boats. There are many factors that could play into the circumstances. #1...like you mentioned, find your own space, leave enough space so as to not immediately get in traffic to get set up. Chances are the fishing is better outside the pack in front of port anyway. #2...if there is waves consistent in a direction. Most not all will be trolling with the wave action some against it. Them you can go with the flow mostly. #3.... Since no one really knows for sure the other captains mind or what is the activity on another boat, you have to always be willing to show your intentions by a distinct course change at least 45 degrees in a consistent course,IF YOU CAN. sometimes flanking traffic makes that impossible with out speed change as well. #4...Try to see if the other boat is playing a fish. If it is then the obvious thing to do is give way and wide berth to them. There will likely be radical changes in direction by a boat with fish on. # 5 ....You only know what you will do, so be the first to try to signal your intentions as mentioned earlier. Turn 45 to 60 degrees from your course, show your port or starboard side in a consistent way and IF the other captain is watching then he will get the message. Sometimes wind and wave action can confuse an intention, but try to hold true on a change and then it is obvious. Don't pay to much attention to the other boat and its bow pointing in 30 degree directions in short patterns, it can be misleading. If the course change is consistent for more than a minute its probably noted as the pass. Close encounters are inevitable, but mostly not an issue if everyone knows about long lines in the wake. If it gets too uncomfortable with traffic, just find a new space. I myself avoid combat trolling at all costs and usually benefit with more relaxation and better fishing. [ Post made via Android ]
  8. Nice report as usual Rick! Great to see Point Breeze producing even in the weather mix. Glad to be back, Oswego was fun but, can't beat the home port for consistency. Good job Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  9. Monday was a tough day in Oswego. Scattered fish, non aggression, kings were really not on the attack. I did hear from the radio that meat rigs on twinkies were working on divers out 330, but that was yesterday, near port bay I guessed, and things are changing fast with the lake. I watched today, Tuesday, the surface change colors and the current/temp breaks change and move rapidly near Oswego from high above in the bluffs. [ Post made via Android ]
  10. That is a mighty big chicken!....maybe a turkey!..but a very nice char family of fish indeed! ...is that a cork in the mud hole? [ Post made via Android ]
  11. That was a nice colored bow! Came from 100 feet down too! upload picture Doug's hat close up... [ Post made via Android ]
  12. Thanks everyone! It has been a nice break from the noise and stress of the road. Ray, thankyou very much for the kind words. Every working body on this earth keeps the cycle moving forward, and everyone needs a connection to self deserving time. It is true that everyday occurrences, some emergencies, (plunging is not working) feeling uncomfortably cold, (fire went out in the heating thing), basement is a swimming pool or something like that. It's good to have the diversity of friends to come to the aid of us who are more professional to fix the problem of the day. Thanks to all who have that special knowledge. Now Ray, if you could help me fix the Lyntucky outhouse with some heat (from the methane gas supply), and tcon Tom could wire me up a phone in there would be great! Thanks Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  13. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/19 & 8/20 Time on Water: mid morn to mid afternoon Weather/Temp: perfect Wind Speed/Direction: lv west nw Waves: Sunday less than 2 to flat and Mon. 1 to 3 rollers Surface Temp: 74 + Location: west of port LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS Cher and I were invited to come stay with our friends in the house they rented on their vacation. What a great location, right on the beach, and a very nice little house located on a cove near the bluffs. I asked Doug if he ever tried fishing the lake before and he said no but wanted to try it and entered the derby just in case , on my recommendation, and I brought the Stand & Deliver machine with us. When I arrived on Friday the wind was cranking out of the north and the lake was a mess. So we sat out Saturday and let the lake calm down for Sunday. It did, but the wind also drove the temps way down to over 100 feet down. I sent the td down on the rigger and the readings came back 74 degrees all The way down to 100 feet Sunday. Our program consisted of six rods set up 3 on riggers and 2 divers on wire and a copper down the shoot 600 ft. The riggers would rot most of the day on Sunday except for one hit on the mag dreamweaver pink eye down 130 which took a 15 lb coho. The hottest sets were the wire divers out 300 to 330 set on 1 pulling pro troll and spin doctors with mirage and crazy **** flies in 170 to 220 fow. We went 3 for six on those. 1 king 26 lbs. 1 coho, and 1 steelhead. Monday the temps were still down deep and we ran the same spread minus the copper. We went to our waypoint from the day before but the picture was gone. We went to 550 fow and the picture was bleak, except for the bait which was there without the hooks. About 1 pm we turned back in and found the hooks on the screen looming around the bait near 350 fow. We trolled paddles and flies and spoons to no avail, as the fish were not aggressive, and only would follow the riggers to peel away after several minutes. We only managed one steelhead for the day on wire diver out 310 on a protroll and mirage fly. So we ended the day with that and came back to the huge deck on the water behind the rental house and drank shocktop to relax for the rest of the day. In retrospect, I really enjoyed the fishing in Oswego, and the harbor. Wrights marina is a great place to launch and the fish cleaning house is a convenient place to clean your catch of the day. I had a great time here. Hank - L&M

The guy you always see riding his bike around Port Bay Hey, what ever happened to that "law" passed in NY?...do ya think the girls forgot?.... OH YEAH! HANK!...never had no maniac..I mean mechanical work done, but he is a wealth of knowledge we all can tap into....specialy, fixing boats....and ice augers, bikes, bad posts (written kind) , adjusted attitude (of boats on plane)..coneseur (think that's French) of beer. Figured that out when he spit a swallow when Ray was busting my balls, back when I was quite naive. Musta been bad beer Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  16. I like to take the dipsy off the rod when done fishing, use a heavyweight swivels 90 lb. Plus. Leader end you can tie to the tail ring if you want, but do use a swivel on lure end. [ Post made via Android ]
  17. Put a GOOD QUALITY swivel on it. Change lures don't cut your line to do it. Failure happens when tying knots and one will fail outta 3 on average due to haste cold fingers, or , [ Post made via Android ]
  18. I'll have to try that on Cher. She is exactly the same case. Wiggle the boat on the trailer, or show her a still shot of rough water and ...maybe this weekend...60 bucks though?!..CRIPES [ Post made via Android ]
  19. If you run copper down the shoot and divers higher # than 2 AND TURN TOO SHARPLY for more than 15 seconds you run a high risk of tangle. I'll explain, the wide high diver needs good speed kept steady on it. Water pressure against it keeps it in plane. when you turn your insides float down due to speed reduction. 2 things worked against you , less water pressure and the weight being dialed heavily to the gravity side causing it to slip out of plane, and drop into your wake zone. the copper then moves to the inside of your turn. the 2 will cross, and when you straighten, the diver will climb in the water column, and catch the slow reacting copper line. Snafu! Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  20. I believe it is the only word recognized by the world in any country as universal language either in sign or verbal. I think Ray may have heard the word first, preceding OMGANOTHERSHORTFATBALDONE, when he was born. Mayan civilization used the epitaph pictographic form at the end of their calendar, meaning we are .....ummmmm (the past tense of the verb)
  21. Absolutley fantastic post Rick very detailed! Great pics too!...Thanks very much Mark [ Post made via Android ]

  25. Like the torpedo. Different design, but very trustworthy so far. Less expensive than Sampo or Dreamweaver. So far not so good luck with either Cabella or Bass pro store brand. Mark
