  1. What a great story Rod! This gets me very excited for the Sandy Creek Shootout this coming weekend, as I too am fishing with two 13 year old young men on the boat. I won't be the only big guy on the boat, as you were, but I know how the day goes when the work and strategy falls on your shoulders. Last year I had that experience, but not with kids. Just a 74 year old who was 3 sheets to the wind, and sick before we got done. I was whipped! Tom "tcon" and his son Dustin along with Dustin's friend Franz, will be going out with me and my friend Lois. Our plan is to get the boys into the exciting tournament atmosphere and let them be involved with the functions of tournament fishing on and off the boat. Minus the raccoon incident! I've had bats, birds on nests, chased a cat out before the boat left the drive, but not a raccoon :omg: I hope I can get some luck and get the boys to place well in the day like you did for guys! Thanks for the detailed report and mostly for the insightful details on fishing with the youngsters. Every part of your explanations for what you did with the boat with the kids on kings and the simplified spread makes great sence, and I intend to take that all out there with me. Very much appreciative of your candid input on the plan of attack, and it appears to have worked much better than just luck involved. The boys are lucky to have a knowledgeable skipper in you too Rod! Very well done crew! Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  2. The meat down the middle always has the anticipated HUGE salmon "air" about it......had the same a while back. It's down there...its in the ice...its being silently pulled way behind the other more flashy stuff....waiting...waiting....you know in the back of yer mind....anytime, as you solemnly stare at it from time time...THEN...WHAM..its like ....now this has to be the best fish of the year. And it is what it is...a big two year old..oh well. It was exciting.. Great report Rick. Nice to fish on yer own sometimes [ Post made via Android ]
  3. I am guessing you have maybe a 7000 series tie down surge brake coupler. There is a slot on top of the actuator for a screw driver or brake spoon to go in and manually pump the piston in the master cylinder. Use a one man brake bleeder on the bleed screws of the calipers. Do one at a time. Catch the fluid in a clean can and you can return it to the master cylinder when it gets low . Make sure you keep the cylinder full when bleeding. Once bled, unhook the electrical plug from the tow vehicle and try reversing. If you can't back it it is working. If it rolls back then the actuator is not bled completely or malfunctioning. Also try to pull it with the plug hooked up and the emergency break away cable pulled. It should not be able to turn the wheels when tugged by the tow vehicle. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  4. Found em!....good job Carl! [ Post made via Android ]
  5. My lowrance is dead. A combo lms335 that no longer is used for finding stuff under the boat. Only for navigation now. Raymarine is taking the place of sounder. It is also an obsolete model, but works great. Raymarine would most likely be the replacement on my boat again, although I have not needed to ask for repairs or techs. In Cabelas or Bass Pro, I always ask at the desk where they are suppose to be knowledgeable, "when was the last time and how often do you see a rep from lowrance show up here." Then ask .."what about Humminbird"....those are the two main sounder navigation units they sell.....guess what they say about each ones follow-up on their product issues. It's not Loweance that ever finishes ahead I'll admit. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  6. Yup...what Carl said. I have a Penn 309 loaded with 600 ft. 30 lb. and the depth it gets to is nearly the same. About 2 feet less than 45 on every 100 feet out. It just has less resistance in the water than 45 lb which has the density advantage over the same footage. I do like the lighter copper as well. [ Post made via Android ]
  7. You said your losing rigs from the flourocarbon leader breaking?...30 lb should not break off on a fish even if the salmon is particularly savage. Provided you have good knots...tied carefully and lubed. Ray is correct about the dipsy set just enough...in other words ya gotta give a slight sweep of the rod at 2.8 mph to trip it. Sounds like everything else is right. Try a different kind of knot for the flouro....one that uses a double wrap on the ring. Be sure you are NOT using those split ring swivels. Use welded one piece. Suggested knot is a double improved clinch knot or perfection loop half hithed to the rings. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  8. I wanna fish with Ray...he pays all the expenses :omg:.....wait ....oil?...backsides?...gosh! What was I thinkin On second thought....he might just be his own team! [ Post made via Android ]
  9. Anybody seen my pet Soduselyness?.....her name is Ellie, she's a pachy. Has an affinity for downrigger balls and copper. upload pictures [ Post made via Android ]
  10. I like the perfection loop to loop. Make the loop in the wire big enough to pass the spool through itself and wind it on top of the mono backing. Near 100% knot strength. Friendly to the 7 strand too. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  11. Fisher....very nasty....they will swim 20 miles to eat flies. Once hooked they know you are gonna bring their ass to the boat AND EAT THE REST OF YER FLIES :omg: [ Post made via Android ]
  12. Nice report Rick! Way to wack em and stack em! [ Post made via Android ]
  13. Hope ya got a tetnus shot...not from the hook, but FISHINMAN Tom....you know...made the fly leader. I'm just sayin  [ Post made via Android ]

  20. Sorry for the mix up , you are correct jekyll...my bad. [ Post made via Android ]
  21. Three in combination per person...no more than 1 Atlantic and it must be 25 inches. All steelhead must be 21 inches minimum. Lake trout is no more than two and one has to be less than 25 or more than 30 inches. One can be in that slot limit. Entire catch can include, three salmon or trout, of the chinook, coho, steelhead, brown species....AND ...ONE Atlantic over 25 in.....AND 2 lake trout one in slot of 25 to 30 in. one longer or shorter than that....in the case of that combo 6 fish in combination...THIS IS A CORRECTED STATEMENT! ...Sorry for the misslead. 22. Hey Bob, glad to hear your success and it comes in doubles!...haha!...so now the skunk comes every so often to put humbling back in check. However it does make the success that much better in memory. Soon it will be hard to remember some of the good days of reeling big fish in, as it becomes more common place each time you go out. But everyone needs the skunk, and gets the skunk, but not all talk about the skunk. Congrates!...WTG Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  23. Ut Oh....hope there are no "SKI's" on the boat...good learnin and great job fishin
