80 lb hollow core braid wind on leader. No knot .....smooth transition...will absolutely NOT fail in the connection..no bulges ...100% strength integrity from copper to backing or copper to flourocarbon. Taken viscous hits off the outriggers countless times with a huge amount of shock load on take up of slack to load the rod no problem...ever for three seasons now. Drawbacks....tedious to rig...a jig is helpfull and serving bobin If in the unlikely event the copper breaks..unless you got pigtails..I would revert back to the albright knot while fishing on the boat for easier quick fix. Flourocarbon leaders?
skipper19 replied to Curro's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
For early browns and using small snap swivels and lures, easier to tie knots and better action specially with plugs that wiggle a lot, I like 15. 30 for the bigger lures and fish. [ Post made via Android ] -
Flourocarbon leaders?

Mallory makes some of the best performance ignition system components available for aftermarket applications. I have not used the breakerless distributor that you ordered but if it is like the one I do have and going by the YL model designation it will be bulletproof. I have a dual point YL distributor on a modified V8 in a four wheel drive that was used for hill climb and sand drag competion back in my off road racing days. It still runs and is fed by a Mallory 40,000 volt coil. It has an adjustable advance curve to fine tune the ignition timing advance for any modifications. Very tough stuff. Fishing Deep with Two Downriggers

Releases put on cables works...sometimes the release on the tail of the ball will cause it to wag when you load the rod heavy on the release. It can tip the tail upwards on the load of the rod and cause instability. Mark [ Post made via Android ] -
That's how I do it. The impractical way ....make your own chart using what you use and do it on a slow day of fishing. 30 lb wire will hit bottom 79 feet 200 out 2.5 setting. I find an area of the bottom that is relatively even and troll at the speed I want at an angle towards shore. When the dipsy gets zebra rash, that is what I record on the depth sounder. Etc. Etc. Different lengths out. [ Post made via Android ]

Yankee 6-24 @ the Oak

Thanks for the great report Rick! Nice job on the oinkers!... Mark [ Post made via Android ] -
It actually is a learning process in itself by using it and getting familiar with its functions, settings, and its capabilities. I'm not familiar with that one you have but some are easy and some are complicated. If you can spend some time in the water with it and do some experimentation with what it sees below by sending down some different objects on a line and mess with the sensitivity and range zoom settings, you will become familiar with what the return in the screen looks like in correlation with the object you are presenting. I agree that you should use the echo function and not the fish id because everything shows up the same on fish id. Schools of bait are a different return than a single fish and a thermocline will appear as a thin line faintly revealing a temp break if sensitive enough. Fish id shows all these things as fish. Arches are fish, bait shows up as clouds or looks like a false bottom return. Transducer signal frequency has a lot to do with definition higher frequency is more defined but less area covered. Hope this helps Mark [ Post made via Android ]

I didn't realize Tom changed his name. Easy there ice auger repair man I've been on for the "most part" the last few trips Shawn pretty much explained that first 30-40 minutes to the T I understood his frustration from the entire week and didn't give him a hard time. He did have the hot fly sent once noon rolled around and he finally got his wire in the water to stay I did mention in passing that we should have gone back in used the Ray K theory and stripped all the wire and backing off. Then measure the wire by holding it across the parking lot and marking it every 7.29 feet then multiply that by 6.385 then divide that by how tall Ray is (4'6") and subtract the thickness of the spool plus the number of letters in the reel manufactures name then add the total numbers of the date in which we were doing this times the year the reel was manufactured then figure out how many inches of material were used to make ______!!!!!!MY pink G string THAT I wear!!!!!!_______ while fishing total all that up and we would get the number of feet down to wire out ratio and then head back out so that we would catch a fish. If we had any line break we could have gone in and done it all over again then too. As it turned out we only had 18+ bites that morning netting 15. Damn it we should have gone in back in Shawn [ Post made via Android ] EDITED BY TOM THE FISHINMAN.... -

Use two dipsy's .....one rod main line...connect the first dipsy on a left hand 3 setting....the second dipsy upside down on a. Right hand 3 setting,...be sure to use a tandem barrel swivel to make sure they can act separately. Then deploy as normal with a good bottom fishing jig rod (for stiffness )...this will give you a counter rotating action guaranteed to impress your newbies If the rotation is too fast and wide just set on lower #. Be sure to have the same leader length on each dipsy to keep out of balance vibration to a minimum. Guaranteed to catch every fish around with whirling disease! Just stand clear of the stern when rig surfaces to avoid black eyes, contusions, and temporary disorientation as the spinning rig exits the water.....have fun, and no don't use a second lure on a dipsey...criminy sakes! I'm really serious...and crazed.... [ Post made via Android ]

I have one 309. It's really old, if that helps with durability. It is slow. Not a big concern for me. It's being used for a copper rig with 600 ft of 30# and 600 ft 30# power pro braid backing. Lead core should work fine on it. I would buy another if I was going for lead core or shorter 45# copper. Good reel, loud clicker, smooth drag, great value..trade off is slow retrieve. My other rigger rods are 209 model. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
