  1. Been wondering if anyone has tried fly spray for horses...seems like it would be the ticket! I have it on my tractor supply shopping list. Those flys really are...STABLE FLIES....probably would work [ Post made via Android ]
  2. I wonder if Old Time Woodsman Fly Dope could work ......eehhh....on second thought, I don't think going around smelling like an old railroad tie is good either. Not to mention it eats plastics...like your fishing line. [ Post made via Android ]

  4. one of the things overlooked by many when changing the s/d is the flash factor. Was the other side of the primary color on the s/d mirror or crinkle or is the edges mirrored and if the sun was out or not. The mirror flash can be a bit intimidating to fish if it is bright and fishing clear water on a sunny day. I have had the bite on a particular fly change because of the flash of a chrome sided s/d over a crinkle glow or plain white back even though the primary color was the same and the fly was the same that was producing.
  5. All I know is if you use fly repellent like deep woods off or the like....they bite harder and don't they seem to bite just when you have a big king on screaming line out and then you get the indian fly biting my feet dance going
  6. Nice job guys....oops..I mean...fellas....Aw shucks I can't help it. Pink....did Tom get out the Barbie Pole he wresled away from me at Bass Pro? Ok ok, but a lake trout?..... [ Post made via Android ]
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):6/10 Time on Water:8:30 to3pm Weather/Temp:pretty warm, steamy Wind Speed/Direction: none Waves: none Surface Temp: Location:west of port LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 12 Total Boated:9 Species Breakdown: coho, steelhead, kings Hot Lure: siggs nuclear green glow, Mtn dew s/d Trolling Speed: 2.7, 2.9 gps Down Speed: Boat Depth: 160 450 Lure Depth: 25, 95, to 100 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS My son Chris and his fiance Erin came out for the weekend and we got to fish together. It's been a long time since they were able to come fish with me, seems work is always taking up time, but we made up for it with a great day on the lake. We did the Albion strawberry festival on Saturday and Erin ran the 5k. She had her best time so far and the rain didn't dampen her enthusiastic effort! Sunday we fished and did well in a narrow strip of water dominated by moss mats and other debris. For the first hour I choose to fish outside of the moss cause I really hate the stuff and found that the water was pretty clear and also void of fish for the most part except for the marks down 300 feet in 459 fow. Pointed the boat south and west a little, back to the moss mat minefield, and like any good combat, the fish were using the moss for cover. Weaving around as many mats as I could, we managed two doubles and some screaming kings to get out of cover. One king took Chris's 240 diver on a .5 setting out 650 more feet and just came unbuttoned it took a bloody death fly on a white pro troll green dot. The fly was a little ragged after that so I tried a nuclear green glow ATOMIK behind that same flasher and managed a king at the end of the trip as we were picking up to head in. That turned into the second double of the day with Chris landing a nice steelhead off the 95 rigger on a 42 second spoon. Coho and steelhead were sharing the same water in the top 30 feet and there the siggs rigg fly and mountain dew s/d did all the damage set out on wire at 2.5 out 50 dipsy. Steel head were crazy jumping multiple times and crossed up my copper on the outriggers. Having two on at once were just nuts. Took the copper in as it was not producing in those zones of 40 to 60 feet. Sent out the chute a 120 foot copper and got several hits on the doctor spoon in chicken wing it was pulling. Had to continually clear moss and plastic bags along with happy birthday mylar balloons off the rigging. Other than that the fishing was great and fun to be out with my son again and his bride to be. 8. Carl, the steelhead were insane today. We had them coming up thru all the lines and tangling stuff beyond recognition. Off course they had to use those nasty moss mats for cover. I was trying to weave around those all day . But wasn't doing very good at it. Lots of salad along with fish. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  9. I liked it last year, and I will like it even more this year. Great tournament guys! Thanks for the effort in making it work so well! Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  10. Yes! Those boys and Tom are quality friends, and they all have a permanent place in my trips on Lake O as well. I hope I can get them on some of those drag ripping kings now that Dustin, and Franz are broken in on copper and steelies and coho. Even when the fishing was slow they were very patient, and determined. I sometimes forget that kids can't often sustain the boredom of a lull in action, and I have probably one of the strongest desires of anyone to just get that bite to come back and just get one more shot at a big fish before calling it quits. Those kids were right with me. I sometimes need a nudge to pull the rods and give up, but they managed to patiently wait for Tom and I to say Ok, I guess its time to quit. Thanks for the compliment on the pics! Those guys helped them a lot with their genuine enjoyment of fishing and the smiles were my reward. We will be doing it again for sure! 14. I don't have down temp, I can say that it is only a tool to help get an understanding of the water column and its temps. However a sonar and a very good one is worth more in finding the thermocline and bait. If you can see targets on the screen down 150 feet or more...fish them. Just because the temp is right for the kings to be there doesn't mean they are...hey when you are in your house, and you want something to eat, you go to the kitchen. It might not be that comfortable there with no AC in the window like the living room and your comfy lazy boy waiting for you. However you will get up and make the effort to get that beer and snack for a short bit then go relax....but if the wife brings you a sandwich and a frosty cold one, you won't turn it down, unless you are sleeping or sick. so fish the marks, bring them their favorite goodies in their living room and they will say "thanks, I needed that"....and up they come into the light and balking all the way...FISH ON! 15. All ya can do is back up 10 yards and punt ..but if you watch the reports and ya get out there and putt around you will get enough data in the grey matter that will give up some direction to follow. If ya got down temp and surface temp you will have something to start with. The sounder will give you some idea where bait is gathering and the big fish will not be far away from them especially after the disruption. They will be hungry. Look for color setup in the water someplace and the bait will be there. Should only take a couple days and nights of calm and not to extreme temps and the lake should be more predictable. I say this weekend by Saturday if it stays calm and a couple days of south westerly breeze under 10 knots along the south shore should get things going predictably. But get out there and tell us what ya saw and did, information is always a good thing Mark [ Post made via Android ]

  19. I copied this from a forum in Texas, it is a response to someone's problem with the same unit where it was flashing on and off and was having trouble acquiring position. I know its not the same problem but the reset instructions were given here by a Lowrance pro staff member from the Tulsa office. I go by that place all the time going to OKC. Mark try this next time it happens. Soft Reset Power unit down, press pages key and power key, hold keys until USA map appears. This will not delete waypoints or other user saved data. Hard Reset This method will delete waypoints and trails so be sure to back them up first unless you have no choice. Shut unit off, press Zoom in, Zoom out, and the power key, hold keys until USA map appears. Unit will reset to factory default, you will need to allow time for unit to reinitialize gps position. This may take up to a few minutes on the first gps position lock. _________________________ Jason Gilstrap LOWRANCE PRO STAFF [ Post made via Android ]
  20. Did you try a hard reset on it? Seems like there is a memory loss on the maps. There must be a way to do a reset I would think. IDK? Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  21. That would work too. I never tried rubber bands so I don't know what size you would use. I guess you could tighten the release up so it doesn't open on a hit and it would break the rubber band instead. Otherwise if the release were to open you would have the rubber band possibly wrapped on the copper until it came loose from the half hitch. The hollow core braid would be able to be twisted into a loop and placed in the release clip so that the rod could be loaded a little heavier to take up the slack of the angle out to the rigger end. Hollow braid is neat stuff with a smooth transition but needs a lot of time to put together, and some special tools. I think for simplicity the shrink tube and rubber band would be ok. 23. The Taco outriggers are very ridged and can handle anything from dipsy to copper. What I want to do is segment my 600 into 150 ft sections spliced by hollow core braid (no knots) and have my 300 segmented in 3 sections 100 each. Then I will have multiple lengths that are measured distance and a place to attach the release without damage to copper. I then will be able to cover any depth down to approx. 100 feet with just two junk lines. One advantage of riggers is they will shine when boards are sinking in rough water. There are always the occasions where a fish will run rampant and tangle anything but as far as running true while trolling I never have an issue. Sometimes a fish will get under the copper and you will have to release it to do the reacharound firedrill with a buddy on board but that is the only real bother. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  24. Point Breeze admittedly has been tough recently. Cold water was on the inside not long ago and there was little pattern to go on. Try again when things set up again and you should do better. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
