Question about best set up?
skipper19 replied to Chromemagnum's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Yes,using wire or braid divers, just don't run them long and wide. I do a ..5 on one side any length, and 1 setting on the other. You can go a max of 2 setting no prob but any more than that keep the length under 120. I have 15 foot Taco outriggers with 5 ft between the mounts. 35 feet tip to tip separation. Run them high and back so your copper enters the water at the knot far behind your other sets and you will have no problems I set mine so the end of the riggers are even with the height of my 8.5 ft rods when in the T-top rocket launchers and angled back even with the stern. You may have to find a new anchor point for the rigger halyards. I use an adjustable bunge to get the tension set off my gunnel rails. I have a 600 30 lb copper, and 200, 300 45 lb. that work greatoff the riggers. Anything I can help you with I'll be glad to offer. Mark [ Post made via Android ] -
Stan, yeah....never ever let a fish get foul hooked ....did you know they swim sideways and tangle everything?....geese who woulda thought f1sh-On...I'm with ya man, it was slow out there and even the deep water was pretty bleak. There were some marks on the bottom 270 down. No idea what they were. [ Post made via Android ]

It was just the fish Nick. It took a hard left off the corner rigger back 30 down 30. Went 60 ft left and got the dipsy wire on a missile launch. Ray, thanks dude for making me feel better about age related failures...HEY, who you sayin is old?...when I get there I'll let ya know how bad it is but, right now its just a loss of youth and skill....testosterone, hair (on my head)..what else? ......oh, yeah memory...vision (not the future...I can see that)...continent retention......uhhhhh...ohhhhhh, Mr turtle [ Post made via Android ]

Question about best set up?
skipper19 replied to Chromemagnum's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You got outriggers...use them for your copper. That is the best use of equipment you already have, not to mention quick and fun. Lure Speed changes dramatically with turns and rough water trolling to help trigger hits...especialy on spoons. Get a 600 and a shorter 300 or 400. You can run the 600 any distance and the 300,400 can be your middle ground. Keep the two at least 100 foot length apart. Mark [ Post made via Android ] -

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Memorial Day Time on Water: 8am to 2pm Weather/Temp: Hot...steamy Wind Speed/Direction:less than 5 east then south west 10-15 Waves: flat am then 1 to 2ft pm near shore Surface Temp: 67.5 Location: Wilson LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 9 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: coho and steelhead Hot Lure: NK 28 gator Trolling Speed: 2.7 gps Down Speed: Boat Depth: 260 to 350 Lure Depth: 30, 35, 40, 45 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Took my friends Lois and Butch out for a day. Went east of port and set up in 300 fow at a temp break visible on the surface. Called on 10 and got a down temp cause mine is still on the shelf in the store. Fellow fisherman said 47 degrees 45 down 260 fow. Ok so I haven't seen bait and any hooks I saw were high so I kept everything kinda high except a deep rigger at 70. Same program as the day before outriggers and copper, 200, 300...three riggers and two dipsy. The bite was a slow pick of coho and steelhead, nothing furious. Managed to get five fish to the boat, one was released unintended. This fish, a coho is swimming around free to tell a story of how to make a fisherman look foolish. It managed somehow to snag the port rigger lead off the ball trailing at 30 feet and thirty feet down after it took the 45 center rigger. Now I did what I tell myself not to do and try one more rod with a different offering to get a bite going earlier, and put down a wire dipsy on a 3 setting and run it next to another dipsy on a 1 setting. Not that it should cause a problem, but just to get one more rod in the mix that would somehow magically bring fish in the boat on a slow day....guess what..it gets tangled too! Now the fish gets in the net and Lois has the patience of a saint so she starts pulling the puzzle of line and wire apart and hangs the net with the fish off the back. As she lifts the net after ward it gets hooked on the ladder bracket on the dive platform and so she dips the net down to get it off and Mr. Coho swims away!...caused all that ruckus and then swims off! ...oops...gotta go drive the big truck for a bit i'll finish this report with pics a little later....stay tuned Ok, where was I....oh, so I'm sputtering about how many times I release fish in thirty seconds...and they float, gotta go git it. This one swims after hanging in the net 15 minutes ...center rigger fires, I grab it and the goes limp. Leader broke, free slider gone too. The fish God loves me now Ok, so last fish, cause I'm getting roasted, and stuff is happening, so let's get it in, ANOTHER TANGLE!...ARGH fish is pulling drag, and is out 900 feet! Butch has the rod and it is bent really hard. Everything is out of the water and we start giving way to this tug of war. Butch is gaining line now, while I'm scratching my head. Fish wasn't that big ..."Butch...did you trade fish for log, or Walmart shoping bag?"...30 minutes later a 11 pound steelhead comes in....foul hooked above and behind the pec fin. ...can it get any better than this....for laughs? free image hosting Prepare to launch image host Butch fighting the "walmart bag" image hosting The Walmart bag image hosting adult Catches of the day! Tom, I had the best time watching the smiles on those boys faces grow bigger with each fish. That was my best gift of all, and I must say the boys were very nice and fun to be with. Yeah the fish were really trying to take my fingers off not once but twice! Both times on the 300 foot copper just as the clip was going closed on the outrigger it flys away and we fished with one rod for the first 20 or 30 minutes finally got four rods set when another takes off. Then while letting back a diver on slow drag it flew off with it still in my hand at 100 ft out on a .5 setting. Eventually we managed to get 7 rods out....200, 300 copper off the outriggers, two divers , and thee downriggers. Everything took shots, and we had some really feisty spring fish actually pulling and ripping drag like a king ..Like Tom said it was a flurry of action and then it got real slow. It was a pleasure having Tom drive the boat, and he was good at it so I could do the rigging and keep an eye on those rods. Everything ran straight and we never had a tangle even in the rollers and trolling into the wind. Those boys were on the ball though as the fish were really getting their attention, and they were in the FISH ON mode!. Can't say there was a hot lure, but we ran a combination of spinny and fly, spoons green and some orange, since the kings seemed to be missing in action, we never got hits on the venerable lures such as the 42 second and NBK. The gator on the 300 copper was the choice of steelhead. We did venture out to 330 fow, but the bite stopped early and there was a lot of lure washing going on at mid day. Thanks for coming along Tom, Dustin, and Franz, ..I had fun and the pleasure was all mine jpg upload The way out, nice day! upload images Franz getting acquainted with his fish jpg upload Dustin getting scaly free image hosting We kept five and the rest swam! Can't wait to do it again, Thank you Tom and boys! Mark [ Post made via Android ] -
