I have been on the boat with Nick...I choose lures, I had input on strategy, I celebrated in the catch, I helped diagnose engine problems, I went on wine tours and got fat eating virtual wings and ice cream, ......and to top it off my Hands smell like fish after handling my smartphone connected to his Mark [ Post made via Android ]

I don't know why there is no answer it is a great looking boat and seems reasonably priced for a lightly used boat ready to fish.....economy? ..just not many folks with money to spend anymore and the banks are not so willing these days either. Price is right. [ Post made via Android ] -
Braid seldom needs retieing. The flouro is tough but prone to nicks and can break there. I test my knots by pulling them and actually try to break the knot up to a good hard pull and Sharp tug. You can use 30 lb mono for backing on your braid so you don't need to fill the spool all the way up with braid. I use an albright knot for the connection of braid to mono. As long as you are fishing Hemlock and similar lakes and not trying to catch 30 lb kings on lake O then you will be fine with about 500 FEET of braid on top of mono backing. In most cases you will never see the backing going out on a fish from Hemlock, and the knot will stay on the reel. Lake O however is a whole lot different. Mark Also, if tieing braid to a ring on a swivel be sure you use good ONE PIECE rings not spiral type. The braid can work out of the spirals. [ Post made via Android ]

For a different connection I use a no knot connection for backing to copper and copper to flouro leader. Absolutely seamless transition from one to the other. Stronger than any knot in wire to backing or leader. Cortland makes a hollow braid called c16 in 80 lb, and it eliminates a knot connection. It's a little bit tedious to complete the connections but well worth the time for a truely nice unit of line through all the guides and reel guide. I started useing this last year and have had great success with it. It does require a one time purchase of a threading daho needle, and you can also use a needle hook to form a loop connection off the end of the hollow braid, but I just tie a perfection loop knot for the backing and leader. Still very smooth. The end of the hollow braid is served, and I use the 30 lb power pro braid for that. It keeps the braid solidly attached to the copper and keeps it from fraying apart. I have never had a failure so far on all three of my copper setups. Two 45 lb and one 30 lb. Rigged this way....only draw back is if it breaks, which I believe is rare, is that it would be hard to do another hollow braid connection while trolling in the boat unless you have a nice cabin to sit down in and work on it. The serving is the hard part without a jig. I do it without and haven't used a bobin to do the serving of the power pro yet but that would be very useful and much easier than winding the serving by hand like I do. Fat Nancy's in Pulaski has the kits and the braid. Mark [ Post made via Android ]

I use seguar flourocarbon leader material from the dipsy to lure and a good snap swivel on lure...virtually invisible...15 lb is plenty for Hemlock, but it does need to be tough to handle the shock of hit on a dipsey....you keep this up and your gonna need a new credit card...this is a sickness you know right? PS..use good knots recommended for the braid because the material is very slippery and knots can slip. The package usually illustrates the recommended ones to use . What brand of braid did you get? http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/ ... 3.250m.jpg color plume looks like it is packed down near the bar out deep from the red can. Hardly any color east of there now. Maybe a couple miles east of the red can will be a more fertile color and hold some bait?...keep tryin Nick [ Post made via Android ]

Oak Report 5-19
skipper19 replied to Captain Carl Bish's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Nick has gone deep out off Wilson, and hit a good king at 110 over 280 just a little while ago. High sun deep fish. I would go for it. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
