  9. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 5/5 Time on Water: 10:00 to 4:00 Weather/Temp: sunny, cold Wind Speed/Direction: 10 to 12 ne Waves: 1-3 Surface Temp: 47.4 Location: Johnson Creek to Shadigee LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 15+ Total Boated: 9 Species Breakdown: lakers and coho Hot Lure: nuclear green dot pro troll and green glow hammer fly. Trolling Speed: 2.7 to 2.9 gps Down Speed: Boat Depth: 90 to 120 Lure Depth: 66 up to 40 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Took Butch out there today. Ran west to Johnsons creek and set up in 85 fow. Third rod going in and first one goes off and then another goes off. Lakers were hungry today and again, one of them takes two lures from different lines on opposit sides of the boat. The orange slurpy super slim was dragging along in 40 fow doing nothing so I lowered it to 55 and it goes off and then the green gator NK mag comes up in this fishes mouth. Guess I need to stagger the leads off the ball more to make them work for it more. Picked up a couple coho there in front of Johnsons and kept going west to Shadigee, where there was Laker city. Lost count of the hits and returned most to the lake except 2 smaller ones. Lost one at the back of the boat that was more than 20 lbs. The nuclear green dot protroll with green glow hammer fly was the one doing all the damage off the 140 wire diver. Others took spoons, frog, gator NK mag. A couple on the 200 copper including one of the coho hitting a mountain dew spin doctor and green crinkle fly. Seems the kings have blown off west with the ne wind. None caught and none heard of today. Bait was non existent on the screen but apparently one of the coho had found some large smelt, and not so sure but a couple were resembling salmon fingerlings, not sure but there is some scales left that kind of resemble little salmon. Most hits came in the 110 fow where there was a thin line of color in the water. Kept two of the smaller lakers for the new smoker barby, maybe get a cedar board to cook it on.....maybe eat the board...not sure. Mark adult upload image image upload upload pictures This coho was on the feedbag. Proof of bait somewhere. ==================== [ Post made via Android ]
  10. Exactly what Rick offered!..It works for me, just remember his point about moving rods to the chute to make things easier to deploy. I run my copper off the outriggers up high and back to avoid issues with the dipsy wires. Good advice Rick. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  11. Ahhh, so that's where the colored water musta went...gone with the wind, good call Carl . Out front was not so good finding salmon, but I had limited time to search and started east of port going back west and the water was clear black and full of lakers. Tom has ruined the carma of the rachet jaw apparently. Mark
  12. You could also run them on 90 feet of braid to mono backing and clip the mono into a scotty stacker release set on the tight pinch setting with a 48 inch lead on it 20 feet above the ball and lower the ball to 100 feet or more. The dipsey on a 2.5 setting will plane off the rigger cable like a side winger at a depth approximately 20 feet deeper than your ball is running. I have done this and had no problems releasing them with the mono backing because there is mot too much mono out. The mono will keep the fleas off and the braid is deeper than the fleas generally live. It's not as easy as a plain rod and free dipsey but you can do this without the need for the magnum dipsey. Stacking the rods is a small drawback to do this but it is often very deadly on fish coming to the ball for a look. It's the down and out method, and you can still run your wires out by them selves. Mark
  13. The 200 copper has the advantages of sink rate at different speeds. The copper is not effected as much by flasher fly combos pulling more resistance and consequently running higher in the water column as a core line. I was surprised the other day when the 200 copper came up with zebra on the hook and I never went under 59 FOW on a east troll...with the current. It had a pro troll and fly combo on it. I made some turns, but not crazy sharp ones. Lot less to reel in and great telegraph of lure/fish to the rod. Mark
  14. It took the middle rigger first, I saw it bobbing like it was still in the release, but when I went to try to release it, it felt like it was stuck somehow. I thought this is weird, now the port rigger starts pulsing and I have Lois go for it and now it seems as if we have two fish at once, but somehow the first rod, the one I have in my hands is feeling like it just came loose from the release on its own without all the yanking going on. Then as the lines begin to converge I think we are tangled on each other but then of course the evidence was clear that the fish took the 60 rigger and went over and grabbed the 55 rigger. What probably felt like the release holding was the line blowing back in slack and then the fish riding along on the other release for a bit. Team effort, but it still fought like a rubber boot. depressing after the ripping kings we had on Sunday Mark
  15. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):5/2 Time on Water:7:30 Am to 10:30 am Weather/Temp:chilly Wind Speed/Direction: 10-12 east n/e Waves: 2 to 3 Surface Temp: Location:off the port LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated:4 ... 5 if ya count the ...HOG FISH Species Breakdown: lakers, coho...and ...oink oink Hot Lure: all of them...hog fish liked gator with side order of frozen frog Trolling Speed: 2.4 / 2.7 gps Down Speed: Boat Depth: 60 to 90 Lure Depth: 50 to 60 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS HOG FISH!.....well that's what I call something that has to eat everything in sight. Lois came out with me today and we Trolled the east side of port back to the park and pulled mostly lakers in ranging from 8 to 12 lbs. The bite was a little slower today than Sunday. No kings to be found this trip, but lakers were busy and we hauled in three of them. One was a real pig....ate two lures before the first one even poped off the release. One nice little eater coho...it was on the new smoker grill tonite and was gooooood. Seems the wind out of the east pushed the color back west somewhere and the kings were not as popular today. The water went from 1ft waves in the morning to 2-3 by late morning and Lois had to work in the afternoon so we picked up at 10:30 to head in. adult image hosting free picture hosting hosting images Laker...HOG FISH ....does it count for two fish?...what a glutton Mark ==================== [ Post made via Android ]
  16. I never ask for money from anyone to help with gas on my boat. I have had people who never went out before and I never even knew them, but they offered to help with gas or trade with something I could do or use from them. Those folks who offer are aware of the expense but don't know the cost or efficiency of the boat and if they ask I will usually say what the boat uses for trolling on a particular trip, some are long runs and some are not, so I am honest about the use of gas for the day. They usualy will offer something in line with the usage.....and if they do...they are considered friends. If they are really good friends they will always offer and in some cases I have friends that I know can't afford much and they will offer something but I will say It's just better to have them along for the fun and I was going out anyway. 17. I know what ya mean Tom, my garage was getting a waft of smoker drift every so often and now it has the essence of hickory bbq. I go in there and my stomach starts to growl. Just ate the leftovers and it was even better. Gotta do a salmon in there soon. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
  18. O...M...G!!!! I forgot ...the results for it....no..no can't make ya wait anymore ...It was GREAT!....more ...ok another one ...Maybe "FAMOUS" MARK'S OH wait I did already mention it was lip smackin....but did I mention it was great? hey .... there's left overs..>>>>>>>>>> ...
  19. The wind has not not been a friend the last few days. When I got to the lake Sunday it was a surprise the water was capped pretty bad. I thought the wind was light at the house 5 miles from shore but that was deceiving. 11:00 am was a hard ride west into them but wanted to set up and get the easy ride back to port on the troll. My daughters boyfriend does not handle the chum factor well and he slept on the bow deck for most of the troll.
  20. Thanks guys! It was a great day of fishing, The perch was a surprise side order, actually made me think for a minute about drifting some perch offerings and try for a pail full of those tasty critters. Saw some stuff on the Raymarine but figured was clutter or maybe bait, probably was a school of post spawn perch hogs Mark
  21. Nice Browns I see that fat football. Must be a PIG!..wanted more to eat How deep did you go for the salmon? I was too deep at first and near the edge of the colored water when I moved into the color a little bit more towards shore and had action between 60 and 70 Fow. The green water was the ticket there. a little slower troll too. Spoons seem a little more active than the wires and flies combo but both produced out in front of point Breeze. troll was east due to waves and my gps read 2.4 to 2.8 with the 2.4 side being more active. east current was cutting the water speed past the lures as well but I don't have a speed temp unit to measure accurately....just go by my rigger cables by experience. Mark
  22. Excellent Olcott is HOT!...gotta love the early start this year Mark
  23. Radial tires are always the best and if you travel highway speeds temps going near 80 degrees outside extended high speed , heat will build rapidly in bias and the stress of the trailer swaying in wind will heat a bias tire worse as well. I have Carlisle tires and love them, stay away from Kendra and load star for any tire, they wear very uneven. Just my opinion. Mark Nothing sucks worse to have a flat or worse a blow out and have to change it on the side of the road. Spare tires are a must but radials are much more dependable for weight and highway speed. 24. image hosting There she is at 7:30 this morning smoking nicely. A thin blue white smoke rising from the hickory chunks and kingsford in the side fire box. image upload A peek in the fire box...minion method of burn going perfectly. upload images 225 on the temp guage....just right image hosting Star of the show...pork short ribs with Jamaican rum rub, and some Apple juice in the pan steaming...a few squirts of juice during the smoke with Apple juice for moisture and a little more smoke sticking on the "bark". free image hosting Close up of the minion burn...the fire made to burn back against the draft gave me a nice even temp and smoke for about two hours, then when it gets to the other end I move the coals to the from the draft end down to the other end and add new line of cold briquets and line with new hickory chunks. Good for another couple hours or so. free picture hosting This is the draft setting and the chimney is wide open on the chamber. After an hour or so I spray the ribs with Apple juice and do that each hour. A bit later I threw in a whole chicken on a beer can and smoke steamed it along with the ribs. What can I say....great day of fishing and some lip smacking bbq. It turned out great!...only draw back is it used all the bag of briquets. Had I not learned the minion method of burning the fire I would have been buying two bags of charcoal I think. Next I'll have to try making my own charcoal. Mark [ Post made via Android ]
