  1. That was a blast for a short evening trip! I counted 4/5...I only remembered 1 dropped fish by a guy who claims he doesn't have the dropsies!...just sayin A few more pics: Wire rod out 265 on a 2 1/2 Fightin Copper Back at the dock
  2. ...investing in the future...I like it! Get her hooked so she can chip in toward the boat! awesome report wayne! [ Post made via Android ]
  3. An arm-span between Dipsey and Spinny so you can net fish. I use 30# Mono b/w Dipsey and Spinny. The Dipsey presentation is not a very stealthy one, so the 50# floro fly-leader is sufficient. This set-up is to mimic a school of bait bish (Spinny) with a lone baitfish trailing behind (Fly). The fish is focused on the fly so the leader b/w Dipsey and spinny shouldn't be an issue.
  4. Apb, Nick is right on. I like to stay away from the braid because it is terrible with the fleas. You do want to use a wire-line with the dipseys for the reason you mentioned...stretch. If you use mono, the fish won't trip the dipsey as easily when it hits. You want to keep your drag nice and loose so when the fish hits it can pull some line out. I lose fish if the drag isn't loose.
  5. Launched the lil tin boat at deans around 7pm and fished until 9. the plan was to run 2 riggers/2 wires/1 copper/1leadcore...when I hit the launch I realized I forgot the riggers!....Ooops! Haven't fished cayuga in over a month so I was thankfull for the other posts that gave me a place to start. we pointed north. With just the wires and junk lines we went 5/7 in 2 hrs. Yellow killer spoon, kelly green/glow spinny/ and pearl white spinny took fish. wires were 330 and 240 and fish were caught in200-250 FOW. Tight lines! -Jason [ Post made via Android ]
  6. Hal. When stacking rods on a rigger you want to keep in mind the distance between releases and the length from the release to the lure. If you have 10 ft from ball to lure and the stacked line is only 5 ft above, when letting the ball down, the bottom line can tangle your stacked line because it reaches by 5 ft. So you want a short lead on the bottom, and you want the stacked rod to be above the ball by AT LEAST the length from the ball to lure of bottom rod. Also, If you run a really long lead on the stacked rod and get a fish on the bottom rod, chances are good he'll get tangled in the stacked rod. I prefer to run sliders and cheaters now instead of stacking rods because of the tangle issue. I agree with the above comments on putting the release above the ball. You will get less blowback because you aren't lifting the ball with your rigger rod.

  11. Friday and saturday we got into the fish good catching all four species but this was a derby and we were looking for that big fish. I've been fishing this derby since I was a little kid and while I've been on the board a time or two, have not once placed. So the plan for Sunday was to fish deep water and look for the weight. In years past, we pulled some heavier fish away from the bait by fishing the temp break over the deep water. Sunday started out rough as my engine would not turn over. It seems electrical (starter, battery connections, etc) tried jumping with another battery and it didn't roll over so not wanting towaste time, I fired the kicker motor and trolled sticks out of the canal at the North end. We picked a nice 4# brown on a blue and silver yozuri stick before switching to a deep water program. While we did pick a few heavier fish, we did not find that one to put us on the board. Monday got worse as we fought with the steering unit for the kicker...the ball for the connecting rod came off one end (threads stripped out)..so we were steering by the tiller handle while trying to set lines, keep the boat straight, etc....we picked about 6 fish before the storm soaked us and sent us packing...all-in-all we still had a great time and caught 53 fish fri-monday. I think the highlight was picking this 6# rainbow on the way in 8:45 Sunday night. My only regret was not getting off the lake earlier on Friday to chat with some of you at Sampson...congrats to Jeremy (tripledeuce) for winning Big Fish Friday! We didn't take many pics but here are a couple:
  12. We hit the seneca slam 2 days in a row which in years past has been very difficult (for me) at the north end. I have to say I'm liking this 3 rod rule. The junk lines took our fish mid-day. The usual colors on flasher/flys and spoons took lakers in the am and evening. Good luck to everyone! Fri we boated 13 and today we boated 24...we dropped quite a few as well. now time to sleep fast!....btw most fish caught were 60-70 down over all depths. glows in the am/eve...bright stuff mid day. 13. I updated the roster at the top...lets say 5 am will be the cutoff.
  14. Excellent! It looks like you have the boat set up nice too! You have the back open to net fish. My family is supposed to camp there with another family...I may be hitting you up this summer for tips! [ Post made via Android ]
  15. I'm sure sean has sent you some good advice. He has helped me before as well. At the speed you are running, make sure the swivel is attached to the front hole of the spinny. I can tell you I had a triple one time all flasher/flies. I was trolling with a buddy and both wire divers got hit as I was hooking a flasher/fly to the rigger release. I set the pole down and reeled one wire while my friend reeled the other. We were racing to see whose fish would get netted first when the flasher skimming the top of the water 15' behind the boat gets hit! Obviously this was a crazy fluke (I happened to be in a hot spot when fish were active). Like any lure...get the presentation right, put it in front of the fish, and give it time.
  16. That is a BEAST of a bow! Nice job!
  17. Sign up for the big fish friday and meet us straight across the lake at Sampson. Bewteen us all I'm sure we could sell you everything that doesn't catch fish for us!
  18. There used to be a tackle shop in Penn Yan where the Keuka Outlet comes into town. The guy ran it out of his basement. This is going back 25 years...anyone over there hear if he's still in business?
  19. Glad to hear you're in Ray...bummer about your son. Better talk to him about priorities! Are you in for Friday?
  20. Great report! Nice goin!
  21. Ah that's right! The "2nd SUCKS!" Trophy! Can't pay 2nd...it would violate the trophy! So $20/boat and 7:30 pm at Sampson. Nice goin on the shootout news! I know you did a lot of work on that Nick. Good news on steering Wayne...pulled my outdrive today and pressure tested...held specified poundage so I threw it back on the boat...will keep a close eye on the oil and change it to get me through weekend if neccesary. 22. Let's do the big fish take all again...any takers? Suggestion on how much? What time to weigh in? I'm slippin at the north end so I can drive down again by car. Haven't heard much of lil jake this year...he did a good job with this last year. -Jason Roster(Updated 8am 5/22): Zebedee Stoutner(new boatname: "Tinkerbell" give him a shout on 68!) 23. Congrats on the new ride! Doin the derby this year? [ Post made via Android ]
  24. Priceless! Way to go! [ Post made via Android ]
  25. I agree with all of the above. I have been fishing on other people's boats with the exception of a few trips in the lil tin boat for browns. Took my shakedown last Thursday to discover my lower unit was leaking! Looks like a quick seal kit next weekend because work, school, and mother's day has this weekend gone already! Nothing like pressure (trout derby) to get a job done! [ Post made via Android ]
