  1. Great report! Maggie's a trooper for getting on the water so early!
  2. Thanks all! It's a blast fishing out of hughes...we hit the browns pretty good in the spring there too (Lost a derby brown at the back of the boat)...It's amazing what a good fishery we have. Hans, That's why I sent you the txts, so you can fish vicariously! You're doing the good stuff with that new little one at home. That's why I won't be out tomorrow...In church w/the family. (Vince..I'll be praying for wind!) If any of you guys are available tomorrow, sneek out w/Brett...He's a blast to fish with! Just watch out when a rod fires! He'll run you over!
  3. I was fishing with Bretter out of Hughes today in the swells and hooked up with this 23# 1oz King on the Wire out 300 over 180 Green Crush Spin Dr. and Green glow Atomic Fly.
  4. (Little Brown) : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (7/3/09) Time on Water: (5:00 AM – 9:00 PM) Temp/Weather: (60's) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW ) Waves: (Rough) Surface Temp: (??) Location: (Hughes Marina) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (2/2 Total Boated: (2 Species Breakdown: (1 Kings, 1 Bows) Hot Lure: (White and black Stinger, Green w/Crush Glow Spindoctor with Green-Glow A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.4 mph) Down Speed: (?) Boat Depth: (150-180ft) Lure Depth: (60-100 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== (I sent some txt msgs last night to Brett to see if he wanted to fish today...When the alarm went off ay 3:10 am I noticed I had 3 msgs in reply....they went something like this: 1)Get online and check the wave height.....2) I think it's going to be too rough....3) I'll go if you want to!...It is good to have a fishing buddy that has the same disease!...Yes my name is Jason and I'm a fishaholic!) So we ventured out of Hughes at 5am, set the riggers down 40 and pointed Little Brown North. Even though the compass said North, the GPS said NorthEast (The wind and waves were brutal!) We marked pockets of fish here and there and some bait in about 150 when the rigger broke free and started peeling line...Brett grabbed the pole and started reeling...i cleared lines when I saw how hard he was fighting (every 50 ft of gain it would peel more line). As we got it to the boat, we were pretty dissapointed to see an 8# Steelie had tail-wrapped itself...still a nice fish though. (2.3 GPS on a NE troll, Black and white w/white belly stinger down 60 over 150). We set lines back up and pointed west into the waves when the wire out 300 on a 2 1/2 over 180 starts screamin line! It didn't stop until it hit 530 and then the 1/2 hr battle took place...I would gain 50 ft and he would take 30! we had him within 20 ft of the boat what seemed like a dozen times but he just wouldn't get w/in net range until finally we boated a nice 23# King. I've been fishing the Big O for 2 1/2 years now (still a rookie) and this is my first Derby King! What a rush! Thanks Brett for getting me out! I know there's a good chance she won't hold the board, but it's great seeing my name up there!
  5. Way to go! I just crack up at the names of those Big Weenie Fly's! I might have to pick some up just to have fun writing the reports! I bet it was good to get on the water again!
  6. Wow...That was a long troll. Did you follow the west side or troll straight over the middle?
  7. Where's the green can? Is there a channel marker across the lake from Dean's? I know there is one to the north where the 90 FOW comes up to 30 on the East side...Is that the can you're talking about? What color stinger?
  8. I think it may be for the Hobart sailing team? I had to lift a planer board lin over it as I came close to it as well...we all had our attention at the back of the boat unhooking a fish and re-setting lines and didn't even realize it was there. You're right...it's right in the middle of the lake. Lucky I didn't have my wire-diver out on that side of the boat or I would have snagged it! My brother-in-law has some leave from the army and is coming up this weekend...I hope to get him out there!
  9. Great post! I'm glad to hear the bite is on the east side! After three Sk*nks (It's a dirty word!) in a row during the derby on that side of the lake I have been afraid of it! I will definately hit that water next time I'm out.
  10. I was up until 1:00 last night re-tying all my leaders, Dipseys, etc....I didn't get Ray's post in time and ended up buying some Seaguar abraz-x flourocarbon for my leaders and big game for the dipseys. If this gives me problems I will pick up some p-line as Ray suggested
  11. I have 7 Penn 209 reels, 2 ADP47LC's as my wire divers, and recently I picked up 3 Sealine 47LC's Can I use any of these for leadcore or copper?
  12. Ray...Headed to Bass pro tonight...I saw on another post that you are running 20# between dipsey and spinney. Is that flouro or Mono?
  13. Justin...watch the classified selling thread of this forum...ocassionally there is a guy on there that sells them for $25 Ray...Yeah I gathered you taught Jason a thing or two about a thing or two...I could here you during the derby.."Go to the other channel!" So what line do you run between your dipsey and Spinney? I've had the Ontario bug myself...Got out Saturday with bretter out of hughes but we were 0/1...tough day of fishin. BTW...throw me on the roster for that January freeze fishing!
  14. I got out by myself last night for an evening trip and worked that 25-40 FOW in front of the Belhurst. Here's my rowboat setup: 1st pass hooked up with a small laker on a NK28 Orange Crush down 16 over 25FOW Then the Glow frog Spin Dr/Blue dolphin fly fired out 40 over 30 FOW I lost this set-up shortly after when I hooked up with a head-shaker in front of the country club...snapped the leader between the dipsey and the spinney The only line I had in my box was some 17 lb Flourocarbon (Berkley vanish) so I rigged up a new leader and put a green/silver pro-troll e-chip out and hooked up with another fish in 40 FOW out 55 on a 2 1/2 setting only to have the same thing happen again! So now I'm crying about $30 worth of tackle when the rigger fires (32 down over 37 FOW) with a NK28 Green NBK So I finished 3/5 and still had a great time on the water in spite of tackle issues. Water temp in the trench (Belhurst Hole) was 52 Deg and over that 25-40 FOW was 57 deg I have to admit reading this forum makes me itch for the water all the more!
  15. I've been running 10's myself but I just bought some 15# balls for when the lakers are deeper.
  16. Justin...I don't run a Victrolla rig. I run the spin dr.s off the riggers and dipsey divers.
  17. I have difficulty with that later morning/midday bite myself. From people I've talked to it sounds like the fish like it slower as they are right on the bottom (non-feeding time) and not very aggresive but will hit if you put it in front of their face. The guys that pull copper are usually about 1.5-1.8 gps speed (feel free to jump in here Blueghost!) and let out their copper till they feel it hit bottom and pull up a couple feet to start jigging. As far as color...Whites and silvers work good early and then greens and coppers work well when the sun is up. Last year I could go out any time of day and put a Mnt dew spin dr and green or glow fly down 5 ft off the bottom and pull fish all times of day...I'm not doing as well with this set-up this year.
  18. That's great! I have a couple friends that laugh at me when I tell them there is a website where fishermen share information. This site has totally changed my fishing game. I could pull lakers before with sawbelly's still-fishin but trolling I was lucky to have a 1 or 2 fish day. Now I think my best day was 19. It helps to be able to "watch" the fish move by reading others reports even if you can't make it out for a couple weeks. That way you aren't going out blind. I have also enjoyed trying other's methods that work for other people. Some day I'll get up into those 20 and 30 fish days like Ray K & Jason!
  19. Nice report!
  20. No...no fleas yet. I have to say I thought about those two copper rigs that are buried in my shed! They were working the same water pulling fish and I couldn't buy a bite that last hour and a half!
  21. North End was TERRIBLE this AM! Patches of floating weeds everywhere! It definately kept me busy and I pulled my planers after the second clean. Once I got south of the Country Club the surface seemed to clear. Don't know how this applies to you at Sampson other than we had a North wind when I left the lake.
  22. Got out at 4:30 for a couple hours before my dentist appt. 4/4 2 early were on top Stinger glow wonderbread down 15 over 40 FOW & Glow frog Spin Dr. w/ Glow Fly out 50 over 40FOW The same two set-ups picked fish off the bottom around 7:00 There was a boat with a red canvas picking lakers like crazy jigging copper in about 25 FOW in front of the Belhurst
  23. (Bretter/Little Brown) : Fishing Report [/small][/black/purple/Bloody Nose] ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (6/13-14) Time on Water: (5:00 AM – 11:00 PM) Temp/Weather: (76°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (Hughes) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (4, etc.) Total Boated: (2) Species Breakdown: (2 Kings) Hot Lure: (Bloody Nose NK28,Black w/ Purple tape-White belly NK28) Trolling Speed: (2.3 mph) Down Speed: (?) Boat Depth: (120-150 ft) Lure Depth: (60 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== (Getting used to this new format so bear with me....Got out Saturday AM with Bret, his dad Vince, and my dad Terry. We marked fish between 130 and 150 and all our hits came at 130 60 ft down. Bloody noseNK28 took 3 hits and I forget what the 4th was...Black and silver stinger? All hits were off the riggers...couldn't buy a diver bite. Brett texted me this am about yesterdays trip with his buddy Tom. They caught a 5# steelie that was dancin across the water, a 5# Laker, and Tom reeled in this 6.93KG King Brett got his scale stuck on metric! )
