  1. Flasher/flies work well...Green or white do best I like to run Watermelon, blue or green dolphin, NBK, basically everything has green in it, wobbles, and is the size of a sawbelly. Early morning will have a lot of suspended fish so start your program toward the top and adjust as necessary.
  2. Justin, I machined the spool and handle myself and I have a box...all I need is the motor so $450 is a little steep for me. But if your buddy has a motor he'd be willing to part with let me know. Congrats on the new boat...show us pics when yo0u get it! -Jason
  3. Thanks! I just might take you up on that some time. This Saturday my dad and I are going out of Hughes with Brett...I'm getting that Salmon itch myself! A couple years ago I made my dad a victrola rig. The only problem with it is that it was only a one spring motor so it doesn't have very good tension. I'll have to keep my eye out for a motor with more springs because my dad likes tearing his fingers up too!
  4. I want to get one of these set-ups myself....Irish...does dropping the weight off the swivel take away from the action of the dodger that you see in your rod tip? How long of a leader do you run from 3-way to the dodger?
  5. I need blue and green with black dots and white belly (The middle size)...I found the color pattern in the small and bigger sizes but they just don't do as well. I left mine at the mouth of Maxwell this spring....was my best lure!
  6. Good for you! I can definately relate! I have girls ages 5, 4, and 1 1/2 so I know what that is all about! A friend of mine lives on the West side north of Dean's Cove and caught a real nice brown (Didn't weigh it but took a pic before releasing it) in 25 FOW trolling a silver/copper belly flutter spoon 10 down on the rigger. I've heard of a few rainbow up that way on some Blue/SilverYozuri sticks as well. I haven't hit Cayuga yet this year myself. Don't worry...pretty soon those boys will be First mates! (Of course they'll be looking for a cut!)
  7. Wow! You're OLD SCHOOL! I won't laugh too loud though! You put more fish in the boat.
  8. Are you hand-lining w/a victrola rig or running a copper rod down the chute?
  9. Nice Job Troller! Next year I'm running up my pirates flag!
  10. Thanks jboock & cdgn troller!
  11. I wasn"t able to make it out Sunday (Nor to the ceremony) Can someone post final weights?
  12. Got out with bretter on Saturday aboard "Little Brown" (Brown Starcraft). Boated 5 lakers but biggest was 5 1/2 on the scales. We fished the north end in front of German Bros most fish came off the dipseys out 150-180 over 80 FOW White flasher/Fly did the best...Didn't make it out Sunday.
  13. Just a heads up...I went to Roy's Marina in Geneva to register and although they have registration forms, they aren't taking money. I drove up to Seager Marine in Canandaigua. Wasn't sure if there were any other late registrants like myself. Called Al in woodville and he said next year they will have some collectors in the Geneva-Waterloo area.
  14. Nice Job! I'm going to give the canandaigua derby a go this Sat....we'll see how it goes!
  15. Awesome Sean! I have 3 girls myself and can't wait to watch em reel in a nice fish! I have to get them out soon! What reels are you running? I'm surprised they could handle the weight! BTW...Saw your post introducing the new rig....Sweet ride! I really like the Tackle storage system also!
  16. I'll be in a 14 ft rowboat with a honda tiller...pre-fished Sat am with a skunk (That's 3 in a row now! Starting to take it personal!) I don't have a radio on it so just splash me with your wake and I'll know you're LOU! I was out there from 5-10 Sat AM...went South past the 2 marinas along the west side...we had one on the Wire (NK 28 Spook out 110 on a #3 over 100 FOW) that shook the hook before we got em to the boat. Then another release with nobody home off a point further south that has a creek that flows out the southern side. Good Luck!
  17. My dad has a Garmin 350? and it takes G-charts that are no longer available from the manufacturer....Does anyone have one for Lake Ontario and Fingerlakes?
  18. At least it happened at the END of the derby!...Wonder what went through her mind after she realized kids were ok?
  19. Congatulations
  20. There I go having to spend more money again! I bought the 9 1'2 ft Heartlands for my wires....That stiffer rod taking up slack makes sense...Thanks again Ray!
  21. Well Friday we were still rigging up my dad's boat for fishing....here we are ripping the back seat out and installing electrical connectors. (If someone ever has the bright idea of putting cigarette adapters for downrigger connections, tell them don't do it!...not enough amperage) We started Sat am picking fish as usual on the same stuff....Here's me with the first fish of the derby Little did I know I would struggle the rest of the weekend...We ended up only putting 6 fish on the boat all weekend with a skunk for sunday pm and Monday. we fought a lot of blow-back on the cables making it hard to put the presentation where we wanted it. I did enough cryin on the radio so I will just end with another pic to remind me what they look like. \ It was great talking to you guys and fishing side by side...I even saw the beloved Pegasus pulling in lines before running into Sampson Sunday lunch-time Sorry I didn't make it down to the campsites to say Hi...I was pretty shot by the time we were off the lake. Had a great time with my dad...I am forever gratefull he got me into Hunting/fishing...Tripledeuce, I know you will create some of these memories taking your boy up to the canadaigua derby....Good luck! BTW...Congrats to Home Office for putting the fish on the board! Already looking forward to next year!
  22. As a machinist...that term is definately hitting my vocabulary! I can't get any of my Ontario fishing buddies to come down for the derby...too much about combat fishing...blah, blah ,blah....but it is funny to watch them on Lake O worry about a boat that is a half a mile ahead of them....I guess they just need to go to "precision trolling" school! Was out last night for a quick shakedown cruise...still playing with downrigger mounts and speed. I can't seem to get my dad's 454 to idle down enough. I found a sea anchor in the garage that got us down to 3 mph...I may have to scare up another. Picked up 2 in the short time we were out 20 down over 75 Mnt dew Spin dr./Green fly and a green dolphin.
  23. I'll be out of Seneca Lake state park but would gladly make the run to Sampson to meet some of the LOU Crew! Who's got the evening campfire and cooler?
  24. You noticed that too!
