While big kids had soccer and dance, hit the lake w/ the little ones and they were glad to get out on the water for first time this year. With their help driving, setting lines, and monitoring the snack bag we landed three fish. Two fish on Smithwick sticks (blue/silver/orange, black/silver/orange), one on J-9 black and silver - bigger seemed to be the ticket for us today. Great day with great fishing partners!!
Yes, that's a cast on her leg - quite the trooper and boat driver!
With sister in a cast, he's hard to beat to the rod!

Shakedown cruise, great day on the water! Normal partners all had plans but couldn't pass up the good weather so went alone, always interesting driving while landing fish. Hit the 7.5 lb er at 1030 and the small one around 1145, both in about 15-20 feet of water close to a break.
I went to Butterfield yesterday am 8-1230 or so, very slow. I caught several little ones and one 3-4 lb. Caught the bigger one on a watermelon beaver in 12-15 ft water, off a deep weed edge. I did get into some crappie last week as well.

Headed down to Saratoga Springs from Ft. Drum for a soccer tournament on Saturday am and considering whether it's worth dragging the boat to hit Saratoga Lake? Anyone have any recommendations for Saratoga or any other lakes in the area?
Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks

Saw your posts while looking for fishing info for Canada. I'm looking to drive up from Watertown, NY 22-25 May for some smallmouth fishing, what lake would you recommend?
Looking at the new Lowrance HDS series and they list two dual freq transducer options, 83/200 and 50/200, which would be better for Lake O fishing?
They describe the 83/200 as "for water 900' or less" and the 50/200 for deep water/off shore.

I'm looking to upgrade my fishfinder to a Lowrance 500 series but wondered about the difference in watts and the types of transducers.
For watts - how much difference does 2500 watts vs 4000 watts make when trolling?
For transducer - one has a 50/200 khz transducer and one has a 200 khz transducer?
Is it worth the extra money for greater watts and teh 50/200 khz transducer?
thanks

Caught our first king on a wire dipsy setup in the Trench out of Henderson Harbor this pm. 23 lbs, 270 back on 2, 115 fow, grn sd, green/silver fly.
Appreciate all the info gleaned from this site, awesome to score our first time out!
Yes, we forgot the big net at home, but we made it work!

I have a diawa 27LC and an Okuma MAG20PRO and wondered if I can get enough wire on them to use for a dipsy set-up so I don't have to buy two more reels?
Yesterday, I caught a bullhead while fishing with my wife and kids just off the river channel east of Wellesley Island State Park that weighed 10 lbs 7 oz on my digital scales and was longer than my 24" fish ruler! Being from the south, I knew it was a pretty good fish but didn't think much of it as we took a few pics and released it back into the lake - then I read on-line tonight that it would have qualified as a NY State Record! I know it wasn't a channel cat, but I'm not sure whether it was a brown or a black bullhead. All the pics were on a disposable 35mm camera, so no pics for now. We were fishing for minnows and bass w/ crawdads and minnows when it started taking line on the old Zebco 33. Definitely made for a good afternoon.
