    Best advice I can give having done the rodeo once, taking time off and coming back is get some confidence in one or two spoons. Go out knowing this spoon get hits and always put it down. Once you have that confidence playing with the rest of your setup is not very stressful because you know you have a proven lure working for you and if the fish are there you will get hits. The other lures and setups become the bonus and when they starting going off you got more lures and setups to add to your confidence list. But the best thing to keep in mind is keep it simple, don't try to get fancy getting more rods out just use what you have setup and get confidence in your setup. I would avoid playing games with weights on flat lines for now, use your riggers and dipseys and build from a base setup.

    Thank for the kind words Larry it was a pleasure having you out there and it was nice having another experienced person on the boat. Twenty years off the big lake things are slowly coming back to me and I am slowly learning the new stuff. Every trip has been chip away a few here and there but I will take consistent catches every trip. Jeremy I can only imagine the fun you had in a smaller boat early on, I am glad things laid down for you but it sounds like your bite left with the waves. Our nose kept getting pushed around to the point autopilot was not worth the trouble. We marked a lot of bait and some hooks when we first got out around five but could buy much, but about 7 is when things turned on for us. That just shows the craziness that chasing these fish are, one guys get hits right next to a guy getting nothing, a few hours changes and it reverses. Good lesson that when one guy reports the bite died, doesn't mean fish can't be caught by others.

    Thanks Bob, it's nice to have a boat again and be in the game on the lake. I am relearning what I forgot and having to learn a bunch of new stuff, thank god for LOU and a neighbor (Missdemeanor) who has been very kind and patient in helping me get back on the right track. I am glad to hear you are sneaking back up here to get some time on the water. hopefully you hook into some nice fish and enjoy your water time.

    Saw quite a few mylar balloons out on the lake on Sunday. Gotta remember what goes up eventually comes down.

    Well we brought our first big King of the year in. We started in shallow looking for Browns, no luck but feathers and garbage on the lines so we started heading deep. My wife pulled a nice 7 lb coho in 440 ft on a 10 color lead cot 7 colors out, on a red and silver stinger. Quiet but the flies eating us next hour until that same setup got us a screamer in 525 feet. Nice 19.5 king. Going to stick it out her a bit longer and then start heading in.     Went out from 5 PM to 8 PM last night to see what we could put on the boat. Started out deep at about 425 feet and out to 480 before turning back in to call it a night, few marks on the graph and surface temps were in the high 50s. We were lucky enough to go 2-3 with a small 7 lb king and a 11 lb laker. Both fish came of riggers with 45 feet and 60 feet being the depth. The fishhawk showed us the target temp moved anywhere from about 35 feet deep to 60 depending on location. We also kept a lure or two hgher and we did get one hit of lead with 9 colors out. The was a line of water we moved through on our way out in around 100 feet with a lot of garbage trapped in it but we decided to bypass and go deeper. All be careful of the junk mixed in was some decent pieces of wood.

    I bought two of these this year and both had spooling issues. The first we were able to to fix but the second one had the first 20 yards bound all they way down to the backing and ending up being a total waste. Fish USA did stand behind the one reel by offering to either refund the reel or send me a 1000 feet of Malin wire for me to spool. It's a great deal but be aware that the deal is only good as the employee spooling the wire. The wire when I bought was American Fishing Wire but replaced with Malin as mentioned above.

    I grabbed Chinooker's boat he had on sale up here and he has been a great guy to deal with. We took her out for a shakedown a week ago for two hours after work had a little issue with speed and stalling got advice from Chinooker and Missdemeanor the boat is running much better now. Today, I convinced my wife and daughter to go fishing and we got a bit of a late start. We went 2-3 fishing from 10:00 AM to 2 PM. Very happy to say my daughter kicked kicked the skunk off the boat by getting the first fish ever on our new boat . It was a small shaker king on a 7 color leadcore . My wife followed that up a healthy laker on the same leadcore. Lost another just after that and things went quiet. All fish came of a silver spoon with red ladder-back. It is so great to be back in the game and starting to put fish on the boat! A big thanks to Matt for all his help with getting all my rods rigged up and for the leadcore that produced so well today and helping with the boat issue. Tight lines and good luck!

    Yeah but it seems using "dead scent" should be pretty minimal risk, my guess is it would be derived from mostly if not completely natural resources. From what I read they just want to steer the lampreys away from most streams using dead scent to repel them. Then just leave a few smaller streams without the scent to actually get the lamprey and thus be able to target those streams using traditional methods to eradicate them. Seems like big win because, less stream get the traditional chemicals, smaller streams need less of the chemical because of amount of water to chemical ratio thus saving money and there is now no exposure of the lampricide chemicals used in streams not treated is, thus lessening the risk to non targeted species. Also add that since there are less streams with lamprey in them, and those that do get them will be in higher concentrations meaning more effective eradication and the cost ratio is better per lamprey treated. Seemingly this is very good.

    That cottonwood cotton is a nightmare. We have three massive trees at the family cottage at conesus and the ground looks like snow in January from that stuff some years. Mind as well shutdown fishing as it follows up everything when it gets that bad.

    I remember taking his fishing class with Bruce years ago, up until my last move I still had handouts from the class. I remember my catch rate going up after it most importantly.
