  1. Sean, are you using 20 and 30 when your running two wires of each side?
  2. I am starting to got through the gear for this year. I am seriously considering switching to 20lbs wire vs 30 for the added depth. I have run malin wire for the past 3 years and have had zero complaints. What is your choice of the wire manufactures we have now? I am leaning towards a camo wire. Your thoughts appreciated. I have heard good things about torpedo and bloodrun.
  3. skinnyskins, what the manufacture of the rod? I have run diawa and okuma and to be honest these people have been more than accommodating. With both manufactures I asked for return shipping labels and they sent them to me. With in a couple weeks I had the replacements. I understand your frustration but as a business owner myself in NY we all have policies in place to ultimately keep the doors open and make a few bucks. I personally have never been to this store but I am sure it more of a "labor of love" then a get rich business. We all need to understand that it is essential to support local businesses and by offering them support we must also realize that sometimes is not financially possible to offer the same return policy as big box stores. You are entitled to your opinion and yes you did experience a little inconvenience but I sure that if you a questionable warranty issue (breaking off the tip of the rod on accident) the business owner would go to bat for you. Just my two cents and FYI as a resident of Binghamton, where we do not have a tackle store that carries trolling equipment, I would not be quick to complain.
  4. Two summers ago we fished one of the tournaments and I assumed I had a 1st place LL but it didn't look right. Upon weighing it in with Barney, it was determined to be a seaforellen brown. Still was worth a few bucks but in the brown category it was not a 1st place fish. They are out there just few and far between.
  5. Diawa sealine Lcx in the 47 size. I have not had one yet give me a problem. I run these for wire and riggers. The okuma magna's are great for cores. And I just switched all my copper to tekotas in the appropriate size. My least favorite or the okuma just a personal preference.
  6. FYI Take a look at the latest info on the power plant. http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs. ... 2201030354
  7. I am looking for some recommendations on good fiberglass guys. My neighbor had a tree fall on his boat. The damage appears to be all cosmetic, nothing even close to the water line. I am talking with the insurance co on a buy price? I would like to know how deep I will have to dig in my pocket for the repair? Any help would be appreciated. John
  8. Happy holidays to all fellow anglers. Winter has been kind to us so far, the wife and I have been banging out jobs at our cottage. I figure the more "honey do" jobs I can get done is the more time to fish in spring. Lets hope 2012 creates bigger and better memories than 2011!
  9. Good job, must the painting is slowing down? I wish I get out their, until the ground is covered in the white stuff gotta work! I'm sure I'll catch you around town. John
  10. Their is someone provide similar products on rt 96 in Catatonk, just out side of owego. Maybe save some shipping or driving?
  11. Dave, c and s marine did right by me. They are in vestal.
  12. Small heater with a thermostat and fan all in one would probably dry out slowly, leave the cover on with only a small area for ventilation. I would keep moving the heater to below floor compartment. In all honesty if it the original floor it should be pressure treated and is designed to be wet over and over. Drying it out from the bottom up should suffice.
  13. Dave yamaha 9.9 ht pushes my 23 Larson no problem even in the strongest wind. I installed the troll master pro to dial her in and ray marine auto pilot. If you need any assistance Kevin Jerge who is a phenomenal electronics guy from the Wilson boat yard is living down here in vestal for the winter. He would be the guy to talk to. Call me if you need anything.
  14. Plan and simple, both copper and dispels are stealthier presentations. It also allows you to run a larger spread, more rods.
  15. Cheryl and I send our condolences for your loss.
  16. Just another in which mother nature can be as cruel as she wants and we left to deal with the aftermath.
  17. Pictures? Age of boat? Ball park price?
  18. I am a big fan of roller rods when fishing wire. I have had good luck with the diawa heartlands but now I found out okuma is making them. My arsenal consists of okuma convectors or diawa heartlands. Both awesome performing for me. Which roller rod would you choose? And before you say it, you could not pay me cut a rod and fish a twilley tip. Roller rods are so much smoother on the deployment and retrieval.
  19. Otter boats. Play with your knot location on the boards tether and it will harder or easier. Personally I run up to 600 copper and a 10 color off the same board and they run great. Also the visibility is awesome. The only draw back is they will not take the abuse of bouncing them off the the docks.
  20. Great minds think alike, I pulled the boat last weekend. It was an awesome season. I'm already making plans for next season.
  21. Jerge did my boat swell this spring. Never be with out it again. He will steer you in the right direction. No pun intended.
  22. Looks like a "reunion"! Should be interesting to where the fish are. Two weeks some did great and some did nothing.
  23. I have been in the same boat as you, no pun intended. Things are finally leveling off on the work load end. Just devastating in some of these neighborhoods. I will be next weekend Sat, Sun and Mon. Hope for some nice weather, although my wife told me if she's going I need to bring the Mr Heater". I'll be the guy in shorts and tank top when I come out from under the canopy. She will have it 95 degrees in there!
  24. V. I agree with everything you mentioned. These rods are rigged exactly the same, I am meticulous about this. The only place I can think there is an inconsistency is possibly the amount of backing. Another thought is the sheath on the older lead core is obviously faded and possibly the more worn equals more flexible so it runs through the water differently?
  25. Does lead core break down over time? Reason I ask is I have been going over my logs from this past year and the lead core I have fished for the last 5years was dramatically out performed by the new lead core. Both are 10 colors and often run the same lure if something is working. I have switched them to opposite sides of the boat off the big boards. Any thoughts would be appreciated. John
