  1. Again, it doesn't say you have to run 3 rods. Maybe those who don't like it should only use 1 rod to compensate. After all, running 2 rods must in some way be worse than running 1.
  2. Good idea. I also have one of those mini air horns that they use at sports events. They are cheap.
  3. Same here. I have to take mine apart every spring. Sometimes I dont find anything in there but it always seems to work when I put it back together. Mine also has a little adjustment screw on it. Sometimes that will fix it.
  4. I don't know why I keep reading about this post. I know how angry I'm going to be every time I do. It's so frustrating the crap our elected officials stuff down our throats. Next thing you know they will exempt themselves from having to use the stuff and vote themselves another pay increase for coming up with such a great idea! And we will be stupid enough to put them back in Washington again when election time comes!
  5. It's not that tough to fish with 9 or 10 rods without tangles when using the boards. When guiding 4 clients, we would run 4 per side and one or two flat lines off the back or shallow set riggers. For me, the law will help when it's just me and my wife. Two extra lines will help locate the fish quicker. It will allow us to run three or four riggers and still put out two divers. For some people that might be too much but we can handle it just fine. After all, it doesn't say you must run 3 lines.
  6. If you're looking for a legally trailerable, rugged boat, see if you can find a Penn Yan 255 Intruder. Thats about as good a trailerable fishing boat as you will find. I had one and had to sell it due to a family illness. That's best boat I ever owned. You should be able to find one easily for between 20 and 30K in great shape.
  7. I have the LMS520C and had transducer troubles. So far I've only been able to get one season out of a transducer. They replaced it for me twice. I've been told if it goes again, which I imagine it will, to get an Airmar transducer and the problems will be over. So, the next time it fails, I'll be looking into that. I've also been told that the Airmar will do much better at tracking fish. As for your unit shutting down over 15MPH, if you are referring to not showing depth or bottom, it might be because you tipped your transducer back too far. At high speed it is probably getting air under the transducer.
  8. I've been searching to see how this turned out in NY. Have they passed it yet in NY?
  9. Pretty sure its a whitefish. Caught a couple one day in July while trolling for salmon on NK28's. They were both about that same size.
  10. I got out of there this spring with my 22 foot starcraft and they were getting out with 26 foot thompsons. The water was higher when I was at Henderson a couple weeks ago, so I'd think you'd be fine. Just don't cut too near the inside bends on those two turns just before you can see out into the lake.
  11. Sounds like you are talking about the crimpless walker terminator that has the release built into it like the blacks release. I've used that one and the walker crimpless terminators without the release with no issues. However, I'm usually using 13 pound weights but with my wingers, I'd say I'm creating at least as much pressure on the swivel as the 15 pound weight. For my probe rigger, I drill out or cut off the rivet and replace the swivel with a heavier one using a small bolt and locking nut through the hole were the rivet was.
  12. Replace the swivels with stronger ones. Is the swivel part of your release or the one on your terminator? What type of terminators are you using?
  13. I have them for planer board rods and I like them for that because they are quick to adjust. I sometimes will stick a downrigger rod it them if I need to move rods around to open up the back to net a fish. I don't put anything in them with much stress on it though. I'll have to take a look at them to see if I can see any potential future problems coming.
  14. I've got some extra 11' ones I'm looking to get rid of: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=16452
  15. There are people out there that will do anything. Some people brought in a salmon at the Henderson Salmon Spectacular. It was stuffed full of ice. The person weighing the fish noticed it and held the fish up by its tail and the ice fell out. The guy said the fish ate it after he put it in the cooler. Should have been DQ'd in my opinion. I personally didn't see this but was told about it by someone who did. Not sure if they won anything or not. Must make a guy real proud to win something after having had to cheat to do it.
  16. The 898 has side imaging so he's probably using a different transducer. Mine has the transom mount dual beam transducer (XNT 9 20 T). Maybe it's just those transducers and all the guys who are not having troubles are using defferent transducers. At any rate, I'm returning it today and then I'll make a decision on what to replace it with.
  17. If this is just a bad batch of tranducers as American-Honey was told, then how come guys with the 800's, 900's, 1100's aren't having the same problems? Looking at the tranducers on their web site, it looks like they all use the same transducers. Maybe those guys aren't using the duel beam transducers? Is anyone having issues with anything other than the dual beam? Billy, have you heard anything in reply to the email that you sent to them? I'd consider upgrading from my 700 series to the 800 if I thought the problem didn't exist there too but it looks to me like if I just go with a combo unit with dual beam, I'm going to end up with the same transducers that are failing.
  18. I checked my slip from Cabela's and my purchase date was 6/4/10. They have a 60 day return policy on electronics and today is day number 60. I'm heading there soon. I'd like to keep it, hoping that they would get this transducer issue corrected because I really like the unit but I'm not going to risk being stuck with a unit that has to have a new transducer every time I turn around. I've already had a couple of those. You'd think they would have put a few of these on some charter boats to be tested for a while before they put them out for us to buy. Then they could get these problems ironed out before they sell them to hundreds or thousands of boaters who are all going to end up giving them bad publicity. I've still got my lowrance unit on the boat so I'll use that for now and look at my options. Maybe they will correct this problem and I can get another one or maybe I'll just go get a Furuno 620. Maybe I can even talk myself into the Furuno 585. I don't really need the bigger screen but I like that is has double the verticle pixels over the 620 for better resolution.
  19. Add my new 788C to the junk pile! Just put it on earlier this summer. It crapped out on me at the beginning of my 10 day trip to Henderson. I was just crossing my fingers that I didn't loose another transducer on my Lowrance or that would have been the end of that trip. How can they sell crap like this without testing it enough to find out these flaws? I don't know anyone who has one that hasn't experienced this problem. Guess I've got to call them and most likely listen to some CSR tell me that he's not aware of anyone else having these issues. Man, I hate buying expensive junk!
  20. The water was very low when I was there in the end of April. How's the level now, compared to then? I got out at Stoney Creek then but it was shallow. Has the level come up any? Headed out to the lake tomorrow and just wondering if I can still get out there. Thanks.
  21. Was it the transducer again or the unit itself? I just bought the 788C not too long ago. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that it keeps on working. So far, it's been great. Headed out to the big pond for 10 days starting on Thursday. Hoping it will keep on working. You know, $650 ought to get a guy more than half a season out of a unit. Seems like quality control at some of these companies isn't much. It's not the cost that's the problem, it's being without the unit that's the problem. If someone would come out with a reliable unit at that price range, they would have the market to themselves.
  22. Remember that the sub troll and the depth raider both read about .5MPH lower than GPS speed, so you were probably really doing about 3 mph at the ball. You can check this by putting your probe down about 5 feet and check your speed against your GPS. At that speed, you are going to get quite a bit of blow back with your probe. I run a 13 pound slim darter (like the Attomik torpedo) with my probe. I don't usually go much more that 2.0 on my depth raider when I'm fishing really deep like that.
  23. Seen that happen many times. I guess it's just getting their attention.
  24. I think you are asking if you can connect the blacks below the klincher. Yes, you can do that. You will have a little more uninsulated wire that way but it shouldn't affect your signal very much. I have done that with the walker's adjustable "in-line" release and didn't notice much difference in how deep I could go before I lost the signal. You can also slip some heat shrink tubing over the exposed wire on the clip. Just make sure you leave the bottom of the clip exposed for electrical contact to the probe. I've heard guys talk about using liquid electric tape too for covering up exposed wire.
