If you want even less work look at a propane stove, just turn on the switch and no ashes to clean. With propane down to $1.69/gal it's not too expensive either.

If you are willing to drive to Sodus you can try Arney's Marina http://www.arneysmarina.com/boat-rentals/ If the lake is too rough you can always fish the bay

A 9' rod will give you enough tip separation between your diver rods and keep your inside diver line away from your rigger cable especially when you're turning or fighting currents. You may want to elevate your 10'6" rod a little higher than the inside rod so that the tips don't contact each other on a hard hit.

Echip Protroll vs Spinny: WTF
mudflat replied to jigstick's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Usually have both in the water till the fish tell me they have a preference. Each has their own unique action at any given speed. -

I have no idea how much work this would involve to put it altogether but TJ has a "new" 2002 Intruder hull for sale on his website, $200 http://www.pennyanboats.com/fiberglass.htm Probably the last hull they made and never finished Depending on any other issues with your hull it might be worth looking into, TJ would probably know what it takes to do it

No problems with interference even when I'm running all three transducers together : structure scan, 83/200hz sonar, Fish Hawk Also have an Airmar 50/200hz B60 thru hull mounted about 3' ahead of these and only get a little interference on the graphs if I try to run both sonars together at 200hz, still doesn't bother the Fish Hawk

SBHW Salmon Slam - August 1st, 2015
mudflat replied to TOP SECRET's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
Another great Salmon Slam spending time with some old friends and making new ones. Met up with Tom, the vet who was on my boat last year, on Friday at Arney's and he must be a glutton for punishment because he wanted to get back on my boat again this year. My boat was having some mechanical issues so I teamed up with Sammy Gee on his boat and we made plans for Saturday. With a Small Craft Advisory posted for after 10 am with a strong west wind and 2-3 footers we planned to head west out of the chute and troll into the wind for awhile so we could surf back when the waves built during the day. Sammy thought that was the best plan even though he thought the fish were East of the chute. Everything went well and it wasn't long before we were hooked up with our 1st king on a Green Dolphin down 85' over 175 fow. Tom was on the rod and it didn't take long for him to get the hang of it. The pressure was off, we had one in the box We bloodied the deck on Sammy's new to him ride And we bloodied Sammy's leg just for fun It's a good thing we had our medic on board just in case Next up turned out to be a Steely on a wire dipsy out 300' with a blue mirage fly which Tom handled like a pro. This fish won the steelhead division by .03 lbs. We ended up boxing 2 more kings, both off the riggers down 90-110, one on a glow gator and the other on a carmel dolphin. Now the waves had built up to 3-4 with some 5 footers mixed in for fun and we decided to pull lines and motor in. Even though we had headed West the wind had pushed us East and we now found ourselves East of Port Bay, Sammy was right, he had found the fish. But now we had a long ride back to Sodus into the wind, good thing we had Tom along to take us in Lunch was waiting for us when we got in and I had time to catch up with some guys I'd met in prior years. Every vet I talked with told me how much days like this mean to them and that they look forward to this every year. Thanks Nick and Theresa for putting this all together now for four years. Thanks to all the sponsors who help make it possible with their donations. Thanks to Arney's for taking such good care of us while we are there Thanks to all the volunteers who give their time to make it happen Thanks to all the veterans for their service Can't wait to do it again next year -

Should be able to get that P66 dialed in once you figure out what's causing the interference Does the interference change with motor rpm's (electrical) or does it seem to be just correlated with your speed (transducer placement). Try "revving up" your motor a little in neutral and see if it affects your screen. Does it get worse while you're using any other electrical device (riggers, radio, ect). If you do decide to go with a thru hull look at an Airmar B60, it has a wider cone angle than the B164 and might be better suited to our kind of trolling.

The chain is to help your anchor flukes to dig into the bottom and hold better You want to be pulling sideways on the anchor and not upwards

Otter Board Question
mudflat replied to master baiter's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You need to adjust the front and rear tow string lengths a little shorter than BJ says You can also modify them by adding a second keel with 1/2 the weight if you want to pull long coppers Check out this previous post http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/topic/37206-otter-boat/?hl=%2Botter+%2Bboard+%2Bstring -
Downriggers and wire divers with a 4 rod setup is a great start, especially if you are limited with what you can spend. Get your father out and let him play with a 20# King and spend some quality time together with his son and he might be willing to invest more. If you can get on a charter it will shorten the learning curve and give immediate rewards. A couple of suggestions: Go with 30lb Big Game mono instead of the 50# power pro for the riggers. Fleas will be a problem with the power pro and the mono will be easier to work with. You can run free sliders off the mono and add a 20# leader if you're running spoons. Look at Trax Tech, Bert's or Cisco tracks to set up the boat with rod holders. Go with the longest sections that will fit on the boat. This will let you add, change, or remove rod holders very easily in the future without drilling more holes in the boat and they look good. You can add electronics like sonar and a Fish Hawk when you can but I would get a vhf radio right away for safety and info while on the water. Remember it's all about the fun, keep it simple at first and learn as you go.

Arney's has a few campsites right next to their parking area You can check with them if any are available

Here's the link to a chart comparing several brands of wire that was posted on GLA back in 2012. http://www.glanglerforum.com/forum/showthread.php?12613-wire-line-question/page2&highlight=wire+test I've used AFW wire both 30# and 20# test and never had any break offs from a fish. Doesn't matter what brand you use when it gets into one of your other lines, especially copper.

Big Jon planer reels cracking at the handle
mudflat replied to CaptSpike's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I've had one break, now I try to be "gentle" with them and stop the boat to bring in my boards. Cisco makes a replacement reel that's all steel. I plan on trying them if another plastic BJ cracks on me. Their not cheap either but at least you shouldn't have to replace one because it cracked. -
