    Correct, generally the narrower/flatter end goes towards the front. If the paddle has fins on it they always go towards the back. If your not sure if you have it right just check the action by running it next to the boat before you put it out, same way you would check the action on a spoon or cut bait after you tuned them.

    The Wander Fin has two rudder like plates that hang down in back of the prop so that the thrust from the prop is directed against them like a rudder. This is what improves the handling at low speeds. Fixing, or covering up, the cavitation plate was just an added bonus to installing the fin which mounts to the outdrive by bolting to the cavitation plate. In my case I either had to repair the cavitation plate by welding in a piece or cover it with the fin so it helped me to justify the cost of the fin in my mind ( and to the wife ). Look it up on the website and I think it will make more sense to the engineer in you.

    Some deep vee boats just seem to wander a little to port and starboard at slow speeds, nothing wrong with the steering or outdrive and not caused by wind or waves. I always said it was because the boats are female and can't make up their minds which way they want to go . You constantly are trying to correct this by counter steering which sometimes just makes it worse, can be aggravating particularly in tight channels and makes it difficult to relax when driving. My Penn Yan wasn't too bad and I installed a Wander Fin mainly because a corner of my cavitation plate was broken off on my outdrive and the fin covers that up which helped me to justify the cost. However the fin definitely improved the handling characteristics at slow speeds. This problem disappears once you throttle up a little or put in your trolling bags. Some boats wander more than others

    If adjusting the anode fin and/or weight distribution doesn't solve your problem you could try this: http://www.wanderfin.com/main.sc I installed one on my 25' Penn Yan and it definitely helps the low speed handling and really improved the manuverability around the docks.

    Here's Ray holding on for dear life with one hand and his fish in the other It was a little bumpy out there but Ray did fine and survived the whole day, more than I can say for the rest of my crew who tried chumming for fish! Overall it was a great day giving a little back to some guys and girls that served their country well, looking forward to next year, only hoping for calmer seas. Thanks Theresa and Nick for putting this all together and thanks to everyone who supported the event.

    Nick The weather forecast for Saturday looks even better today than yesterday so don't try any of your Voo Doo. We all know what you did for the ProAm . I'll be up to Arnie's tomorrow so if there's any vets coming in early that want to go out on the lake Friday let me know. Roy

    Joanie reacted the same way the other day, she was not happy about that "thing" being in the boat. I notice that even the "big" man was using pliers to hold it instead of his hands. Does this mean we're getting lamprey pie again?

    Adk, make sure you have room in the boat for whatever cooler you get, a 150qt is big. Check out Sam's/Walmart for a 120qt for $50-60, probably big enough unless you find the mother load and it will do double duty as a seat if needed.

    +1 Nick, Don't use up all your VooDoo, save some for the Salmon Slam! Adk1, Lake Ontario is a lot different than Sacandaga or any of the inland lakes and just because you think you can go out and get back in doesn't mean you should go or that you will enjoy it. It's hard to sit on the shore on blow off days when your time on the lake is already limited and you want to fish but hopefully wisdom comes with experience no matter how big your boat is. The fish will still be there tomorrow.

    Skipper How about sharing this method? Might be we can all learn something, it's always seemed funny to me that I use a bigger knife to filet a salmon than I do to butcher a cow. Thanks Roy

    Was in the pack yesterday in front of the plant 200-250 fow. Green e-chip seemed hotter than the sd with green flies down 80-100'. SSW on 300 copper worked also. Fleas are out and heavy on the wires, even some on the 30# big game.

    Chris I've never had a problem bringing copper over my dipsy's as long as I leave it out down the chute long enough that it stabilizes but I'm too wimpy to try it with a 300 cu and a torpedo. Let's let Nick do it first, he'll try anything! It sounds like he has plenty of practice untangling lines:)

    It will be interesting to see what happens when you are using torpedo divers and try to deploy the rig over top of your dipsies with a otter boat. I've been hoping somebody would try this for me. Might work better with a TX44 so you could let it drop back behind the boat before engaging the reel?

    "Very nice mudflat. I just bought the same model about a month ago and just finished getting it outfitted. 5.7l EFI with duoprop and only 287 hours. The boat was stored for 6 years before being put back into commission last year. Ira Jones surveyed it both on land and a sea trial and he went over it with a fine tooth comb for me. Lol. He's worth every penny! I don't see any listing for one on boat trader. This model is hard to find. Where are you docked?" Right now I keep her on the trailer and launch anywhere from Catfish to Sodus. Boat and trailer weigh in at 7800lbs loaded and beam is 8'6" so I'm right at the limit for trailering without permits Probably would be cheaper to slip it somewhere than all the fuel I use towing.     That time of year usually 5-6 miles, 150 fow, depending on the winds Approximate distances from Port Ontario/Selkirk: 100 fow = 4 miles 200 fow = 9 miles 300 fow = 10 miles Power plant = 10 miles I think you can find camping with a dock in the area, check Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground in Mexico.
