  1. With any map supplyers the rivers are quite often not chart or poorly chart but for the St-Lawrence it is very accurate.Using a Gen-3 you can improve the maps by linking you're Gen-3 to a smartphone using the Navionics App ($15 for the app) and once you update you're app and you're Navionics+ everything will be updated and more accurate. Take a look at the last link in my post; https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=fr#boating@9&key=mwhmGr_loM
  2. Navionics+ But some model are coming in bundle; bundle mean that you can get a Navionics+ much cheaper when you are buying a bundle. Any idea on what brand & model Santa will bring to you? http://www.navionics.com/en/navionics-plus-2 Don't know exactly the area you are fishing but you can get a idea of what you are getting by looking at the webapp: https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=fr#boating@9&key=mwhmGr_loM
  3. The problem that you mentionne was real but is been corected with the latest software update found here: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Software-Updates/hook-software-20/ Plus you will benefit of the CHIRP technology. There is a built-in map but if you want something better you can get the model: 000-12666-01 With that one you are getting a Navionics+ card. You may pay $50 more but you are getting a $150 card value. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder-Chartplotter/hook-7-en-us.aspx
  4. Here is what is coming out for Lowrance Live Mapping with SonarChart Live- What I know so far, subject to change… ➢ See below for effected units. ➢ Lowrance NOS 56 software update. ➢ Lowrance Units covered are- • HDS Gen 3 12, 9, 7 Version 4.5 • HDS Gen 2 Touch 12, 9, 7 • HDS Gen 2 12, 9, 7 • Elite Ti version 2.5 • Lowrance Carbon ➢ SonarChart Live data recorded in Lowrance and displayed live on screen. ➢ SonarChart data is not recorded to the hard drive of the sonar, it is recorded to the Navionics card and Navionics card is required. (See below for required cards). ➢ Create High Definition 1’ contours. ➢ Requires a Navionics mapping card with an active chart update subscription (Freshest Data). ➢ Navionics Cards needed- • Hotmaps Platinum • Platinum + • Navionics + • Navionics + Regions • Navionics Updates ➢ Data recorded in Lowrance and stored on card is not shared to Navionics. ➢ Genesis / Lowrance nor Navionics gets NO LOGS or Data from Lowrance Plotter/Sonar. Data not shared. ➢ Adjust SonarChart contour density. ➢ Update Navionics Mapping card in Lowrance Plotter via WI fi connection between Mobile device and Plotter. ➢ Download updated charts and transfer routes and markers/waypoints via the innovative Plotter Sync capability of Navionics Boating apps without having to remove the Navionics card. ➢ If you choose to do SonarChart Live and want to update your Navionics SonarChart data on card or mobile device app you have to connect affected Lowrance Units via Wi fi to Navionics Mobile app and do SonarChart Live in the mobile device, which is then uploaded to Navionics and processed into the community SonarChart layer. You then do a Freshest Data update to card or mobile device. ➢ Added functions- • You can do plotter sync. • Shallow Water Highlight. • Depth Highlight. • Easy View. • Transparency. • Navionics Dock-to-dock Autorouting creates intelligent, detailed routes, even through narrow passages and channels.
  5. Image on a good quality 7" will always look crisper on a 7" vs a good quality 12" and also if you are running a gen-2 12" the screen is not has crisp then a Gen-3 that is like the Elite Ti If we compare apple to apple the Garmin and the Elite share a 7" 800X480 so they should be quite similar Garmin antenna is a 5Hz vs 10 With the Garmin you got to live with the Garmin only choice map and w/o all the capabilities of the NK 2000 on the Elite and again Garmin is w/o the touch screen
  6. Now in 9" & 12" Take a look:
  7. For the guys that are using the HOOK series you can find the latest software update here: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Software-Updates/hook-software-20/ It's a must!
  8. I really like using my Lowrance to jig lakers in 125-140ft of water. The 360 didn't really took a lot of market mainly because the prostaff were not impress with it same for the Lowrance Spotlight. With the Patnoptix we are touching another level of $$. It's important to compare $ vs $
  9. The touchscreen is a major plus for me and the Smart Steer to control my Xi5 is also a big big plus. I also use the Navionics Platinum something that the Helix processor can't handle.
  10. I'm a Lowrance user but I fish with friends that are running Ray and HB unit; I should say was running HB because now he is running Lowrance Elite Ti. One thing that I would never go back is the button only control; it's like going back to a flip flap phone. It's much faster and easier to use with the touch screen. I didn't ask you what kind of fishing you are doing but for my part I really like my Motor Guide Xi5 link to my Lowrance; I can program my trolling line and use the kicker to push and the Xi5 to maintain my course. The antenna on the Lowrance is much faster 10 Hz compare to 5. On the Helix7 Si you got 83/200 and 455 and for the Elite: 83/200 455/800 and CHIRP and max panel is 2 and 2 also for the Dragonfly. On the dragonfly you have 50/200 and 320/380 for the downscan. As for making you're map at this moment you can use Insight Genesis and in the very near future you will also be able to create you're own map visible on you're Elite Ti screen using Navionics. For the Dragonfly you are stuck with the Garmin map.
  11. The Elite Ti-7 comes with the wifi so you can download map, update, you can also view the screen and control the unit; also view you're screen on a smartphone not to forgot the touchscreen. It offer 2D, CHIRP, downscan, sidescan with the Totalscan transducer, NMEA 2000 capability. Processor is the same use on the Gen-3 that allowed to use the Navionics Platinum Dragonfly offer: downscan, CHIRP,wireless no touchscreen Garmin Echomap: no touchscreen, side imaging on the sv unit, downscan on sv and dv unit, CHIRP, no wireless and no NMEA, no choice on the mapping side
  12. The only bad comment on this unit was the slowleness of the gps but with the latest update from Lowrance the problem has been resolve. I'm surprise that it is not being sold at that price.
  13. 1.15 min from Montreal
  14. 2016 Princecraft 186 Platinum SE
  15. Comes with the Insight so it's a GPS and it comes with the: 455/800/83/200 transducer. That unit is a CHIRP also. Good deal!
  16. For somebody that is looking for a large screen with downscan, 2D and CHIRP that is an excelent opportunity If you choose the model: 000-12667-001 you are also getting a Navionics+ for around $50. That is a good deal. http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder-Chartplotter/hook-9-en-us.aspx
  17. One of the major complaint about those units was the slowliness of the gps. Lowrance has just pull out an update to fix this. Bulletin: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/navicodigitalassets/AMER/Lowrance/TB-86819_Lowrance_Elite_HOOK_TROPHY_SW_Upgrade.pdf?_cldee=YW5kcmVfbW9yaW5Ac3ltcGF0aWNvLmNh&recipientid=contact-19802397cfbce4119ebd6c3be5a81b7c-4c9d68ef1e1a41498d5e453e8d0ece34 Elite: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Software-Updates/Elite-60/ Hook: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Software-Updates/hook-software-20/
  18. When you say preloaded they are not. The maps are coming on a SD card with a mini (MSD) card so it can be use in differrent model of chartplotter. The newer chartplotter comes with a Navionics+. To get an idea on what you are getting the best way is to look at the webapp page on Navionics.com Click on the link: https://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en#boating@9&key=odfzFr%7B~aM
  19. You can mount both ducers a few in's apart but the Structure scan needs to be lower; when you do a install like this you can use the overlay downscan feature. You can also put the Structure scan ducer on the opposite side but still need to be lower. You will have to trim-up you're main engine to free-up the view on the side-scan
  20. The Fish Hawk work on 70khz I run a Airmar. TM150 ducer with my Gen3 and don't get any interference when I chirp. The TM150 frrun run between 95 and 150
  21. But that's the reality! On my previous boat running a Yamaha T8 I had to have 2/27 size batteries to keep everything functionning: 3 Lowrance units, vhf, 2 downriggers. For those that are running Verado with the electric power steering it is strongly recommended to run a pro-kicker 15hp. Maybe it's possible to use the 15hp rectifier on a 9.9?
  22. Tthe Merc 15hp pull-llout 15amp It is recommended for those that troll and have the Verado electric power steering Most if not all the kickers in the 8 and 9.9 developp 6 amps at full trottle and about 1amp when trolling
