I have a 1964 Evinrude Lark VI 40 hp that I bought for the first boat I ever owned. I've owned this motor since around 1990. It's a good running motor. I had it started a couple of weeks ago. Never had a trouble with it in the past. May just be a breaker. Have not had time to investigate yet. Just wanted to mention that up front. The motor is in good condition. Has anyone around Rochester seen any smelt runs this year?

I looked at the cable we removed and sure enough right on the end it said 18FT. Thank for the help guys! Really appreciate it.

Hello everyone, I know there will be someone on this board that can answer these couple questions for me. First let me give you a little background on the task at hand. Bought a Simrad AP14r autopilot this winter and started the install process this weekend in a 1986 Starcraft Offshore 22 ft. Everything is going smoothly so far. The unit fits nicely under the console. The old steering cable came out fine. Except for all the wires that were tywrapped to it. The two questions are as follows. 1) How do I determine the correct length for the new cable I have to purchase? The old steering was a Teleflex rack and pinion system. The install manual gives the cable part number but doesn't direct you how to make sure the new cable will be the right length to go back in. 2) It says in the instructions to mount the Fluxgate Compass at the centerline of the boat. The boat is 99% used for trolling for trout and salmon. It seems to me that it would give better feedback to the controller if the compass was mounted towards the bow. Looking for suggestions on where to mount the compass. The unit does have gain control for the corrections. Plus in our boat, mounting the compass where they suggest would be a pain. (SpoonFed) : Fishing Report ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== The Sodus Pro-Am for the second year was a big disappointment for our boat. It's not the tournament that's the issue. The tournament is very well run and we have a great time fishing in it and look forward to it every year. It's our luck that needs to change for this tournament. This year the waves on Saturday Morning were a little more than our crew wanted to manage. We came in early Sat morning due to 6 fters with one fish (8lbs). Apparently we were bigger cowards than the rest of the fleet. We were the only ones to come in early!!???? The decision to motor in early, in hindsight, was a good move. Sunday we fished till the motor decided to s*@# the bed. Fuel pump! Had to limp in at 1100 rpm with 3 fish (24, 20 and 8lbs). That’s as all fuel pump could keep up with. Even though we haven’t produced yet in the PRO-AM, we’ll be back next year to give it another whack. Now the LOC on the other hand was fantastic. We took Friday off to pre-fish for the Pro-Am. The word was that the fish were being caught in 150 ft. So we headed north out of the channel in Sodus to 150 ft. We fished for a while and caught a couple fish. We decided to try out deeper and pointed the boat north. Zig zagging our way out we hooked into a fish in 320 ft of water. It hit a rig we had just put in the water and dropped it down to 92 ft, deeper than we had fished all day. The fish hit the lure and just started screaming out line. 300 feet, 400 feet, 500 feet. We had just re-spooled the reels the weekend before so we knew how much line was on there (750ft). The fish took no time to hit 600 feet on the line counter. I started to get a little nervous at this point, due to the fact that the fish wasn’t slowing down. I yelled up to Pat to start turning the boat, this fish was intent on spooling the reel. Pat yelled back to ask how much line I had left a second time and the counter was at 675 ft now. He said, “I though you just said a moment ago that you were at 600 feet?†I said, “ A moment ago I was!†At this point I had to put my thumb on the reel to slow him down. Ouch does that burn. Once I finally got him stopped it took another 30 minutes to get him in the boat. As it hit the deck we all looked at each other and said, "Damn that’s a big fish." Weighed it on the boat an it was almost 30 lbs. Then there was a Chinese firedrill to get everything picked up and out of the water to get this fish in to the weigh in station. It seemed to take forever to get to the dock. Got it on the scales and it weighed in at 29lbs 7 oz. 2 ounces larger than the leader. Then the shock set in that we were actually leading the LOC. WOW! We now only had two days to sweat it out. It ended up holding up even with all the pro’s fishing the same waters that this fish came from. It hit a black Challenger flasher with a glow ladderback trailing a green crinkle fly. I'd like to say thanks to Chris from Jolly II for joining our team again this year. Great Job! We fish the cowballs right at the ball. No more than 10 ft or so. They for sure aren't the best fighting fish in the lake, but we all know there are some big ones down there. The 12 lber came from 160 ft down.

Forgot the rule that you were allowed one slot lake and ended up throwing back a 12.5 lb'er, 28 inches long. Oh well. Hopefully the Kings come back soon! I think I know the answer to this question, but I'll ask it anyways. Would that be a boat ride to the west or a truck and trailer ride?

Didn't leave the dock until 7:00. Left Ibay and headed north to 100 ft. There were a couple boats trolling in that depth. Did a fast reconicence troll for about 5 min and did not see any signs of bait or fish. Continued out to 150 and there were a few more boats in that depth. Set up here and trolled for 3 hours with only one fish. a ~14 lb king. Screen was blank from bait and only saw a couple fish. We decided to go out and look for Steelies. Picked up and ran out to 500 ft. Found a nice scum line and went 4 for 5 trolling in and out of that. 3 steelies and 1 shaker king. Anybody seeing any bait? We never saw a pod all day!

Sorry, a little dated now. Left port on Friday morning with Scott and Gary from Nancy B II and Rick from Bad Habit on board. Headed West out of Ibay and trolled all the way to Braddocks Bay. Went 2 for 4 trolling the shoreline. Both small browns. 9 miles of trolling with just 4 fish, ouch that hurts! As you can see by the excitment in Scott's snores. We were planning on ending the day at 3:00, so at 12:30 the team decided to leave our shorline hotspot and troll out to a group of boats we could see on the horizon and see if there was anything out deep. Got out to the pack at about 2:30. Caught a nice Steelhead ( ~7 lbs) and a nice teenager king before we had to quit. Put a good end to the trip. Started Saturday with Chris from Jolli II on board and headed straight for the GPS marks from Friday Afternoon. Ended up going 5 for 5, all kings. Had a 10, 13, 2 - 18's, and a 20.5. Missed the board by about a pound. The fish came on spoons (tuxedo, dirty white boy, and a custom painted spoon) and flasher fly. Had a white pro chip with a white fly on the dipsey that took 3 of the kings. All the fish came from 30 - 40 of water over 100 -110. Dipsey set at 2.5 out 120. Didn't mark any bait but did mark fish. Had a great time fishing both days even with the hurricane that hit Sat afternoon as we were heading back to port. Can't wait to get back out there. Glad to see the kings are back.

Took the boat out for the first trip on Sunday. Started fishing at 6:30. Went out the channel at Ibay and headed east. Not a bad day for an east blow. Fish came between Shipbuilders and Webster park. Ended up 5 for 6. Fish took both plugs and spoons. Red J-9 Rapala took the most fish. Nothing big to talk about. All the same 2 -3 lb cookie cutter fish. It was great to finally get the winter dust off the boat. Wind picked up towards the end. Motored in with 4 -5 foot rollers. That is always a fun ride.

Pretty much the same report as everyone else. Went 5 for 6, all kings. Green/Silver, Yellow and white flashers. Green and Mirage flies. Between 200 and 300 ft of water east of Ibay. 90 - 100 ft on the riggers and 285 -300 on the Dipsey's (2.5 setting with wire). Anyone have any luck with the new style cut bait? Bought some from B-E tackle. That stuff was pretty nasty. Didn't really fit in the bait head either. I realize it's because of the new bait laws, but are there other options for cut bait available?
