Muriatic acid works great.... wear goggles- not glasses, goggles. You only get one set of eyes

just call NK...... I bought a boatload of stuff at the warehouse last week. No one is really stocking the stuff right now since the season is basically over, so they are more than willing to sell at basically retail out the back door. They have plenty of ladderback tapes and I picked up a few squares of stuff myself. edit.... and the four hottest lures they recommended did plenty of damage last week. They have a NBK on a gold spoon that was a killer! A few nice glow frogs w/ hologram tape and another superglow ladderback they recommended.

Steve's is very reasonable. I took my boat in for a estimate on a one piece cover. It was very reasonable, but I didn't get one just yet.... I found some indoor storage for the winter.

I had a great season considering I just got my boat about a month or so ago... and had a steep learning curve to get into this sport Just a few Q's on stackers.... Generally how high up from the ball do you run them... 10', 20', 30'? Which lead (ball or stacker) should be longer to avoid tangles (how much longer)? I'm also still trying to figure out the best method for running sliders when I head out by myself.... rubber band, free slider, etc.... I'm hoping to hit the water one more time before i lay it up for the winter. Any tips for next year would be great.

ibay friday afternoon
cdelong replied to bbolger's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I'll give that a shot. I'm done trying to launch at Mayer's..... it's too shallow and the ramp drops off too much at the end- plus the channel stinks. I tried Bear Creek Today.... it's cake- and it's only $15 a year to launch. Too bad I was skunked. Plenty on the screen over at my usual stomping grounds.... just not playing. This boat is great on gas! -

Yes, I'm curious myself how far out I need to head for 450 FOW. I don't like heading out too far on my 18 footer. I've been having decent luck inside the 200 FOW mark which seems to be 3- 4 miles out from the river. -
I'm not sure what this might be- Steelhead or Coho..... boated three of them today and missed another when I had two simultaneous releases. They were all between 14- 15#. Sorry for the crappy pic- all I had was my cell.

reports for out deep
cdelong replied to reel drag's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
only 200 FOW.... 3 steelies boated, 1 misssed- all right around 15#. All were hit around with the ball at 110- 130 FOW w/ stackers 20' up.... about 5 miles north of the Genny. Action was dead by 11am. I was out at 7am. Everything hit the boat between 8- 10am. -
Over?? This weekend should be good. As long as I can still launch, I'm heading out. You guy's with larger boats that have pulled them for the season are more than welcome to take a run with me any day starting Thursday am. My 18 footer can only take myself and 3 others to fish comfortably.

Screen was loaded most all morning and only one hit on a yellow NBK at 140 FOW, 110 down and 90 back. Took us out to 380ft. Got it to 70 ft. and it kicked loose. The screen was never empty and we had about three loaded screens in 165 FOW at 110ft. We were right there, but nothing was playing. Fish seemed fussy today? Anyone have any luck north of the Genny? They all seemed to be stacked up at 110ft. and I lost the only strike we had.

Hope you do well today. I'm heading out a few miles with some buds tomorrow and give it a go. Hopefully we can get some decent players on the hook. -

I'm just getting started my self and have found the Shakespeare linecounters to be very good for the money. I picked up a few TW20LCL's combos with Bigwater rods for $80 (combo deal) and a TW30LCL for $65 with an Eagle Downrigger rod. Anyone else have any opinions on the Shakespeare linecounters? -

Latched this one this morning at about 9:30 just about 1/4 mile east of the river in about 30 FOW rigged about 8 ft. deep running a GG ladderback 90-100ft behind the ball. Not bad for my second time out on my Sea Ray!! Took about 20 minutes to wear it down after she pulled out 150 ft. on me. I'm a newb, but pretty sure this is a female King?? Felt to be about 20# and around 3ft. long. Any confirmation from anyone? -

I launched out of Mayers today on the Bay. Stay to the left heading out of the channel to the lake. My depth finder read anywhere from 11' to 4' at some points in the channel. -
I know I saw a post on here with a few decal sites, but I cannot find it now. Does anyone have some recommendations for a good vinyl shop? I got my boat all cleaned up and rubbed out and need to dress her up again. Thanks.

Salmon Trolling in the fall
cdelong replied to chugbug's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
do you have to run a leader off release on the ball or can you just run your regular line off the release on the ball? I'm running 20# Trilene on both my reels and I have 12# finned balls. I got myself a few trolling combos with Shakespeare T20LCL reels and Bigwater 8' 3" medium rods. They seemed to be a good value between price/performance when I was looking around. sorry for the newbness... I'll be heading out next weekend for the first time around the river. -
Thanks for the heads up Bob.... I bought it today

Not anxious.... just looking for input. That looks like a nice boat- maybe I'll check that one out as well.

I can't go too big...... I'm just going to be using my minivan for towing. I think 18' (~3500#) is about the max I can go with my vehicle- 1998 Venture. I plan on fishing as much as possible and I'm relocating to FL next spring. I've heard it's best to buy one up north away from the saltwater and bring it down south. I've looked at a few older boats (late 80's early 90's) in the $3- $5K range and I'm kinda disappointed in what I'm seeing. The BlueBook on the boat is $9400 in average condition. This one is in excellent condition.

I'm in the market for my first boat. I don't just want a fishing boat, but cruising and pleasure also. I've come across a 2003 16' Starcraft 1600 that looks like it just rolled off the production line. It has a 60HP Mercury that is oil injected. The boat has about 40 hours on it. The hull, floor, and interior are immaculate as is the trailer. Does not seem to have a lot of options- just the basics.... nice gauge package, ladder, hydraulic trim/lift. The boat does not have a livewell or any depth/fish finders. I have gotten the seller to $8500. Does that seem to be a good deal? Thanks
