I have a 17'6" SC superfisherman and like sk8man said I mocked it up before drilling and screwing anything down permanently. I did use tracks on the back 2 corners so I could move rod holders around and one of the downriggers is on the track, the other DR is forward of the gas fill, otherwise I would have put the longer track on both sides (36" on one side and 24" on the other). Then I put scotty rod holder bases in a few different spots so you can move them around as needed. Watch for seats when setting rod holders (ie I have one seat that hits the butt of the rod in the holder and everytime I hit it we think there is a fish on). I'll try to take pics this weekend. This thread did get thinking about triple and quad trees also.

One thing when I was looking at boats a few guys had I/Os for sale. The only issue I had with the I/O is if you fish earlier or later in the year, you either have to winterize the boat or have it in a heated garage so the water in the block does not freeze. With an outboard you just lower the motor to full down position and most of the water is out or just crank for a second or two to get the water out so it does not freeze. I like to fish perch later in the year and browns early and with an I/O you would have to worry about freezing water in the block.

If u could only have one

Not that I want more competition for grabbing good used gear, but keep an eye on the for sale section as many times you can get really good equipment lightly used. But be ready to jump on things as the good stuff goes fast at times. Another great resource for me was to go to the LOTSA show in February (I think, should be posted on here when it gets closer) or other tackle flea markets as many times the guys selling at those are great to pick their brains on what to buy and how to run them if you don't know. -
Did you catch a waypoint on it by chance? Like others said could have been a boat or net. If you had a coordinates there was the guy on here looking for shipwrecks might be something to send him or other people in the area could look. I saw a boat one time on Erie that the bow was barely visible as just the bow was sticking up. Just some thoughts.

Mine were long shaft, on one of the boats I had to put a kicker bracket on as there was not enough room for the motor to sit on the transom. Have to measure your transom to see if you would need a long or short shaft. On my current boat 17.6 superfisherman a long shaft is perfect length for hanging off the transom. You want the ventilation plate to be in line with the bottom of the boat where it's mounted.

I had a 9.9 on a 16 ft I had and it pushed the boat nicely, also had a 4 hp on a boat which was a little small. I would think a 6 hp would be perfect, but one thought might be to get a 8 or 9.9 hp and take it to the next boat. I bought a nice Yamaha 8hp high thrust and will be moving it to the next boat I buy (whenever that is), but I took it off my previous boat and have it on the current boat.

Wanted downrigger weights
dukhnter8 replied to oldkevin's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Where are you located? I'm in Attica and have some 8 lbs and a 5 Ib (I think) that I am looking to sell. -
What year is it? I had a 90?'s (Can't remember the exact year) that would stall but then restart right away. I couldn't figure out what was wrong had spark, fuel, etc took it to the mechanic and they found the breather valve was plugged giving it a lack of fuel type issue. So might also check breathers and pcv valves (or whatever they are called on outboards)

Went out again on Sunday, started out fast then slowed down. Not as many big fish started getting smaller fish, caught a bunch of gobies one spot, killed all that we caught and fed the birds. Very light bite a few times you would just pull up on the rod and there would be a fish. Not as many boats out less than 20 through out the day. Ended with 28 but threw back a few big females full of eggs and some of the smaller fish. My buddy and I were both happy with the fish caught and I was happy with the number while filleting them.

Scotty downrigger lids not staying closed
dukhnter8 replied to dukhnter8's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Update, called scotty and first question was are the emergency crank handles installed? Nope they were just sitting in one of the storage areas. Took a minute to figure out how they are supposed to be as I couldn't find any pics but now the lids stay closed and are tight so no blowing up when trailering. I knew the latches should be hooking on something but was not sure what it was until now. Thanks all for the help and amusing banter. -

Scotty downrigger lids not staying closed

There were covers included with the boat for the riggers so I might have to use them. Just wondered if the lids were supposed to stay down and lock into place. -
The boat I bought last fall has 2 scotty electric downriggers. I have used them for a little this spring and one issue I am having with them is if I leave them on the boat the lid flaps as I drive down the road. I don't want to loose the lid but also it's a pain to take them off and put them back on. I have a pole barn I store the boat in so am not too worried about thieves. I see there is a lock on the lid but it doesn't seem to lock onto anything. Is this just an issue with Scotty's or could something be broke. I looked up the riggers on Fish307 for parts and everything seems to look ok. I might try to take pics but both riggers look the same and nothing seems broken or out of place. Any ideas? Thanks

Guys on other sites have raved about them, I looked into them and they seem really good. I need to replace my bunks soon but for the price and the amount I would need they seemed out of my range.

I just took the About Boating Safety course and there was no requirement for rope to be attached. They suggested to have a rope attached but not required.

Last fall I bought a 2001 176 superfisherman with 90 hp merc, 2011 9.9 merc 4 stroke, electric downriggers, and depth raider probe for $6500 but this was the end of the fall so that was buyers market. Which we are getting into sellers market now. Also looked at a few fishmasters and superfishermans in the 19 ft with 90 hp on them for 6-7000. I think the guy is a little high on the price but not too crazy.
