  1. Big boards I use Weldon's
  2. No point in spending all the money and time rigging up for salmon and then losing your gear because of your 15 lb leaders. 20 lb leaders on the copper or leadcore, 30 lb on dipsys if running flashers/flies.
  3. Does Seneca have a bait problem? Alewives and Walleye don't really mix well together. Kings or cohos might be another story. I doubt the DEC will want to stock another non-native species into the system.
  4. I have a bunch of them. Always was impressed with the quality of finish, quality of split rings and quality of hooks. Great spoon for steelhead when you want to cover some ground and get that speed over 2.5 mph. I have heard some of the early reproductions the new company put out had some issues with the paint jobs holding up? That was over a year ago so they probably have the kinks ironed out.
  5. The only thing you should be fishing for with a 10 lb leader is Browns or Walleye in shallow clear water. If you venture over laker/king water, change out your leaders to 20 lb.
  6. I grew up hunting a 5 mile by 3 mile block of woods but have always dreamed of the Adirondack experience. The idea of tracking mature bucks in the snow and not have worry if the track wanders onto a neighbor’s property pumps my nads.
  7. I might be up for throwing my hat back in the ring in the future. For now I have enjoyed doing benefit events like Healing Waters in Sodus and Reelin’ for a Cure. Great fun and atmosphere.

    Late spawn

The vast majority of late spawning Walleyes taken on Lake Erie are males. IMO taking males out now verses one month from now make no difference. The females don’t show up in catches for awhile. Now taking February prespawn giants in Detroit River is a different discussion ....that has never set well with me.
  9. Second tuf-line. Spectra sheath doesn’t degrade like Dacron and you tie a double wrap improved cinch to leader for easy assembly.
  10. Congrats on your first docking! Those crazy two year olds twisted off a couple of my Dreamweaver mag spoon hooks also. Bad split rings.
  11. The bait is in top 30’. Move your fishfinder range and zoom to top 50’
  12. I actually had to work for my bites today.
  13. Let’s resurrect this thread. Count me in this year.
  14. Kurt, 95% of bites have been off spoons this year so far.
  15. Bobbers and worms (not technically a meat rig).
  16. Not a Northport as they put a twist in the blank. Could be a R&R but not the style hook Dave uses.
  17. My theory is once they hit the bank on the North Shore and get put into the mix of “ideal” upper 40’s temps with bait, they stay in those ideal water bands and begin to move around the lake in a counter clockwise direction with the lake currents.
  18. Baby. “Ouch my wrist hurts cause I caught too many kings” .....LOL.
  19. The three year olds are still playing catch up as they were stocked in 2015 and had very little YOY alewife to feed on. They will be smaller. The deep winter pattern three and four year olds are still out there feeding on the bottom of the lake. The big boys will roll up on the North shore first week in July and then are here to stay.
  20. Sorry about the tire. When you were trolling out you were so close to the mother load. You needed to be in the 360'-400+ range west of port.
  21. The bite since the ice water came in has been offshore. Slide divers, leadcore and riggers with long leads. Fished most of the week. The bite has been absolutely crazy this year. Averaging 6 Kings per hour this week. Very easy to fish below them if you are not paying attention. Hot baits have been the mag Dreamweaver UV two-face spoon, discontinued Moody Blue Dreamweaver super slim with UV tape and a 6” Tomic spoon in purple haze color. Wading thru 40 kings per day looking for a LOC fish is a fun way to spend some PTO. We couldn’t crack the 20 lb barrier. Most fish are 8 lbs to 14 lbs and starting to fatten up more and more each day. We would take a three year old 19 lber each day but nothing bigger. Already planning next years onslaught on what will be a huge class of three year olds with scars on their mouths. I hope they don’t remember my boat. Get out there!
  22. Check ignition coils and spark plug gap.
  23. Great! Dancing with Kings can be life altering. Hooked for life.
  24. Kings making boys into young men all over the lake this year.
