Had high hopes for Saturday but it looks like I will have to play it safe and hit the pier instead. Remember gents the water is cold this time of year.

1.8 mph in spring for browns and lakers. If kings are on the graph I pump it up to 2-2.25 depending on water temp and mood of fish. Then you have to match the speed to the baits you are running. If you run an NK 28 with a treble at 1.8 mph, you will be washing lures for a long time.
So if the pink stuff is good enough for pvc to not crack then I would think it would not crack metal engine parts either. I have been using the pink stuff for 10 years ( knock on wood)
So perhaps the workflow for winterization should be. Warm engine ---- Drain Petcocks-----Apply antifreeze thru muffs. Thanks for posting....very informative.
I hear you Pap. Nothing like seeing brown movement, putting the gun up only to find an idiot in full brown Carhart in your scope. Scary when it happens.
Giant mud puppy! People wonder what a worm harness looks like to predator like a walleye and I usually reply a mudpuppy. On East wind roll-overs on Erie they wash up on shore in droves.
Been watching the jet stream hitting high into Washington State all week (poor Stan). Warm weather on way. Emerald Shiners have showed in the Upper Niagara and reportedly are already entering Lake Erie tribs. Reports of suckers being caught in creeks!! If you have not started on your spring gear yet.....better get crackin'
In March the laker play is not a water temp issue. The lakers are there because they finished their spawn. They make nightly raids into the shoals to feed on gobies but there also smelt, gizzard shad, spot-tail shiners, and emeralds making inward movements as each day goes by. They are there waiting for the smorgasbord.
Depth will dictate presentation. You are not going to run flashers or cowbells in 30'. The gaudy flashy flashy stuff doesn't shine until you get out over at least 50'.
Lakers will be in the 30-70' range in March. It helps to have a good spread of stuff out. Leadcores in 4-8 colors, dipsys with flasher/flies or dodger/flies within 5' of bottom. Riggers with spoons. Speed is key. Keep it below 2 mph. Use thin spoons meant for slow speed. Don't be afraid to put giant spoons out there. We typically troll along shore for brown in one direction and when we get out of good water we just loop back thru laker water.
