From footage I have seen, big Kings in particular will follow and swipe at a rigger bait and turn and drift downward about 10'. I want to know where my rigs are because I want a second chance at those fish by having at least one dipsy below my deepest rigger if possible.
Geese overhead, wings cupped on a painfully slow crawl prior to landing into a 30-35 mph headwind. Where do I place my lead? Do I account for wind effect on the shot string? I put my bead ahead of some birds yesterday for what seemed like a gimme, pulled the trigger and.......not a feather. The only thing I can figure is I was not accounting for the wind effect on the shot string and I was shooting behind. Normally I swing thru birds but with the slow crawl on the birds I missed I was able to actually locate my bead and aim.
Count me in for one who wants to know how deep my gear is running for reproducibility. There are sometimes "hot zones" that fish are biting in that I want to match. For example, If I pop a fish on a rigger down 20'.......I will make sure I have a dipsy and/or a leadcore out to cover the same depth away from the boat.
Some boats use outriggers to move dipsys out wider using Aftco roller releases. During roll-overs when the fish are up high or trolling J-plugs off piers in the fall they can come in handy. I have no use for them.
After handling a new model Browning A-5 and thinking what a piece of junk, I walked over to the used gun side and bought a Belgian-made Browning A-5 with a date stamp from 1957. I have always wanted an A-5 so I was stoked to find one in mint condition. So here is the problem.....I am reading that I should not shoot steel shot thru the modified barrel. The other problem....its 2 3/4" so finding non-toxic loads like hevi-shot are not easy to come by in that length shell. Questions I have are which are a better brand Hevi-shot vs Kent Tungston matrix? If I only shoot waterfowl 2 or 3 times a year, could I just shoot steel shot without worry about damage?
So I am sort of getting back into duck/goose hunting after a long hiatus (25 years). I have noticed ducks and more-so Geese will circle just out of range of a spread. Question....would it be legal to find a tree and use a climber to get up off the ground to close the gap?......might be fun.
You need to have a transom plate or in the very least large fender washer support with a lock nut to hold. My guess is when you tried to go to a larger bolt, the nut fell off the bolt. DO NOT USE SCREWS TO SUPPORT ANYTHING WITH FIBERGLASS......everything should be bolted if there is any load on the item.
You could find rental cottages in Hanover Bay on the Cattaurgus. It has restaurants, bars and beaches. Fishing includes bass in the shallows off the beach club, perch beds out in 40-60' out front, and walleye esp. starting in July.
It is very easy to blow out deer on your 50 acres if wind direction/ entry and exit points are not planned correctly. There is more to attracting deer than just planting food plots as it doesn't take deer long to take a walk and visit them during nocturnal hours from neighboring areas if they know you are there. Hinge-cutting some bedding areas away from entry/exit points would help. Also, I think if you have a neighboring fruit farmer who is having trouble with deer I would be knocking on his door to gain permission.
Hook up is better because you can use a bigger hook. As with hooking and landing kings you will find stock hooks don't hold up. To balance the bait using only one hook on the rear, you can add additional split rings or cotter pins or trebles with the hook points removed on the front hook locations.
Right.....I am saying I am agreeing with their usage of the term "reasonable" in the spirit of the law as it pertains to the boater needs to make a reasonable effort to remove cling-ons. I do that now anyway.
There is no way to drain large ocean-going vessels ballast water completely or sanitize it. Legal wording to the effect of "reasonable" attempt to remove plant matter from the boat before transporting should be used. I am picturing my boat as it comes out of Olcott harbor coated with Duck Weed.......no way to get all that stuff off underneath the carpet bunks and boat bottom interface. A pipe dream.
