I suck. -
Right...you don't want to deal with the results of taking a little blue pill while in a kayak....it may change the balance of the vessel.

Nix the flashers and run spoons right now if you want numbers. -

2nd leg of Pro/Am going on so you probably will not see many reports. East winds in June typically make fishing tough and me chase walleye on Erie. Best advise would be to check the NOAA charts and follow the warm water. -

X2. If I wanted to fill my boat with fish in June I would run as many leadcore as possible esp. if you go offshore. -

Tough task for a redass Paul . I don't envy your position. -
You need 1000' of wire. If your dipsy is out 300' late summer you need 500' of back up in case you get a big one. With you new to wire consider getting torpedo 19 strand at the Slippery Sinker as it is more user friendly. Also, Wes has twilli tips for your rod. Gently flame the stock tip with a lighter until you feel the epoxy loosen. Pull off the tip and clean the rod surface. Heat up rod epoxy stick and apply to the tip, slide the twilli tip on. Have your dad hold the spool of wire with a stick thru the spool as a spindle and using oven mitts apply tension to the spool. Wind the wire on tight. After all the wire is on the reel tie on a heavy swivel (use a spin doc swivel). Go down to the school and tie off on a chain link fence and walk all the wire off the reel. With the rod tight walk and reel all the wire back onto the reel as this step will lay the wire perfectly back onto the spool. You are ready to catch a hog. Check out the LOTSA site or Captain Ernie's Fish Doctor web page on how to tie a wire knot.

I like the Sodus format Rod. For me it is a destination tournament that makes it tough. Some day when the kids have their drivers license and can tow themselves around I can get away for three days. See you at the Healing Waters event. -

The number of entrants seems low. I for one would like to see the AM division come back. If the committee wants to allow teams to get experience and gain confidence with the end game of joining the pro ranks then have the same rules as the pros. Starting at any port at any time after 12:01 with a three fish limit and no observer is NOTHING like the pro division. Have an am division with a 12 fish limit and same start and finish time is more of a proving ground. Bring back the prestige of the am division! -
Not as you would think. Somebody caught on underwater camera that a sliding cheater will eventually end up about 4' above the main line release. It takes awhile to get there and you can follow it down on your fishfinder. The less tension on the rod or heavier main line will effect a greater bow in the line due to drag and the cheater will be more likely to hang out there.

Try this visual and see if it helps. Spoon with a snap with a leader to a barrel 7' away. Deploy that spoon however far back from the ball you want. Clip line into release (blacks). Send down the line 8' down and stop your rigger. Now place your cheater on the main line and fix it to the downrigger cable ( for this I use an OR-16 release on the cable and a rubber band to connect to the cheater release. Now send them down to the desired depth. Your rod will fire twice as there are two release points. Much better hook-up ratio compared to a free slider esp. when getting into steelhead or coho that like to head straight up and jump. The red swivel snap is the cheater swivel (minus the mono cheater leader). The mail line runs thru the cheater swivel.

Because I "leader down", my main line has a ball bearing barrel swivel 7' above a duolock snap/lure so the slider will slide down and hang on the barrel and not reach the lure. This has allowed me to cheat a spoon above a flasher. There are little nuances to keep them from getting together. For example, when raising your downriggerball up, catch the cheater with a boat hook before it runs all the way down. I usually fix my cheaters so I can move my riggers up and down and not worry about getting the two baits together, but if you are running sliders, you really want to start your riggers high and only move them down if needed. Moving a rigger up with a free slider will get the two baits closer than I want.
