  1. Larry PM sent.
  2. Why aren't you guys launching at the free launch in Youngstown?
  3. Yodamage, with all due respect how is it going to make sense economically? The return in investment on the Pacific species pays for itself many times over in economic stimulus.
  4. I usually run only one diver per side off the otters. Usually I run the a "size 1" dipsy or deeper diver off the boards as with a "V" pattern the outside lines are the shallowest and furthest back.
  5. I bought my boat because of the Pacific species in Lake Ontario. Without them.....I would sell it. My guess is you would lose 3/4 of the charter business as well. Atlantics are never going to make it and Lake Trout in Lake Ontario are not fit for human consumption. I would love to pick the brain of some of our biologists to find out just what their vision of the future looks like.
  6. Anyone know if this is a glow blank similar to the spoon?
  7. If you have your otters set up with the second 1/2 keel they will pull them no problem. I run a aftco roller release at a fixed position on my planer board line to hold them. Put dipsy in water a couple of feet below the surface. Using 30lb fireline braid I then place the line into the release and close it. Loosen your planer reel and thumb the spool on your fishing reel as you send the board out. Once the board is where you want it, zero your line counter and send the diver back as far as you want it. To remove the line from the release, it takes a sharp snap of the rod towards the back of the boat and the release will disengage (that is why you use braid and not wire). Sometimes the fish will pull the release open, sometimes you have to draw tight to the fish and release the line yourself. Once you master this concept you will soon see you don't need copper anymore as you will achieve true adjustability of depth as if your diver line was hung off the side. You can create a true "V" pattern with 6 divers and never have to worry about tangles on turns.
  8. If you are following what is going on Spoonpullers.com......some scary crap about to go down with the Canadians potentially getting out of the Pacific game. Oops Brian you beat me to it by a couple of seconds
  9. The ones you have are they used or new?
  10. Luckily we had enjoyed unusually warm summers most of this decade to "fill the food-web" prior to this cold winter. At the same time we have had warm fall temps with low rainfall. To count on natural reproduction numbers with poor spawning conditions is a little crazy. Everyone can agree that the bait is going to be in the west end of the lake this time of year so it may give a false sense on how much bait is out there lakewide. However, everything is relative. If Capt. Vince says there is more bait on the west end then he has seen in a long time....then take his word for it as he is on the water more than anyone. Where is the Koho research vessel now? To get an accurate picture of bait numbers lakewide (assuming all the bait is west of Rochester), would it be easiest to take bait level reading right now on the west end of the lake? Perhaps what is needed is a less stringent hard cap number on the amount of Kings stocked year-to-year. More active management. Warm years with good production......put more kings in to control bait numbers. After cold hard back-to-back winters.....stock less.
  11. Billy, how have these mounts performed for you? Was thinking about upgrading to these from my older lexan swivel bases.
  12. A little birdy told me Kings are starting to snap. Will be out in morning.
  13. Agreed that a sterile mature pine forest would not support huge numbers. However, I used hunt elk above tree-line in Colorado where they could subsist on lichen. Give 'em a chance....either they are going to make it or they won't. Only one way to find out.
  14. I use the inexpensive, almost indistructible Ugly Stick one piece bigwater boat rods.
  15. http://www.scdemocratonline.com/archives/2001/news/03March/16/elk.html Not sure if it is stuck in mud or redtape. Local RMEF representative is Tim Foster [email protected] I sent him an email asking for an update on any plans. Found this discussion http://www.adkforum.com/showthread.php?t=7751
  16. Yes, you have to quarter them. Of the two cow elk I shot while living in Colorado I can attest that one rear elk quarter is all one person can handle at a time.
  17. Been seeing hunting shows in Kentucky where early 90's they placed 1,000 Elk to restore a population that has been missing since the late 1800's. The population is now 10,000 strong with a lottery hunting system in place. With the Adirondak Park towns looking more like boarded up ghost towns, I thought it would be an ideal place to reintroduce Elk. Has anyone involved in hunting groups been involved with the discussion to return elk to our great state? Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc. have herds now....just wondering why we are being left out.
  18. Poor mans' short leadcore....with less hassle. As stated this technique has been around forever. In the eighties the usage of different weighted rubber-core sinkers ahead of a bait was standard practice in the spring and early summer. This method will never go out of style.
  19. Welcome to our lake and thanks for the report. Please bring Capt. Chumura back with you next time as we need someone to show me how to catch those deep winter pattern kings.....I can't catch them for the life of me!!!!
  20. Reads like the headliners at the local karaoke bar.......a bunch of zeros.
  21. I remember the first WHI and the horrible fishing that day. That all day sinking feeling of not watching rods move and wondering what the rest of the fleet was doing. The stress knowing ONE FRIGGIN' good fish could put you in the money. That is why its called fishing and not catching.
  22. Kingfish won. Sounds like there was not much catching going on.
  23. Brian I can say without hesitation there is no problem with the bait levels. Just got in from a frustrating day fishing off Olcott/Wilson. The bait has come in to the 200' levels in large numbers.....just wish there were hooks around it!!!
  24. They are finally running the upper river for those who are looking to salt some minnows for Perch season.
