Sold / Closed Penn Yan 255 Intruder

Wow you have spent some time cleaning her up! Great shape.
  2. This is not new news. I think it is among the top 20 most polluted waterways in the US. Believe me it will not stop people from fishing it OR keeping fish from it. By the way, the rocks in the Niagara Gorge are supposedly too toxic to touch as well.
  3. I think everybody has covered all the bases. Start with a decade of super warm tribs with low water come fall spawning time reducing natural reproduction. Add into the equation a record cold winter changing the current dynamics in the lake (those old GPS coordinates were not hitting this year). Throw in a possibility of BKD from eating Gizzard Shad the past two springs. Lower number of fish stocked due to conditions at the hatchery. Perhaps greater Lake Trout predation on immature Kings. Perhaps the harvest of two year old Kings last year lakewide was high? Does it really matter why? For me what matters is the DEC lake managers interpreting the data have the ability to adjust stocking numbers year-to-year instead of every five years. There will always be a flood or a drought or a cold winter.......so the current agreement being constructed with the Canadian MNR should include more flexibility in stocking numbers IMO.
  4. If you are fraying near the termination it may have been from your dipsy rocking around during travel.
  5. Yes I am kidding (sort of) I would like them to strip only late October and November-run fish to make the run later when water temps are better. I like the science stuff but I have a healthy dose of common sense. I never liked the idea of the nose tagging/ fin clipping machine. Ask a 5 year old if it would be a good idea to shove something into the nose of a fish, then clip off a fin before letting baby salmon go. The resource is too valuable to be jerking around. Glad the program is done. I look forward to the LOLA survey results as well. Interesting stuff happening to the food chain. Good reason to give lake managers more flexibility to determine stocking figures on a year-to-year basis to adapt to changing environment.
  6. Same. Last time out on my boat was first week in June! The honey-do list seems more important when the fishing is off for Kings. If the state has ever had a whiff of wanting to stop King stocking for money reasons the ROI should be checked comparing sales tax revenues from years previous against this year. Think of all the gas stations, mini-marts, Tim Hortons, thruway fares, launch fares, charter business, tackle business etc. etc. Tackle sales down.....house paint sales up! Kings drive the Lake O business. Maybe they should be pushing the Atlantics out of the fish collecting wier and servicing the Kings!
  7. That is typical. The "lighter" warmer water gets moved into the east end of the lake and piles up there before heading down the St. Lawrence River or recirculated around the North shore. There was a roll-over on the West end yesterday so lots of cold water around.
  8. Yes but only as "general" indicators. I have a probe but I would not leave the dock without checking that page. The page tells me what is going on lake-wide. The information gleamed tells me if I am going shallow, deep, left or right out of port. If I see cold water off Olcott, I will trailer to the Niagara. Invaluable information. Remember the depths given are in meters!
  9. "I let my divers out", "hit them on the head with your cannon ball", " I had another hit-and-run", " long live the King!".......stuff like that.
  10. Will keep radio chatter about my rocket launchers down to a minimum. Thanks.
  11. Fleas are not filter feeders. They are predators that feed on other zooplankton.
  12. Looked like some nice Coho in the mix also
  13. NE winds typically suck for Lake O fishing so I was contemplating fishing Erie Sunday. Does the walleye bite shut down on Erie with East or NE winds similar to Ontario?
  14. The only other thing that might contribute to the "lost year class" theory was the presence of VHS in Gizzard Shad collections from last year's die off in the spring. No proof of VHS in Kings on Lake O, but one could extrapolate if Gizzard Shad are carrying VHS and Kings feed on Gizzard Shad, then Kings might come in contact with VHS. I choose not to believe this one but it is conceivable.
  15. Seriously, what is the Niagara doing? Currents are all FUBAR'd this year.
  16. A little on the stocking.... a lot on the weather. The numerous east wind days on Ontario and the cool basement layers from the cold winter have combined to change the normal cycle we have enjoyed in past years. You need to only look at the Niagara plume how it has been blowing out the top instead of staying tight to the shoreline. The result is cooler water is allowed to push into the near-shore areas. For every action there is a reaction. The Niagara is pushing out in a NE direction and the result is a backfill of cool water along the shore. We need to have sustained SW or W winds to correct this. All season the daily wind direction has been from seemingly different directions. There is a greater toilet bowl effect going on with most of the lighter warm water offshore on the West end from the spinning winds. Majors are probably out there but spread out all over the offshore areas as they never really had to leave their winter pattern. Instead of moving inshore to green water in May, the green water came to them. No reason to leave. My theory could be a huge pile of crap also and yes every king I have caught was LOADED with alewives, so much so that the porkers are not pulling drag as much as they usually do. I have been surprised a few times when I swear I had a Lake Trout on the line only to find a FAT Coho or Steelhead that was too stuffed to scrap.
  17. Teeth marks from the Oswego shark
  18. Please PM if you have information. Looking to replace my cracked port-side swim platform segment. Thanks.
  19. Any mixed veggies pattern, orange ice glow and blue mahi glow northport nailers in 3.25" size. Sometimes they like a slow blank like an evil eye especially when they come off their spawn in June and are lethargic. Deeper into summer blue and silver patterns start working also. There are some discontinued dreamweaver SS orange spoons in the discontinued section on the dreamweaver site for $3.00
  20. Gentlemen, from what I can tell from monitoring the water from afar and my limited time on the water is that yes some challenges have occurred finding a "regular" King bite on the south shore compared to other years. A lot of intel can be gleamed by looking at the Modis satellite image of Lake O and how the Niagara plume is shaped. Most years it blows off the bar/drop off area then curls back running along the south shore, tapering tighter to the bank as you go East toward Oak Orchard. Due to the weather, wind, cool temps, changing wind directions daily, etc etc. the Niagara plume since May has been blowing out the top of bar most days heading out in a NE direction. The "usual" nice productive green mid-waters from 100'-225' FOW are not getting the Niagara goodies. Instead the "no-man's land" waters in the 300'-400' have had the green water and the fish. This is a vast area so fish are scattered. Given the time of year, I would not rule out the inside water with all the bait present either but it has been hit or miss with lots of cleaning weeds off lures in there. Good luck....looks like more East winds in forecast.
  21. Nice jump in size. Amazing what letting those 3.5 year olds go to year 4 will do for antler and body size. Good luck.
  22. Perfect.
